GRAFT has designed a new residential complex, called WAVE, on a former harbor along the Spree River in Berlin, Germany. Drawing inspiration from the waterfront site, the two L-shaped buildings are situated parallel to the river and facing one another, creating an inner courtyard and providing units with views of the river and “The Molecule Men,” the iconic sculpture by artist Jonathan Borofsky.

The sculptural expression of the facade references the flowing motion of water movements, and is created by projecting balconies and oriel windows beyond the building envelope. Along the waterfront, the architects opted to give the facade maximum glazing, giving the elevation an aesthetic of simplicity and the warmth of the southern sun.

Inside the volumes, apartment types of several shapes and sizes allow for a mixture of potential tenants, ranging from 1.5 room apartments of 27 square meters to 156 square meters units featuring five rooms. A mezzanine level offers apartments with private gardens, and on the top floor, penthouses measuring between 206 to 296 square meters feature private access to a roof garden. Most of the units have a balcony or oriel window to provide views to the water.

The “fifth surface” of the facade will made up of the rooftop containing gardens and lounge space. Together with the lush courtyard in the community center, the buildings will become a place of natural respite and a green oasis in the city.

The building is slated to be completed in 2018.

Here’s How to Get Creativity Bursting Out of Your Eyeballs

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

You don’t need me to tell you how important creativity is. Suffice to say that if you want to compete in the modern workforce you can’t afford to be robotic. People who think like robots are being replaced by… robots. Fortunately, I’m a creative genius and I’m here to teach you to be more like me.

Commence the listicle!

1 – Unleash the Awesome Power of Boredom

1992, summer. 24 years before Pokemon Go put the final nail in boredom’s coffin. I’m in the back garden trying to find something fun to do with my brother. We’ve played soccer and tennis for hours. The magic is gone.

‘This is so boring…’ he laments, thrashing a daisy with a twig.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

He’s not wrong. ‘Have we still got that swing tennis set?

//c.amazon-adsystem.com/aax2/getads.js

//<![CDATA[
aax_getad_mpb({
"slot_uuid":"16dcbcd0-2124-4a85-9abe-c263dd9084e5"
});
//]]>

Swing tennis? That’s so last year.’

He was right again – swing tennis was as out of style as ’The Bartman’. We needed something fresh, something that fit the 1992 gestalt. I sighed and looked around.

For some reason there was a mattress behind the trashcan. ‘What if…’ I said slowly, ‘we propped that up against the wall… Use this trashcan lid as a shield… Right, you try and hit the mattress with the ball and I’ll defend it.’

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

‘The soccer ball or the tennis ball?’

‘Oh, definitely both at the same time.’

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

‘How do we know I’ve hit the mattress?’

’When this frisbee falls off.’

And that’s how we created Ultraball 3000, the best sport ever. It gave us many, many hours of fun.

There’s something magical that can happen when you stop shoving input into your brain. Recent research shows that boredom stimulates creative centers in the brain, lets people make new connections, and promotes creative output.

But how often are we truly bored any more?

There are more than 600,000 games in the Apple Store available to play any time, day or night. From anywhere in the world, you can call up the complete works of Arthur Conan Doyle, learn Spanish, or stalk your ex-boyfriend. There’s a reason Archimedes had his Eureka moment in the bath – he had nothing to do except sit and soak, and his brain was free to roam. And there’s a reason the subreddit where people share interesting ideas they’ve had is called ‘shower thoughts’ – because the shower is one of the only places kids these days don’t bring their phone.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

So if you want to get more creative, you’ve got to get away from your smartphone. Hide it in a drawer and get yourself so bored it hurts.

2 – Annihilate Your Inner Critic by Joining Nanowrimo

nanowrimo

Worry about what people think of your ideas?

Ptsch! When’s the last time THEY had a good idea? These are the people who rejected Harry Potter, said the iPhone would never take off, and passed on The Beatles.

So the only critic you should really take any notice of is YOU. You’re a perfectionist who never finishes anything because what you’ve done doesn’t match your expectations. Your hard drive is bursting with unfinished projects. Your brain shoots down ideas before you’ve even finished having them.

That’s why you should sign up to the National Novel Writing Month. You have to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Think about that for a second. 50,000 words.

See Also: 10 Great Books that Will Boost Your Creativity

You have NO time to edit. NO time to listen to your doubts. You HAVE to press ahead.

And what happens? First, you finish something. That’s important enough.

But also, you realise those doubting voices in your head are much less present. You’re much more likely to act on your ideas, whether good or bad. And you find that some of your bad ones aren’t so bad after all…

3 – Stay Silly

Have you ever noticed that kids are way more creative than adults? You’ve probably heard a child explaining some mental drawing they’ve just scrawled. ‘This is the wizard and those are cabbages and he’s got a cat which is also the moon.’ Don’t worry – that kid will have every spark of creativity snuffed out and stamped on by their parents, teachers, and the rest of society soon enough.

But you can learn from those little tykes! Risk-taking, silliness, and playfulness come second nature to children, and that’s why they have no problem being creative.

Create a throwaway Reddit account and join the joke-telling and story-writing subreddits. Think up some awful puns, post some late-night Harry Potter fan fiction. Get weird with it! It’s just an outlet for you to get in touch with your inner child, so don’t worry about what reception you’ll get.

4 – Enjoy the Process, Not the Outcome

Getting hung up on how many words you’ve written or how much people like your writing/jokes/business ideas is a sure way to stop your creative synapses firing. When I had some writing homework in school, I’d get a couple of cookies, lie on the floor kicking my legs, and write. The cookies made sure I was in a good frame of mind.

When I was a bit older and had ‘outgrown’ cookies, I sat at my desk feeling serious and wrote serious things in a serious way. And writing became agony and I learned to hate it.

Fortunately one of those ‘circle of life’ things happened and now I’m back to working while surrounded by treats (but not too much! See section 5). If this post gets 5 Facebook shares or 1.2 million LinkedIn views I’ll be equally content. Because as soon as I’ve finished typing this last sentence I’m going to sit in my massage chair and eat cheesecake.

5- Mindful Eating

mindful eating

Pizza, ice cream, cheesecake and tons of coffee. All wonderful stuff while you’re masticating but you know what happens after. You get drowsy, foggy, and turn right into a hibernating panda. Bad food does that to us.

In contrast, healthy food choices are guaranteed to keep you more awake and bursting with energy and ideas. Apart from the usual diet of protein, complex carbohydrates, and essential fatty acids, try superfoods like maca, ginseng, bee pollen, coconut oil, and green tea.

If you can’t get to these in their raw form, you can try adding them into your daily intake via food supplements. For when you need a short burst of focus and concentration (like before an exam or a big presentation), you could try a smart drug. There’s more info on this fast-growing industry in my bio.

Right, pep talk over. You know everything you need to know. Get to it!

From the architect. The project involves the organization of an apartment located in the attic of a newly built building with 5 floors. The attic space was to become an extension of the apartment located on the lower floor, which was no longer suitable to host family who over the years had passed from 2 to 4 people.

The design of the furnishings identifies the hierarchies of the domestic space, defining the ritual moments of living. The detail of the elements defines the interior space, making recognizable the dwelling places that are put together by a visual relationship, which makes the space dinamic and at the same time hierarchized.

Following the success of last year’s virtual tour of Selgascano’s 2015 Serpentine Pavilion, Photographer Nikhilesh Haval of nikreations has shared with us his virtual tour of BIG’s 2016 Pavilion entry. Hosted this year on Google Street View, the tour allows you to move through and around the “unzipped wall” design, giving you the ability to perceive how sunlight interacts with the structure. Check out how visitors are using the pavilion as an escape from the sunny park or sipping on drinks ordered at the pavilion bar – and don’t forget to look up, where it’s easy to get lost in the sea of interlocking fiberglass bricks.

5 Signs from Your Angels You Should Never Ignore (and Why)

Angels are our guardians and guides. They are divine spiritual beings of love and light that work with humanity to help us in this lifetime. Guardian angels are unique to each person; we each have our own team. For some people this may be one angel, for others it may be many; and you can always ask for more if you feel the need. The Angels respect your free will and won’t directly interfere in your life unless asked, or, if your life is in danger before your time. When you ask for guidance, your angels will communicate through your intuitive feelings and a variety of other ways. When you are uncertain about a decision, you can always ask them for a sign to confirm your feelings. Signs from the angels help us feel a direct connection, enhancing our intuition and giving us the confidence to move forward.

Through signs, the Angels also guide us in subtle ways all the time, especially when they want to get our attention. Your angels know your heart’s desires, your dreams, your true feelings, your fears, your flaws, your strengths and your weaknesses. Your Angels know the real you; as a soul and as a human being. Through this unique connection, along with the energy of their unconditional love, your angels understand you in a very deep and meaningful way; they know what you truly want, what is truly best for you and how to guide you to create it. Your angels give you guidance, inspiration and ideas to help you create your dreams. If you ask, they will conspire on your behalf in miraculous ways; putting you on the minds of people who can help you, plus so much more.

AngelThere are so many ways the Angels give use signs and many of them are completely unique to the individual person and what is needed at that time. When the Angels want to get your attention, to warn you or remind you of something important, there are some common ways they get our attention. Here are 5 signs from your angels you should not ignore (and why):

1. Ringing in your ears.

Ringing type sounds (the tone and variety is different for each person) in your ears are a very common way the Angels reach out to us. The meaning can be for reassurance, letting you know your angels are near and available to comfort and help you. It is also a sign of confirmation; whatever you are saying or thinking at the moment of an intense ringing, where you might even feel some pressure in your ear, is something important. In this case, your angels are asking you to pay attention, you are on the right track with your intuition.

2. The number 11.

Numbers are a universal language and the Angels use them to communicate. Repetitive number sequences have a message, depending on the number you are seeing. There are many books on the topic, “Angel Numbers” by Doreen Virtue is a great place to start. The number 11 in particular is a sign with multiple meanings, and one the Angels send over and over when they need to get a point across. 11 is an awakening. Your angels are imploring you to “wake up” either spiritually or to a truth you are hesitant to face, but know is true (like a relationship you need to end). 11 is also a reminder to be mindful. Pay attention to your thoughts and words, you are creating your reality.

3. Feathers.

Finding a random feather is a clear sign from your guardian angel to have faith. It is a reassurance that all will be well and you are not alone. It’s a reminder to ask your angels for help and guidance and not to struggle alone over a problem.

4. Hawks.

A hawk is a symbol of intuition. Angels will send hawks as a sign to follow your instincts because your intuition at the time is absolutely correct; even though your point of view might differ from others. A hawk is a powerful sign to not ignore what you know is right, it is a warning to avoid future problems.

5. Solar Plexus.

Sensations.

Your Solar Plexus chakra (located a couple inches above your belly button) is very sensitive to energy; it’s why your intuition is also called “gut instincts”. Your angels send sensations to this area to warn you when something is just not quite right. This can feel like nausea, tightening, butterflies,and even slight discomfort. Don’t ignore these feelings, pay attention to what is happening when they occur. For example, if you feel nauseated every time you are around a certain person, that is a sign that something is off and you need to be aware and act accordingly (like avoid being alone with this person).

These 5 signs are important aspects of Angel communication. The more you follow their signs, the stronger your own intuitive senses become. You can always ask your angels for more guidance about any sign; they will bring you the information you need in a manner that is meaningful to you.

There are many books about angel communication that offer further details and information about angels, I recommend those by Doreen Virtue. Having an Intuitive Angel Reading is also an excellent way to better understand the messages, signs and symbols from your Angels; often confirming what you already know. Becoming more open to these signs will create more peace in your life; every time you experience one you will feel the loving presence of your angels and will continue increasing your awareness.
