+Should really view this on black+ Let me be the first to say it—I may have gone a little overboard on this one—but who knows. I’ve been lost in my dark processing world for weeks with this one…I surrender. Every time I look at it, I end up tweaking the color balance, tones, contrast, on and on… I can’t escape it… I fear I’ve stared this one down to the point of no return. Too dark—probably. Over-baked—most-likely. color balance off—sure.

But what I was trying to capture here—and what initially started me off down this endless path—was my personal experience here at this incredibly unique and beautiful waterfall. Perched alone on this edge, in the dark afterglow, standing in the water, with it flowing all around me was a surreal experience I will never forget and a personal highlight for me on my trip. I guess that’s why I went with the more surreal look. I felt like this composition in combination with the sky light captured some of the magic of amazing place. And I feel the longer you stare at it the more details come out and the tones balance out more. Aside from trying not to fall in, the main difficulties here were getting the right shutter speed, focal length and dealing with no light really hitting the falls at all. In post, balancing out the warm tones with the cool tones and the ferociously blue water and intensely warm sky was rough.

This was taken on Saturday, June 21—summer solstice—when the sun bounces off the horizon, never setting. Was taken after midnight and the glow in the sky was just gorgeous—like I had never seen before. Had been raining all day and I came back at night for some long exposure action. All the moisture and mist in the air allowed for the most interesting, even, saturated glow across the sky right when the sun ducked below the cloud layer for a short time.

How to Make Your Own Pesto Plus

Among the many gifts that Italy has bestowed upon the world, culinary and otherwise, pesto stands alone. The exact birthplace of pesto, that herby sauce made of pine nuts and olive oil, is an area of Italy called Liguria, whose microclimate is particularly kind to basil, one pesto’s key ingredients.

What we love most about pesto is how easy it is to make. It’s a rare “no-cook” sauce that you can blend with a mortar and pestle or make in a food processor. Its ingredients are simple: basil, pine nuts, garlic, olive oil, and aged Italian cheese, usually Parmesan.

How to Turn YouTube into a Free Music Streaming Service

When streaming services like Spotify or Pandora compete for customers, the main differentiating factor is the size of their libraries. While these and comparable services usually run somewhere around $10 per month, a completely free alternative may actually have the most expansive library out there.

I’m talking about YouTube here, of course. With content from media companies like BMG and VEVO as well as user uploads, YouTube boasts one of the largest music collections on the planet. But if you’ve ever tried to use Google’s video sharing site to stream music, you already know where the lone… more

**Morning Star**

We stopped in at one of my favorite Tahoe beaches at about 5am yesterday. The sun’s light was just coming over the horizon when I shot this. I really like the contrast of the left side representing light lead by the “morning star” (aka Venus) and the right side representing darkness with the Milky Way smack dab in the middle. Kind of like the yin and yang of life. Without darkness there would be no such thing as light and without light there would be no such thing as darkness. Two sides of the same coin. Such is life.

Windows 10 Will Be a Free Upgrade with “Windows Holographic” on the Horizon

Microsoft dropped a couple of huge bombs at their Windows 10 event Wednesday afternoon. Free operating systems and holographic glasses? This must be a Sci-Fi novel or a Hollywood blockbuster, because it reeks of fiction.

As it turns out, we are indeed living in a world where Microsoft plans to offer free Windows 10 upgrades to existing Windows users, and a set of augmented-reality glasses will actually be debuted by the Redmond-based company soon enough.
