So! This photos looks like daylight, right!? But in fact, it was taken at 4:20am!
After a rained out sunset and some very frustrated photographers, we had booked a heli flight to Coromandel Peak (not quite Roys Peak height but just as spectacular) for sunrise, but the howling winds and rain from the night before meant that the heli company were doubtful they could take us.
Faced with a 2 hour hike to get up there instead, we were awake at 2:30am, walked outside to find the rain had stopped and the wind had almost died!! But there was no going back to sleep for us! I had seen this beautiful tree for the first time the day before, but alas, she was shrouded in grey and choppy water, not quite the ideal photo opportunity of this – the photographers ‘holy grail’ But at moonlight with a sky full of stars, she was a sight to behold!!
