Halong Bay by martinbagg55 by martinbagg55

Halong Bay is a World Heritage Site made up of over 200 islands rising from The Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam. The islands are limestone karsts formed through erosion. The local legend claims they were formed when a dragon flew from the mountains to challenge invaders. As it flew out to sea it’s tail gouged out the land. When it plunged into the sea the water then filled the gouges. Not an easy place to photograph on holiday. You are on a moving boat and the mist never seems to lift!
