Scarlet Mormon or Swallowtail (Papilio rumanzovia) is a stunning creature. The name (Mormon) apparently relates to the butterfly’s polygamy mating practices (male has three “wives”). Although also referred to as swallowtails, they do not actually have a tail on the hind wing. So interesting to see the small hanging pupa from which they emerge. What a wonderful transformation.
