This Test Will Help You Place Yourself On Kinsey’s Sexuality Scale

The Kinsey Scale is an idea developed by Alfred Kinsey in 1948. Instead of describing people as either homosexual, heterosexual or bisexual, Kinsey created a scale from heterosexuality to homosexuality. The Kinsey team interviewed thousands of people about their sexual histories. Their research showed that sexual behavior was not always consistent across time.

An official Kinsey “test” does not exist. The scale was based only on the interviews. However, across the web are some tests that can place you on Kinsey Scale. This is one of them.

6 Simple Steps To Take Your Life Back

Does it seem that you are being pulled in a million different directions every single day? Your spouse, your kids, the boss, your best friend, your mom. Everyone wants a piece of you, right now. The problem with all that? You forgot how to say no and you reluctantly say yes. Your life no longer belongs to you. You are at everyone’s beck and call and quite frankly, you’ve just about had enough.

The problem only exists because we let it. We’ve continually made ourselves available to every single living thing on the planet except for one. You. It seems that push has almost come to shove now and we’re ready to take our life back. How hard will that be? Whether it be easy or hard all depends on you. How bad do you want to take your life back and have time for you? Here are a few tips to help you stay on track to do that.

why_your_life_is_not_going_the_way_you_thought1. Make a you schedule.

And stick to it. Block out a section on the calendar a few times a week or as often as you can and dedicate it as your time. No interruptions, just you and the things you love to do. Go for a walk, take a short drive in the country, watch silly movies, whatever. Turn your phone off and spend time loving you.

2. Tell them.

Let people know that you won’t be as available as you have been in the past. Make sure they know to only contact you in the case of an absolute emergency, otherwise, they can deal with the situation themselves or call another friend or family member. Make sure they respect this time that you have dedicated to yourself.

3. Shut it down.

Turn off your phone (unless someone is about ready to have a baby!) and set it aside. Let it go to voicemail. Make sure you have made yourself unavailable to all and totally available to yourself. Whoever is calling, will call back or call someone else. You don’t always have to answer the phone and you don’t always have to run when someone calls.

4. Take a solo vacation.

This is one fantastic way to discover who you truly are and enjoy your own company. You will learn new things about yourself and your surroundings, wherever they may be. You may even find a new purpose or passion while you are out on your travels. Many people who have done this, have discovered that they love to travel and learn about different cultures. This could inspire many to write, blog or do mission work.

5. Treat day.

One day a week, take yourself out to dinner, lunch, a movie or an ice cream. Have a treat day where it’s just you and your favourite thing, food, or snack. Go buy yourself some flowers or, if you’re a guy, maybe your favourite cologne or techy gadget. Whatever the case, honour yourself with a treat day. It’s important to do for yourself as you do for others. You are just as important, if not even more, as everyone else. Embrace your awesomeness.

6. Sign a declaration.

Or write a letter to yourself stating that from now on, you are taking back your life and doing things for yourself. Write about how much you love yourself and how important it is for your mental health and emotional well being to take time each week for you. Look at this letter or declaration as often as you need to, to remind yourself how important you are.

If you don’t take time to honour yourself and take back your life, you will eventually crash and burn. If that doesn’t happen, you will end up feeling resentment towards everyone you are bending over backwards for and will wind up just hating life. Period. As much as we do enjoy doing things for others it’s important to not forget about ourselves while doing so. You’ll enjoy life, your friends and family that much more.

Our tastes in music can say a lot about our personality. It’s obvious that an introverted will never have the same tastes as an extroverted. The likeability of music is very subjective, because it’s based in our own preferences that go into our judgements.

Have you noticed that a certain moments in your life, the preferences have slightly changed? That’s because your moods were different then. However, your tastes are not likely to change dramatically.

Why You Should Be Experiencing Sonder

Sonder is the word to describe the phenomenon that occurs when you realize and acknowledge that everyone around you is living a life as detailed and complex as yours. When you are walking to the subway or parked in traffic waiting for the light to change, sonder is what happens when your thoughts deviate from your own inner monologue to that of others. Sonder is what happens when you are walking through the streets of your city with a bag of groceries and a nervous twitch in your head reminding you of that accidental text you sent, that time you forget to say goodbye and that awful situation that happened at work, when you look up and realize that all the hundreds of other people you see around you are experiencing the exact same phenomenon at the same time as you.

The term sonder itself is a recently coined phrase, created in the blogosphere and not seen before. As much as it is a trend word, now that the concept has been brought to the attention of millions, it should not be played down and its thoughtful ramifications should be properly considered.

sonderWhen we are down and out we become rather selfish, and for good measure, as when our mind and bodies experience what we see as stress, it is our duty to look inward to defend ourselves as humans and seek strength and prosperity. We become a turtle and use our shell to distance ourselves from other outside stressors, in order for us to overcome the ones we are currently feeling. It’s a defensive mechanism and a soothing technique too. When we are vulnerable we are not in a position to positively help anyone else, and we tend to see things from a one track mind.

The concept of sonder, which roughly means to probe or to search in French and German, respectively, gives us respite from our social withdrawal, which is a great way to overcome any fleeting bad energies we are carrying at the time. We all have bad days, but it is not healthy to dwell on them, and we should do that as little as possible. When you are having a dim reflection of your current day or life events, look around you and consider all the other people enduring the same heavy feelings you are; or better yet, use the positive energy from all the happy people you see to motivate yourself.

Sonder doesn’t have to reflect the burdens we all carry, but also the joy we share. Sonder is the realization of the vivid lives that we all share and enjoy together. When you see someone laughing, laugh with them; togetherness and unity is what keeps us all together. It is the way for us to realize our collective ambitions – that when you are on the tram home thinking of new business ideas and writing down new ideas for your next home design or essay, someone else is too, creating and developing the world together, independently.

In order to overcome our personal demons we have to immediately replace the feelings with something else. An act of selflessness is the perfect solution. Instead of focusing on why you are having a bad day, transit your mind to think of other people around you. Consider what they might be experiencing in their day to day life; do not use it as a comparison to make up fanciful stories that let you rest your head, but as something to think of and help you overcome your own struggles more confidently.

This concept allows us to think better of people. At one fancy restaurant I worked at, I remember our manager hired a new bartender who was tall, obese and otherwise quite sloppy. He had sloppy hair and wore his unfitting cloth es in a sloppy manner, while the rest of us were quite well to do. He had a good high English accent, but no one could overcome his uncouth style and manners.

I saw what was happening as none of the other staff members gave him any positive attention, so I made the effort to become very nice to him and welcome him to our staff family.

It quickly turned out that despite his sloppy looks, he was a world class bartender with an excellent taste for foods, had brilliant wit, a charming girlfriend, and quickly became one of our best friends. He made a point to me one night to mention that I was the only person that was nice to him when he started, while now he lead our friendship groups and was often the life of the party. His personality and hidden charm showed all of us not to judge a book by its cover.

Sonder is all of these things. It’s a way to allow us to get over the little things that bring our day down while we remember all the single moms on the bus working hard on their way home after a long day, the kids who are about to write hugely important exams, the people smiling for no reason, and the ability for us to look up to people we don’t know yet, but just might one day.

Can You Actually See As Well As You Think You Can?

From the five senses, the sight is probably the one on which we rely mostly. If we are not visually impaired, we tend to believe that we see everything accurately. Do we? In most cases, actually not!

We might miss slight color differences, details etc. And that because we rarely pay attention to the details, the brain is forming an image based on what we believe it is rather than on what it is.

What Makes A Good Follower

I have already penned a few articles here on my opinion of what makes a good leader, the traits shown by our best managers and boss es to get the job done with dignity and enthusiasm and inspire us all to work more productively.

But there’s another side of the coin as well – being a good follower. As much as a good leader is essential to team performance, being a good student is just as important. It’s the difference between having a good attitude at work and a poor attitude; between showing respect and earning respect. A poor follower drags the team down and leaves a bad example for the others, hopefully not to be replicated. A poor follower demonstrates abilities that leave us all wondering, “how did you get hired here?”. And we don’t want to be that guy!

followerBeing a good follower, a good employee, is the best way to stay a firm course through your position at work now, and the best way to make yourself a candidate for recognition and promotion. And who doesn’t want to look good?

1. Leave the ego at home

I remember getting over this hurdle when I was in my early twenties. As soon as we start working and begin reaching our prescribed milestones we develop a sense of achievement. This can affect our ego with long lasting effects if we don’t realize it happening and nip it in the butt.

Many kids continue on a stream of reaching their set goals without any let, as they reach new salary levels and job positions quickly. This develops an ego of invincibility into adulthood and develops the leaders that we do not like. It makes someone feel like they have always been the best at what they do, which may not be false, but does not allow room for outside influence to improve themselves as much as it should. They shut down other ideas because their ideas already work.

If you want to be a good follower, you must leave the ego at home. Even if you have achieved all you want, one must be humble to accept ideas and solutions from others and keep a level temperament.

2. Being a good listener

Being a good listener does not mean just following the rules, but thinking about them, observing them, enforcing them and using that framework to embetter the workplace for everyone. It means taking an idea that has been suggested and not only doing it, but succeeding it by passing it to others and in course, leading by the example set forth. To be a good follower is to listen to the rules but to be a good leader is to start here by influencing others.

3. Keep a level head

We have to deal with bosses, we have to deal with people below and above us. Our greatest strength at this level is the ability to keep a level temperament throughout the day while we deal with the mirth of people we have to associate with, from customers to upper management. Showing our rigidity in a number of situations makes us look powerful and stern. We are mature enough to handle the ebb and flow of work and life and not be raised too much in any one way throughout the day.

People who cannot keep a level head during times of momentary stress throughout the day seem inexperienced or even immature. To recognize that we all have good and bad days is an essential quality of the working day because we do. To be able to accept all of that with a smile and fight through it is our strength.

4. Leave the issues at home

This is hard to do if we have a heavy burden at home, but it is important to show to our colleagues and supervisors that we can stay focussed at work and not bring others into our dramatic life equations. If your home or social life is so disturbed that you cannot focus at work, perhaps you should take an absence (although I think work is the best way to get your mind off things!). However, staying strong and determined through your work day demonstrates strength through fire and your peers will look up to you for motivation in the future as they see you endure your struggles. You will inspire others, and what better way to overcome something than that?

5. Doing the dirty work

This goes with #1’s point about ego. Remember that no matter how high you are, you are never above doing the work below you. If he/she can do it, so can you. I knew one girl who tried to leave a well paying waiting job to start a wedding planning business. Due to market oversaturation her business failed quickly and she went back to the restaurant with her tail between her legs, making a few jokes along the way. It seemed to others that she was above serving tables, despite the high pay and relative ease. It’s a bad example to set for others. You are never above doing the “dirty work,” we are all in this together.

Are You Ready To Be An Entrepreneur

Imagine being able to work from home, organizing your online business from the tips of your fingers dancing across your laptop, taking vacations for as long as you want to deserted islands, or living in a great city, conducting business with eager sponsors and businessmen…

It’s the dream we all want! Working for ourselves, not having to answer to anyone, not having to wake up at 6 in the morning to commute to work, deciding our own hours and hiring people as we see fit. Are we all entrepreneurs inside?

entrepreneurNot so fast. Although I do this myself, it’s actually incredibly difficult to start your own business, and to succeed with it on a liveable level. Some people I know who have tried ultimately decided that they didn’t like it. It could be the high level of stress, knowing that your next paycheck relies solely on your own personal efforts, or that the freedom of self-employment is oftentimes fatal, when we are so used to adhering to schedules and appointments for most of our life.

1. Can You Handle Free Time?

Some people find the last one a bit of a paradox. Wouldn’t we all love to live a life off the 9 to 5 grid, able to work at our own hours? Imagine all that you could do with all that free time! Well, what would you do?

When I travel and observe other people, I see what happens when people step off the rails for their own time in the spotlight. Here we had young, bright people with great ideas and too much free time – eventually, the freedom caught up to them, and I saw so many people whittling away their savings that they were supposed to use for their online business and marketing on lazy days at the pool, spending their time on Youtube and buying silly things.

Imagine if you quit your job tomorrow with the savings you had and a dream in mind. What happens next? The reality is, that a life off of a schedule is quite hard to get used to. We all know how we feel when we get a day off – we laze around in our pyjamas, take multiple naps and snack in between episodes of our favourite drama or a run in the park. Now imagine doing that everyday. To many people, the shock of coming off of a scheduled life is quite profound. Suddenly, with no one to respond to, your own volition is the only thing that keeps you going. You must be strong and determined in order to not fall into a slump of endless writer’s block and napping days.

2. Can You Afford It?

Most business need some sort of start up capital; in the forms of savings, investments and time, just to say the least. This is strange to say, but successful businesses don’t happen from people who put 100% of themselves into it, because you need to have a lot of everything. Unless you’re already a millionaire, you’re probably going to have to continue working your job in order to pay the bills while you carve your dreams into reality. It’s a lot of work, and many people struggle to overcome this work overload.

3. Do You Have The Patience?

Some of my friends have recently achieved success by using the Amazon website to sell products that they source from developing countries. It’s a popular system to start your first business, but they often worked up to 20 hours a day to get it going. After the plethora of difficult tasks that are required to get things going, including all the research, marketing, international communications, language barrier, trust, design, experimenting, finances and then finally pulling the trigger, it was almost as much work watching them do it as doing it!

However, those who persisted succeeded after a lot of hard work. After they started making sales, they continued to have to put 100% of the revenue from it back into the product in order to keep up with order demands. Despite earning up to $10,000 a month from the sales, it still took them up to a year in order to make pocket profit from it because of sales demand. Another thing to think of when it comes to working online.

Being an entrepreneur is more than just a clever job title. It takes a ton of hard work, patience, passion and perseverance to your cause. Don’t let anything deter you, but it’s important to face reality when deciding to do it. People come up with clever business ideas all the time – a friend of mine recently became a success dog walker through her local business, showing you that there is indeed a market for anything. With 7 billion people on the earth, any idea that you have certainly has merit for someone, somewhere!

Look for ideas anywhere you can, save your money, do the research, and when it’s time to pull the trigger, expect anything. Amazon.com started with a guy selling books out of his garage. What can you do next?

Should You Be Jealous?

If keeping up with the Joneses is raising your day to day stress levels, have no fear – it happens to everyone! As social media takes over our life we are faced with new social challenges that have never been seen before to this grandeur in human history. As news media becomes neighbour media, everyday we see the proverbial Joneses in the face of everyone we follow, as they take lavish vacations, birth beautiful children, buy and sell homes and receive sought after promotions.

And where are we in all of this? Infamously lurking behind on Facebook, watching everyone go about their daily lives and gradually becoming more concerned about our own social status. When was the last time we celebrated something? When was the last time we had something to be proud of to show? When was the last time we posted something that got “100 Likes” on Facebook or new followers on Instagram? How come she has so many followers and I don’t?

jealous2There are some brilliant art commentaries out there on the internet about how today we validate our self worth by the amount of “likes” we get, the amount of “friends” we have, and so on and so forth. They hit us right where it counts because we are all aware that it happens to us. Think about the last time you made a good post – you felt good. Then a few minutes later you felt a buzz in your pocket; you will open your phone to see who liked your post… who commented on your post… who shared your post…

That act of social activity has now taken over your day until you grow tired of waiting for Likes. You feel better when more people like it, and feel estranged when no one likes it at all, or someone comments something you did not expect. It’s normal, it happens, we all do it.

The pinnacle era of human comparison is on us, and it’s our duty to our health to see it for the entertainment that it is without becoming critical of ourselves, for of course self – criticism is the easiest and most accessible scapegoat when it comes to personal judgement.

Remember that you are a humble person. The reason you do not seek validation from things like this is because you are already happy with yourself. You know you do not need reassurance from the internet to show yourself that you are having a good day, or that what you did was worthy of praise.

You are the kind of person who can leave a tip when the barista isn’t looking, the person who will donate to a charity when no one asked, the person who can dance when no one is watching because you are happy with your life. You don’t need the approval of friends, acquaintances and strangers for you to remember what you already know. Learning to give praise without receiving it is a fundamental concept in religions and moral ethics that we learn from childhood. It is our ability to congratulate others for their merits when we have no expectations to receive any such p raise for ourselves. We have to earn it, just as they did.

Should you be jealous? Why? Who cares?

Although I do not think comparing each other is a good way to usurp other people’s credits, maybe sometimes it’s a good way to keep things in perspective.

I had a great friend from University who was always quite the go-getter. He always posted about his academic achievements and great field trips into the wilderness for scientific research. I was living an enjoyable life myself, but I didn’t have a constant reminder of it. I did however, always have a constant reminder of his enjoyable life. Recently he had really achieved the american dream with his newest post of his new car and new job, at a high up banking agency. I was very happy for him, and wondered, was I jealous of his success? Did he do it right, and I, did not?

A little more research into it and I recognized that his new job and home was in one of the smallest towns in our area, with the highest rates of depression, child teen pregnancy, adolescent drug use and other unfortunate statistics. Although it seemed like he was about to start a great life with his career and assets, I became more thankful for my own life in the city where I enjoyed a more cosmopolitan life with more amenities and less of a poor reputation.

Whenever we are congratulating someone for their efforts, is a time to reflect the feelings back onto ourselves and look inside to allow our self to congratulate ourselves for our milestones and successes. There is plenty of love and space in the world to offer pats on the back to everyone around us as well as ourselves. We don’t have to be jealous about anyone’s life because we have our own amazing life to lead. And isn’t that worth celebrating?
