SHELLFISH BANKS… by magdaindigo by magdaindigo

Tour of Europe 04 2016
Day 10
Over the Locks of Haringvliet, we leave the mainland of South Holland and get onto the delta island of Goeree-Overflakkee, the southernmost of the province of South Holland in the Netherlands.
I spot these nettings, and , yes, this is another drive-by shot!
We ARE back on the road!
Shellfish reefs are almost disappeared from the North Sea, while in places with shellfish beds natural wealth is twice as high as in places without shellfish banks.
Shellfish are food for fish and birds. They provide shelter and serve as a rest area and breeding ground for small and large invertebrates. Give guidance to underwater plants, filtering seawater cleaner and contribute to coastal protection.
The presence of shellfish banks there is more to enjoy under and above water for people and nature.
The World Wildlife Fund and the flag of the Dream Fund are working on the project for the return of shellfish beds in the Delta.
It seems to me, that over the years we have damaged so many things, some irreversible, some ahhhh well, we try try to restore, at great cost.
In my life, I think long and hard before I make big decisions! Damage control!
