Dramatic Landscape and Ocean Views Shape the Sagaponack Residence
The quiet and beautiful neighborhood of Sagaponack in Suffolk County, New York is renowned for its lovely beaches and innumerable ponds and water bodies. This creates a unique and exciting landscape with coastal charm on one side and wetland magic on the other. Acting as a perfect gateway between both the ecosystems is the stunning Sagaponack Residence designed by Bates Masi Architects. The exquisite contemporary residence spread across 8,965 square feet was largely defined by both the coastal and wetland ‘zoning laws’ that forced the architects to make the best use of the available lot sandwiched between both the zones.
While all that space seems like plenty to work with, the homeowners wanted a lavish home that came with a swimming pool, a pool house, additional guest rooms, a spacious garage and even sports courts, apart from the usual living areas and private quarters! This was accomplished using large glass windows, sliding glass doors and clever partitions that allowed each space to flow into the next even while giving the interior a cheerful, airy appeal. The elevated house also features a set of ‘stepped planters’ that act as a transition between the landscape and the artificial structure.
Corten steel plates, Corian countertops and work surfaces and cedar siding that has been treated to endure the rough coastal winds shape a home that can withstand the fury of the elements and requires little maintenance in the long run. Placing practicality ahead of mere aesthetics, the living area, kitchen and dining space have been designed to multitask as ‘social zones’ with thanks to operable partitions. Gorgeous bedrooms and luxurious bathrooms with an unabated view of the Atlantic complete this fascinating home.

Mellow Yellow: 7 Soothing Apartments with Sunny Accents
Yellow can be a polarizing color. Some people would love nothing more than to wake up to a room full of the bright, sunny shade while others keep it out of their homes altogether. Fortunately for the rest of us, it is possible to find a happy medium. The seven apartments featured in this post use pops of yellow – some subtle and some bold – to take the best that the color has to offer without making their living rooms look like th side of a school bus. Take a look inside these stylish, modern homes and get some ideas about how to incorporate this joyful color into your house.
The first home is a sleek and simple apartment that keeps its lines smooth and its overall color story neutral. However, woven throughout the cool beige and natural wood elements is the idea of yellow. Subtler elements include a splash of throw pillow and a few buds in a vase, while bolder choices are the long, heavy curtains and even the staircase to the upper level.
The second apartment uses much paler shades to a very soothing and almost retro effect. The buttercup yellow area rug in the living room plays with the yellow patterned throw pillow, but they don’t actually match. The result is a warm and cozy feeling that’s just mismatched enough.
In the next apartment the yellow is even more subtle. Focus in the living room area is pulled to an extra comfy-looking yellow chair piled over with pillows. The through line happens as the yellow carries over into a small side table and single pillow left on the sofa, almost (but not quite) on accident.
Yellow upholstery is an especially bold choice in this living room. A soft velour sofa in a bright, mustard yellow gives off a 70’s vibe without any of the tackiness. A casually tossed pillow in the bedroom brings that decadent color in there as well.
Yellow paint is an easy way to refresh a space that’s feeling tired. In this home, a yellow accent wall coupled with a single yellow light fixture create a mod theme. More yellow paint made its way into the bedroom and bathroom to give a unified feeling.
Another yellow sofa in this apartment is just as bright, but without the soft texture feels more modern. It works well with the black, white, and grey theme in the rest of the house. In the kid’s room and bath, a teal and orange in the same tone as the yellow creates a bit more interest.
The final apartment really takes yellow as an accent, from a yellow glass light fixture to throw pillows and a backsplash. There is no big yellow furniture or even a wall, making this perhaps the most subtle of the seven.

30 Ways to Create a Trendy, Dashing Industrial Dining Room
They say that fashion goes in circles and so does interior design. The last few years have seen a resurgence in styles and trends that have been largely perceived as outdated and boring in the 90s that was dominated by simple cubes, beige and a turn towards modernity. Styles like art deco, midcentury have been revitalized by contemporary designers who have given them an elegant, modern twist. But no others singular style has made as much impact in homes world over in recent times as ‘industrial’.

That unpretentious and stripped-back style which places ergonomics ahead of aesthetics seems to be back with a bang. While we have showcased some captivating industrial bedrooms and smart kitchens in the past, today we take a look at the 30 best dining rooms wrapped in this timeless style. Dig in and enjoy!
Brick, Metal and Wood
To replicate a style that you admire or love, it is always important to understand its origins and of course, the basic components that shape it. In case of the industrial style, it was necessity and a utilitarian approach that were its driving forces. Early industrial revolution-era settings that gave birth to the style did not worry about the visual appeal of the place. It was always about working with what was on offer. This is precisely why you see a fabulous blend of contrasting textures in industrial space, which is considered ‘exciting and cool’ by modern designers. Your industrial style dining room should be no different in its approach to contrasting raw surfaces.

Brick walls are obviously a favorite among homeowners when it comes to shaping an industrial dining space. They offer a cozy, yet edgy backdrop that sets the tone of the other additions. Arched metal frame windows, exposed wooden ceiling beams and even untreated concrete surfaces combine beautifully to shape that smart, unique dining room with a debonair industrial flair. Exposed ductwork and a cool color scheme complete this picture-perfect look.

Light it up with Glam!
Lighting plays a vital role no matter what the style of your dining room is, but if you are opting for styles such as Asian, Mediterranean or industrial, then it becomes twice more important! While traditionally large metallic pendants inspired by the past are the preferred choice (And they do look absolutely perfect in a grand dining room), there are many contemporary alternatives that work equally well. In fact, you can use your lighting fixture to usher in a hint of chic, contemporary charm or midcentury modern magic in a dining room that is dominated by an industrial vibe. This creates a subtle, underrated fusion of styles even while adding to the overall appeal of the space.

Functionality Precedes Form
Even though the many industrial living rooms and bedrooms that we often see are huge spaces with an open, airy ambiance, the style works well even in smaller setting. A small dining room can also pull off the industrial look, but it does require a lot more care. For starters, ensure that the space is as uncluttered as possible and evenly lit. Even if it is not truly spacious, opening it up towards the living room next to it or the view outside will aid in enhancing the appeal of the room. Keep the use of color to a minimum and pick one dominating texture (brick, metal or concrete) to shape the backdrop.

Unexpected, Edgy Appeal
Industrial style dining rooms allow you to experiment with decor and accessories far more freely than almost any other style. Giving this dining room a surprising twist with additions such as daring wall art, oversized pendant lights or even a vintage bike or two can turn it into an absolute showstopper. A custom-crafted dining table, an eclectic blend of iconic chairs, a splash of unexpected color or even a cloak of natural greenery can completely alter the atmosphere of the dining room and turn the mundane setting into a truly captivating backdrop. Make sure though that these additions do not take over and disturb the overall style of the space.

Salvaged items and upcycled decor also make up an important part of the industrial style. Use an old, re-painted trunk as a credenza or decorate the dining table with a vintage vase that you unearthed in a recent trip to the flea market. Give it a touch of personality and individuality and let your imagination give it its final shape.
