Banteay Srei is an exquisite small temple complex from the 10th century, dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva. It is also called ‘Pavilion of the Women’ for the small scale of its size and beautiful carvings of such detail that they may have been carved by the small hands of women. It is built of red sandstone, a material that can be carved into elaborate decorations, and the carvings at Banteay Srei are said to be some of the finest stone carving anywhere on earth. This view shows the mandapa (entrance hall to the main sanctuary).
