My work from McDonald Lake Lodge and The American West got pinged by a design blog called “Love is Better” yesterday whose author found my stuff interesting – thanks Christi!

I also got an email from Maurice over at Photovisi alerting me to this new cool and free photo collage service. You can use the link to head over there and you can assemble your photographs into collages, just upload the ones you want and drag them around to your liking (all within the comfort of your web browser) and then you can download it as a desktop wallpaper for free. If you’re in the market for printed products, you’ll find the option to buy the same collage on any variety of media as well. You can check out a collage I made of some of my tWp photographs after the daily photo.

Last summer we took Beartooth Pass into Yellowstone National Park on the recommendation of my father in law. He told us that it was special, he told us that it was breathtaking, but he couldn’t have prepared us for how amazing this drive was. We were short on time as it was, but we couldn’t help but stop at every chance and take some photographs of the beautiful scenery. After one of the last switchbacks and near the very top of the road, the road passes this incredible alpine valley that is flanked by glaciers (diminutive though they are in the middle of summer) and cradling an incredible glacial lagoon. I stopped and took an enormous panorama of the place. Today I’m posting just a very thin sliver of this panorama for dramatic effect – I promise I’ll post the full resolution pano tomorrow. It was noon and the light was rather plain, hitting the mountain tops dotted with the shadows of a few lazy clouds. The temperature was cold and invigorating and the place was so inviting – I wanted to hop the guard rail and surf down the gravel and go explore all the meadows and glades you can see in the photograph. If you ever have the chance – get yourself through Beartooth. http://flic.kr/p/7xwY2n

White Pocket by PaulRojas This was from my recent trip with D Breezy, where we hit Valley of Fire, Toroweap, and White Pocket in a single weekend to take advantage of the monsoon conditions and catch some dramatic weather.
This shot was at White Pocket, right before an afternoon storm hit us. We were just going about our business, taking shots at a leisurely pace, when the wind suddenly picked up. It blasted my face full of sand and I knew then that I had only a few minutes before the rain fell.
I knew I wanted to take a shot from this area that I had scouted earlier, but I was standing all the way on top of the brain rock in the background, so I had to run as fast as I could to make it in time. I was unfolding my tripod on the go, and cursing out loud at the raindrops that were starting to fall. When I finally climbed up to this spot, I was completely out of breath.
I saw David out near the top of the butte in the back, and he yelled down at me something about the sun casting some serious glow on a butte to my left. I knew I was out of time by then, so I just acknowledged him, knowing that he was probably shooting another masterpiece.
Rain was falling everywhere by then, so I just dropped the tripod where I stood, composed as best as I could, took two shots, and packed up as fast as possible. The downpour hit just seconds after, and we found ourselves soaking wet and shivering under a small tree for the next hour.

The Autumn Fall colors were glorious! by swazileigh/ Langman Lightscapes view from Potwisha Bridge…

In photojournalistic style I have uploaded (15) new images in a series taken on the way into the Sequoia National Park. We stayed in nearby town Visalia and then ventured the hour into the park… the first day we only got 6 miles into the park because we stopped so much along the way to take in the scenic road up there. I could sit and take in this view for days! There is another little town to stay in called Exeter (Best Western is a good choice)… right now in March the Orange Blossoms are blooming and the scent is heavenly!! They even have an Orange Blossom festival…these photos were taken at the end of Fall in November last year when we decided to make a quick getaway to the snow at the giant Sequoia’s to make a more dramatic Christmas card this past year! 😉

So I always have to tell the story of an Adventure right??! 😉 Well, I was happily shooting pictures down those cobbled stairs into the boulders and fall colors when my husband shows back up and yells at me “Come now and don’t ask any questions!!! Run!!”…. I run up to the road across from a picnic area where our car was parked. I see 2 big brown bears 20 yards infront of me as I jump in the car….heart racing! My husband had come face to face with them walking Rockitt our pup in the picnic area… they were searching for food…. he ran for the car and moved it closer to where I was shooting the other side and then came running to “save me” 😉 Sitting in the car, I was racing to switch to my zoom lens and get my tripod up….. Door ajar, one foot out of the car, I just got the tripod and camera out and trying to get my manual settings right… about to capture the “photo of a lifetime”!!!!!! ;-)… I just got the setting right and then……………… a loud clapping and shouting comes from the rear…. the bears scatter and run off up into the hills ….. argghhhhh! Missed it!!!!
…sigh! lol!! The Ranger had showed up and scared them to get them out of the Picnic area….the thing that impressed me the most and still made my day was a couple minutes later when the Ranger came over to me to apologize for ruining my opportunity at a photo of a lifetime…. it was very nice of him to notice and recognize that but even more impressive that he made the effort to come and say something to me!!! 😉 Thank you Mr California Ranger dude!!

Have a great weekend and week everyone!! Enjoy your Spring Break R & R…. I hope you’re not a busy at work as I am right now…..I will try to catch up with your streams again soon! http://flic.kr/p/buE5wd

Bedruthan Steps 2 by Nala Rewop Please View On Black

One of the county’s more dramatic beaches. It gets it’s name from the huge slate outcrops scattered along the beach and not the inordinate number of steps you need to go down to get to the beach. It is said that the outcrops were put there by Bedruthan, a giant, and used as stepping stones.

At low tide the beach itself stretches for over a mile with plenty of interesting nooks and crannies.

As the numerous warning signs point out the cliffs are dangerous as are the tides and there is a good deal of potential to become cut off at high tide

Nearby are Carnewas cliffs owned by the National Trust with a cafe and toilets. Looking West from here you get a good view of Newquay bay. http://flic.kr/p/4YTnjb

Reflections under the hill by ….Tim Silbury Hill is situated to the north side of the A4 between Marlborough and Beckhampton in Wiltshire, UK. A car park is provided for viewing, but access to the hill is prohibited.

Silbury Hill is the largest man made mound in Europe, the second largest is Marlborough Mound just a few miles to the east in the grounds of Marlborough School. Silbury Hill is an imposing sight standing 130 feet high (about 40 meters), the base of the mound covers over 5 acres and the flattened top is around 100 feet across.

Carbon dating suggests that Silbury Hill was built around 2500 BC. Nobody really knows why it was built, local legend would have it as the burial place of King Sil (or Zil), said to buried under the mound sitting on his horse. There have been several excavations which have not found any trace of a burial.

Silbury Hill suffered a considerable amount of damage at the end of May, 2000. Heavy rains caused part of an old shaft to collapse. The shaft is about 100 feet deep and was dug in the 18th Century in an attempt to discover whether the mound contained a burial. The public have been restricted from climbing Silbury Hill for some years now, but despite the signs and the fences some people still persist. I hope that this collapse brings home to these people the potential for damaging the site and also the danger involved. Many of those who climb it claim they hold Silbury Hill as sacred. I find it strange that anyone would wish to damage something they say is sacred to them…
