Built in 1979, the collection documents the history of Bauhaus in art, teaching, architecture and design, and its Archive, Museum of Design, contains sculptures, ceramics, furniture and architectural models by Lyonel Feininger, Johannes Itten, Walter Gropius, Moholy-Nagy, Klee, Kandinsky and many others who fled Germany, during the second world war.
