Night Watch by RyanDyar

Nothing groundbreaking here, just a fairly simple scene of wildflowers and twilight looking towards Washington’s Tatoosh Range. A handful of exposures for DOF, an exposure for the stars, an exposure for the moon, hand blended together. A lot of work with balancing the textures out in different areas, a lot of dodging and burning, tonality control through some luminosity selections, etc, etc. Spent a good while working on this, then had the homies Miles Morgan and David Thompson go over with a fine tooth comb to pick up on the little things I missed. Thanks, gents.

Anyways, I recently released my fourth instructional video on my approaches to processing. People seem to really be enjoying them and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people… it’s been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. Be sure to check the videos out if you are into that sort of thing. It’s all on my website, as well as more photos, photo tour info, processing instruction via Skype like everyone else is doing, etc, etc. I’m also SUPER excited to be teaming up with Arild Heitmann to lead a tour through Norway’s Lofoten Islands to chase some some Aurora and the long hours of golden arctic light. The tour is filling up fast, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out soon! Only a couple spots left! Also have a fun tour scheduled for some snow-shooting on Mount Hood with Mark Metternich and me, check that out too! And if you love Miles Morgan as much as I do, he and I are co-leading a tour in the Northern Rockies this summer… it’s sure to be a riot!

2015 Tour Schedule
Arctic Light Workshop – With Arild Heitmann
Winter Wonderland Workshop – With Mark Metternich

Wonder by MAPhoto

Here’s one that is comparatively a little more direct in approach than my recent posts. I loved the big mountain clearing out of the clouds and the way the blue skies and fall colors worked together. Simple as that.

The Forlorn Gate by TedGore

The Forlorn Gate

Well, it’s been about 2 months since I last posted here as I’ve been off traveling doing what I love! While I was gone I found myself in Patagonia for a month, followed by two weeks running workshops in the Columbia River Gorge with TJ Thorne in Oregon(which were a fantastic time), followed by some down time in Hawaii, which I owed to my wife for letting me take off for 6 weeks without her! Anyway, plenty of images coming from those travels, but I wanted to get some older stuff out of the way first.

Here is an image from some dramatic coastline in southern California I shot back in March as a storm cleared. Water rushed over the rocky foreground as cormorants kept me company. I love this sea stack as it resembles a crumbled section of a massive stone fortress wall.

Multiple exposures were used to capture a wider angle of view along with various shutter speeds to capture elements in the scene.

I want to bring some attention to a workshop my good friends Erin Babnik and Enrico Fossati are running this summer in the Italian Dolomites. I’m positive you could not find a better workshop being run in these relatively low-photographed, amazing mountains! It’s an opportunity that can’t be missed. Please check it out and get MORE INFORMATION HERE if you are interested!

Whitebark Pine, Glacier National Park, Montana. A cloud that came from nowhere and transformed a colorless sunrise into something rare.
