Tanjung Layar – Sawarna Beach by cepdanie™ Tanjung Layar, formerly Java’s Eerste Punt in Dutch, and Java’s First Point, or Java Head in English is a prominent cape at the extreme western end of Java, at the Indian Ocean entrance to the Sunda Strait. Java Head is a bluff at the sea’s edge with higher land beyond, visible from a significant distance at sea, with deep water close to the shore. Its name means “sail cape” because of the shape of a rock close to its shore.
the long view | dyrhólaey, iceland by elmofoto ==> More of my Iceland photos here.
This was taken on the last day of our short jaunt through south Iceland. We had a lot of ground to cover, but I’m glad we decided to spend a few hours exploring this really interesting peninsula just west of Vik. There’s a cool lighthouse high atop the large rock formation (you can drive up it – it’s huge) that makes up this peninsula. This is the view looking west from the western edge; it’s black volcanic sand as far as the eye can see. If you’re going to South Iceland I would recommend a stop here.
I hope everyone had a nice Easter and/or Passover. Happy Monday.
-Lorenzo
