Shravanabelagola is a small city in the Indian state of Karnataka between Hassan and Bangalore. Shravanabelagola has two hills, Chandragiri and Vindhyagiri which are both important pilgrimage destinations in Jainism. On the top of the Vindyagiri hill there is a colossal white statue of Gommateshvara Bahubali. It is 17m (58 feet) high and it is considered to be the world’s largest monolithic stone statue. It has been constructed in 981 AD. Every twelve years there is a spectacular ceremony and thousands of devoted Jains will bring rice, sugar cane, sandalwood, saffron, flowers, … I created this photo by blending two exposures.
