Under the winter mily way by herbraab An amateur astronomer is obesrving the night sky with his 20″ Dobsonian reflector at the Krippenstein, 2070 meters above sea level, in the world heritage region Hallstatt-Dachstein, Austria.
The winter milky way spans across the image, passing trough the constellations Perseus, Auriga, Taurus (including the Hyades and Pleiades clusters), Gemini, Orion, Canis major and Canis minor (from upper right to lower left). Some fog makes the stars at lower altitudes disappear. At far right, the Dachstein glacier is visible at the horizon.
Single 30 second exposure, taken with a Canon EOS 550D at ISO 3200, 10 mm fisheye lens, f/2.8. Tracked at half sidereal speed using the Vixen Polarie star tracker. http://flic.kr/p/zHd9tR
