Get the LG G3’s Lock & Unlock Sounds on Your Nexus Device

When my Nexus 5 received the Lollipop update, one of the first things I noticed was how subtle and quiet the new lock and unlock sounds were. Sure, this is a minor quibble, but it’s also an easy fix.

So I put together a flashable ZIP with the (in my opinion) much cooler lock and unlock sounds from the LG G3. These sounds are a lot more audible, and somehow even seem to fit the overall look and feel of Android 5.0’s new user interface.

How to Get Back Avatars in Chrome to Switch User Profiles More Easily

A recent update to Google Chrome replaced the colored avatar menu in the top-left (Windows) or top-right (Mac) corner of the browser that let you easily switch from profile to profile with a plain gray button that simply names what profile you’re in.

I use different user profiles to manage my work and personal life in Chrome, and I had gotten very used to looking at the color and shape of the avatar picture as a means of quickly identifying what profile I’m in. Plus, if you want to open another profile in a new window, you could just hit the avatar and select another profile.
The old profile… more

Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop, which allows for remote access to your personal computer from your smartphone, has been out for almost a year now. How to Make a No-Bake Ice Cream Sandwich Cake in 10 Minutes

Icebox cakes are some of the most satisfying, easy desserts to put together. This version made out of ice cream sandwiches takes the cake, literally, because the layers are almost pre-made for you. Simple and pretty when cut and served, it will be love at your first creamy bite. Depending on whether you want a layer of chocolate crunchies in your ice cream sandwich cake or not, this could be either a two-ingredient ice cream cake or a four-ingredient one. If you don’t need the crunchy layer, then you can put this together in about 10 minutes; with the crunchies, it will probably take about 15… more

How to Customize Your iPhone’s Status Bar & Icon Label Colors

I’m all about customizing my iPhone and making it as different as possible from everyone else’s. While it’s easy to change the wallpaper, swap keyboards, and hide apps on your home screen, there’s not much else you can do aesthetically without jailbreaking, especially when it comes to the status bar and app icons.

If you’re jailbroken and looking to make your springboard a little more colorful, then SpringResearch from hiroshit can help. This tweak will enable you to change the background and foreground colors of the the status bar, as well as the font for app icons on the home screen.

Hack Like a Pro: Metasploit for the Aspiring Hacker, Part 5 (Msfvenom)

Welcome back, my hacker novitiates!

Eluding and evading antivirus software and intrusion detection systems is one of the most critical tasks of the hacker. As soon as a new exploit is developed and discovered, the AV and IDS developers build a signature for the attack, which is then likely to be detected and prevented.

One obvious way around this problem is to develop your own exploits, and that is what we have begun to do in our Exploit Building series. Another potential method is to change the encoding, thereby changing the signature of the exploit and/or payload.

Previously, to re-encode… more

CES 2015: Wocket Digitizes All the Cards in Your Wallet into One Single, Secure Card

As far as wallets go, mine is as full as they come; think something like George Castanza’s overstuffed wallet on Seinfeld. I’ve got receipts, pictures, and tickets jammed inside, but what takes up the bulk of the space are all of the cards—credit, debit, gift, rewards, customer loyalty… I’ve got pretty much any card you can think of squeezed in. While it is a strain on my rear end, there’s nothing I can do besides keep some of the cards elsewhere. However, looking for them when I need them is another pain in the butt that I’d rather not deal with, so I just keep them all together.

If you’ve… more

How to Get iPhone Emojis on Your Nexus 5

Emojis are a huge part of communication these days. In fact, I’m beginning to think that in a thousand years, historians will come across our then-ancient texts and speculate that we used a writing system that evolved from hieroglyphics.

As prevalent as emojis have become, it’s only right that we get to choose our icon sets. A mod that Danny covered in the past allowed you to switch between stock Android and iOS emojis, and the customization that this offered was more than welcome.

But recently, developer Jack Ronan came up with a Nexus 5-specific mod that makes it even easier to get the… more
