Also called ostrich plume, red ginger (Alpinia purpurata) sports such brightly colored red bracts that glisten in the tropical heat. Although the red bracts look like the bloom, the actual flower is a showy white flower on the end (not pictured here). This was taken in a butterfly farm and I was as taken by the luscious tropical flowers as with the magical butterflies!
