Stop Talking Sh*t and Start Taking Action

This blog post covers the one thing I hate the most: People who claim to be entrepreneurs but who aren’t doing any of the shit they constantly talk about. There are way too many individuals who express their next big idea or their future investment of some kind in some type of company that is actually, physically doing absolutely nothing. It’s sad – but it’s a fact, and it’s true.

Let’s face it:

plan your dream

An idea without execution revolves around nothing. I honestly believe that a successful business is 10% Idea and 90% Execution. In other words, if you think have a good, thriving business idea – then you should put your idea into action, and start working on the reality of it. Don’t bore us all by discussing it for years to come.

Starting your own business pushes a person through an enormous range of emotions. It is one of the most thrilling and exciting experiences, as much as it can also be a rather scary situation for many. Perhaps fear or simple inertia is what keeps some people from taking the first step. In the end, talking is easy as f*ck – what’s hard is taking action.

If you are reading this and feel like I am talking about you – then I just want you to realize that you should start moving, taking action, and do what you say will. If your mind is stewing over a strong business idea, then you already have some kind of entrepreneurial mindset.

Don’t let obstacles get in your way! If you don’t have anybody in your entourage that is already an entrepreneur or that can help you get where you want, keep pushing and work harder! Don’t stop to take the time to listen to anyone’s negative comments. Just keep doing what you have to in order to attain your dreams – if that’s what you truly want. However cliché it may sound, you’ve only got one life so make the best out of it!

Again, let’s face it:

move forward

Everyone on Earth is going to come to an end in the same way, so why stop yourself from doing what you love most? What matters is what you are doing while you are alive.

Nobody is ever really 100% ready to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is like jumping off a cliff and building a plane on your way down in order to stay alive.

The important thing is taking that first step towards the start of your dreams right now! There will never be a better time, let alone the “right” time to start a business. It’s only up to you to create the right time.

Here is some advice that I received when starting my first business:

Find someone that is already doing what you dream of and ask them questions on how to get started

You actually have to take the first step

Plan your long term AND your short term goals in order to stay motivated

The road to success is a long one so keep yourself pumped up – or the difficulties and obstacles along the way will literally knock the shit out of you.

Follow your heart

Do what you think is right for you and don’t stop to listen to anybody who tries to convince you that your dreams are crazy or impossible. This person is only limited by their own thoughts and you are only limited by yours. If you think that you can achieve something, don’t stop at excuses and make it happen instead.

Work you ass off!

These are the “rules” that I am following myself and that have helped me in moving forward even when I felt like losing faith. If you only remember one thing about this post, remember that you’ve got what it takes to start following your dreams. Stop Talking and Start Doing!

When it comes to attaining your dreams, there is no time to deal with sentiments and feelings. Too many feelings in business and you’re literally out of business. Forget everything else. Put everything aside and let your burning desire and passion take over instead.

Do you know what time it is?

IT’S TIME TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!

5 Habits to Make The New Year Your Best Year Yet

A new year is now ahead of us. Every year, people make goals and resolutions to better themselves only to fail. Rather than making big resolutions, how about just adding a new habit to your life?

Make this new year your best year yet by developing these five habits.

Have fun being active

being active

Instead of having a tangible goal to lose five pounds or to fit into your skinny jeans, make it a goal to be active and to have fun while doing so. You may need to explore some new active hobbies such as bicycling, yoga, or hiking.

It can be difficult to commit to going to a stuffy gym five times a week but if you enjoy going out for a long ride on your street bike, you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Exercise has so many benefits from reducing your risk of developing diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and more, to improving your mental health and mood.

Pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill

Hobbies offer you an escape from the daily grind and let you try out new challenges. They also provide an outlet for stress and can be a great way to blow off steam. Learning a new skill challenges your mind in new ways and can ignite new passions in you. There has to be one or two things that you have always wanted to try, but never found the time or courage. Why not try them now? Adding another thing

There has to be one or two things that you have always wanted to try, but never found the time or courage. Why not try them now? Adding another thing to your plate may seem like it will add more stress but hobbies give you a break from the routine and can actually be a great stress reliever.

Increase the quality time you spend with family and friends

Hardly anyone ever regrets taking their spouse on a great date or making fun memories with their children. So do this more. Your to-do list can wait. Be intentional this year about dating your spouse, having playdates with your kids, and visiting your parents at their place. Tasks and goals will eventually fade away, but time spent with loved ones is cherished forever.

Practice gratitude

Studies show that people who are grateful tend to be happier. By practicing gratitude, you don’t have to change your circumstances at all. You simply have to change your mindset.

Start a gratitude journal where each day, you write down three things you are grateful for, or share the things you are grateful for with your family. By appreciating all the good things in your life, you will be much happier.

Reduce screen time

read a book

We waste so much time behind our phones, tablets, computers, and TVs. Commit to reducing your screen time this year and spend that time doing something more productive and fulfilling.

You can go for a walk outside, read a book, play with your kids, or practice the new skill you are learning. If you need to zone out behind a screen for a bit, set a timer and turn it off once the alarm rings. You’d be surprised at how much more fulfilling life can be when you aren’t binge-watching Netflix or scrolling through Facebook.

All of these are simple enough to start and can make a big impact in your health and mindset this coming year. Take the time to make these small changes and by the end of the year, you’ll look back and realize this year has been one of your best yet!

10 Ways Your Life Improves When You Become a Freelancer

Have you ever considered how your life might change if you became a freelancer?

It’s nice having job security. You know you have a guaranteed paycheck every two weeks, a set schedule, good benefits, and two weeks of vacation each year. But deep down inside, there is a nagging question that never really goes away:

Could I have a better life if I hung my shingle as a freelancer?

For many, the answer is a definite yes. And there has never been a better time to be in business for yourself providing freelance services to others.

Becoming a freelancer is not without its challenges, of course. You have to be highly self-motivated, know how to advertise effectively, and be able to offer a service that others want and need. But once established with a handful of customers who give you repeat business, your quality of life will improve in a number of ways.

You Earn More When You Work More

As a salaried employee, it doesn’t matter whether you work 40 hours a week or 60. It also doesn’t matter whether you work harder than everyone else in your department or do just enough to keep from getting fired. You are paid exactly the same regardless of your efforts.

See Also: 5 Freelancing Tips That Will Make you Successful

Things are much different for freelancers.

As a freelancer, the more projects you take on, the more you earn. If you want to earn more to save up for a new car, you can take on more client projects and work longer hours. And on the other hand, if you are comfortable with earning less and want to have more time to enjoy life, you can do that, too.

You Can Work Wherever You Want

work anywhere

As an employee, you usually have to work at a designated location. Yes, there are some companies that now recognize the benefits of letting employees work from home. But for most companies, such arrangements are the exception rather than the norm.

As a freelance, you are free to work wherever you want – even if it’s from your hotel room while you’re on an extended Caribbean vacation or while you’re traveling the country in an RV. There’s a good reason why many refer to freelancing as the laptop lifestyle. You have everything you need to run your business as long as you have access to a laptop computer, a telephone, and an internet connection.

You Get to Set Your Own Hours

Employees usually have to adhere to a rigid schedule with set hours. Not so for freelancers who have a great deal of flexibility in when they work.

Do you do your best work early mornings or late at night? No problem. As a freelancer, you can work during the hours of your choosing. You can also take time off if you aren’t feeling well without having to explain your absence to a boss.

No More Commute

The daily commute to and from work takes up a huge chunk of your everyday life.  As a freelancer, you are already at work wherever you are so you are able to reassign your commute time to either more work hours or more leisure time.

And in addition to saving time from cutting out the commute, you also save by putting fewer miles on your vehicle each year. That means you get to save big on maintenance, repairs, and expensive fuel.

No More Following Company Rules

As an employee, you usually have to follow a rigid – and often lengthy – set of company rules. Sometimes these rules are based on common sense and are easy to follow. But that’s not always the case.

As a freelance entrepreneur, you are your own boss. Your work rules are whatever you say they are. You are free to make things as rigid or relaxed as you like.

You Save Money on Work Attire

Nearly all companies have dress codes that you are required to follow. And this can really get expensive if you are expected to dress up on a daily basis.

As a freelancer, you are free to dress however you like. Your work attire could be sweatpants and a t-shirt if you prefer. This lets you save big on pricey outfits and cleaning bills.

You Get to Skip Time-Wasting Meetings

If you’ve ever been in an unproductive meeting that felt like it would never end, you’re certainly not alone. Company meetings are notorious time-wasters. But attendance is often mandatory.

As a freelancer, you can keep the meetings to a minimum. If it’s necessary to have a meeting with a client, you can set the terms to make sure it’s brief, to the point, and that it stays on track.

An End to Office Politics

Dealing with office politics can be demeaning. Being in a position where you have to affirm everything your boss says and does to advance your career is a terrible way live.

As a freelancer, you don’t have to be a “yes person” to anyone. You are the boss. You get to earn more by working more instead of brown nosing for a promotion.

You Get to Take Breaks Whenever You Want

freelancing benefit

As an employee, you are trading hours for dollars. The company owns your time. They determine your work schedule, approve your vacation time, and even tell you when you can take a break.

As a self-employed freelancer, you can take a break whenever you like and for as long as you want. As long as you complete all of your work, it truly doesn’t matter. There are some, for example, who can actually increase their productivity by taking short, frequent breaks.

No More Thermostat Wars

Do you prefer to work in an environment that’s a little warmer or cooler than everyone else? Well, tough luck if you work for a company where thermostats are typically set for maximum efficiency. Your options are usually limited to bundling up or bringing a fan and hoping for the best.

As a freelancer, you are completely free to keep your dwelling as warm or cool as you like. Being comfortable in your environment allows you to concentrate on your work without the distraction of being too warm or too cold.

The Grass Really is Greener on the Other Side

Making the transition from employee to freelance writer is not always easy, but it is definitely worth it. When you do, your quality of life will improve in so many ways, even ways you may not have thought of. There’s never been a better time to make it happen.

How to Make Your Bathroom Truly Unique

There are so many ways to design and decorate your bathroom nowadays. It is no longer about the fixtures but also the visual appeal. It’s how you feel from the moment you step into the bathroom. Other than the physical design of the bathroom shape and size, you can do many things to transform this commonly overlooked room in your home.

Here are some bathroom design ideas that can transform your bathroom.

Printed tiles

You can dress your bathroom with a large format image of whatever you want. These are modern designs printed on tiles to turn your bathroom into a uniquely marvelous personal place. You can even have full images of places like Venice to give you a feeling of actually being there.

Walk-in shower

Nothing makes a bathroom unique like a free-standing tub and a walk-in style shower. A free-standing tub is an attractive centerpiece for your bathroom and gives it a relaxing atmosphere.

By adding these pieces, you give your bathroom a luxurious spa-like feel. This design gives a bathroom a functional and modern appeal in every aspect.

Wood clad tubs

Who would have imagined that wood would be used in a modern bathroom? Imagine a lovely bathroom with the tub clad in timber to match the sinks. All the walls are covered with wood which gives a natural appeal and relaxing ambiance to your bathroom.

Use big tiles to enlarge your bathroom

Whether you are building a new bathroom or renovating, you can choose big tiles for your bathroom. Big tiles are excellent at creating long lines without visually breaking up space.

If you can, use the same tile throughout the entire bathroom. This will make even a tiny space appear large. Opt for a cool-toned tile to provide a relaxing atmosphere.

Shell-filled bathroom

Adorning your bathroom all over with shells can make it look like you are at the beach relaxing. Bathrooms don’t have to be boring and traditional; you can make yours a fun place to spend time and even meditate in.

Build holding racks with narrow molding strips, plastic or wood to beautifully display the variety of shells all around the bathroom walls. This will give you visual satisfaction as you lie soaking in your tub.

Roadmap bathroom

If you love to travel, showcase it in your bathroom! Placing a large, high-quality waterproof map on your bathroom can make it look unique as well as providing you with a map to dream about and plan your next road trip out of town. By replacing your plain walls with a map of the places you want to travel to, you add excitement to an otherwise ordinary room.

Double shower bathroom

Via elledecor

Why not do a double shower for your next bathroom renovation? It can be both fun and functional since two people can easily shower at the same time and even swap mid shower.

This design is suitable for a large bathroom that allows for free movement and provides spatial freedom to install additional facilities like a standalone tub. If you have at least one round corner in the bathroom, it will be unique to a level not easily matched.

Wet room

Via dynastypartners

This design gives no discernible space for showering like most bathrooms; your shower place is decided the moment you choose to shower. With a tub at the wall, you have enough space to move around with the partially portable shower heads. This creates a sense of freedom to relax your mind after a stressful day or a long trip.

How To Choose Headphones That Best Suit You

The sound of music – the sound of life. The projection of sound by a suitable headphone can give so much joy. I have noticed that a lot of people are concerned about the design, weight, and comfort a headphone affords them, which is good because you don’t want to spend more than 150 bucks on something you wouldn’t enjoy after a while. And since this website is all about saving money, it would be a good idea to write an article on how people can properly decide on a pair of headphones suited for them without going for an inefficient trial-and-error method.

A Look at the Drivers

The drivers in a pair of headphones convert electric signals into an audible sound. You can think of it as a tiny loudspeaker. The size of the driver is useful in gauging its capability in producing good sound. Interestingly, the quality of the driver unit makes a huge difference in the sound being produced. Headphones with dynamic drivers do a better job of producing powerful bass and can achieve the right amount of sound pressure with less power.

Frequency

The human ear can listen to sound between 20 – 20000 Hz and most headphones have frequencies within this range. The first number represents the base end while the last number represents the treble end of the spectrum.

You should note that better frequency response does not always mean better sound quality. However, the frequency response is important because it measures the ability of the headphones to produce all frequencies equally, that is, from the lowest to the highest tones.

As much as the manufacturers might put up a range of numbers indicating the range over which tones can be reproduced; the best way to know the pair of headphones that suits you is to listen to them. Try to see if more tones are reproduced exactly the same way since it’s not so easy for headphones to reproduce every tone perfectly.

Consider the Headphone Impedance

dj headphones

This is the reason why headphones sound differently when plugged into different devices. Headphone impedance is measured in ohms. You can choose either low impedance headphones or high impedance headphones depending on what you intend to plug them into. Headphones with high impedance (maybe 100ohms and above) are not designed for portable devices such as your smartphone.

Lower impedance headphones (within 16 – 32ohms) are preferable when your device is portable. Headphones with lower impedance require little power to deliver high audio levels. Low impedance headphones work well with portable music players, phones, and other portable devices. If you use them with powerful amplifiers, they will likely just blow out.

Headphone Sensitivity

Headphone sensitivity works hand in hand with headphone impedance. Sensitivity has to do with how well certain headphones are able to convert electric signals into clear and distinct sounds. The sensitivity and impedance of these headphones must correspond so as to regulate and produce sound without distortion. It is measured in decibels of sound pressure level per milliwatt (dB SPL/ mW). The sensitivity of headphones is within the range of 80 – 125 dB SPL /mW but note that at 120 dB, the human ear begins to replace the sense of hearing with that of pain.

Headphones with lower sensitivity require more power. As such, if you are to use them with portable devices like tablets and phones, this will adversely affect the sound quality as you will need to turn up the volume of your device and hence risk a quick drain of your battery.

Noise Cancelling Features

The beauty of listening to music without distractions, even in the midst of distractions, is what headphones with noise canceling features afford you. It enables you to listen to music by reducing unwanted sounds around you using active noise control.

You might not want to worry yourself over the details of the process, but headphones have a tiny microphone that listens for unwanted noise, analyses it and reflects sound waves back into your ears. This process zaps out the noise, helping you hear nothing but music. These headphones are quite expensive, though. They also require that you charge them up. But keep in mind that they give a pretty awesome listening experience.

Noise isolation is different from noise cancellation because it employs passive noise control. Passive noise control headphones are headphones that are pressed tightly against, or that are completely covering your ears and they cut out outside sound in the process.

Whether you are considering earphones or full-sized headphones, all of the above should be put into consideration. These specifications are essential. Each of them, if correctly understood, can help you make a wise choice as per what headphones to get. So take your time, choose the pair of headphones with a perfect driver, superb frequency, great sensitivity, and moderate impedance for whatever purpose you might have in mind.

Also keep in mind that the more expensive a headphone is, the higher its chances of producing great sound quality due to better engineering and the use of quality materials.

What sure beats any of the above is taking your time to listen via the headphone options you have, to see which suits you well.

You can share your thoughts with me as I am open to discussions, opinions, and questions.

Top 10 Tips to Help Children Develop Useful Habits

Being a good parent means helping your kids acquire healthy habits and helping them drop the bad ones. It doesn’t matter whether your child is a toddler or a teenager, there is always time for you to help and motivate your children to be better people by aiding them and setting an example.

However, with the sheer amount of pressure every parent experiences when trying to raise children, they might often feel helpless and desperate. Parents might not know what healthy habits are of the biggest priority for children and where the best place to start is.

This might be a bit overwhelming considering that the problems your children need help with vary greatly, from providing help with term paper writing to picking sports to practice. To help you along, we have created a list of things you definitely should teach your child regardless of their age.

Eat healthy food

This might be one of the most simple habits your child should be introduced to. By feeding them healthy products, you will increase their energy and promote better well-being.

However, as children tend to like unhealthy foods more, introducing them to this habit might not be the easiest task. So, make sure to be a good example for them because no matter what you teach them, if they see you eating pizza for dinner while they have to eat broccoli, it will only make them angry.

Some households are successful in getting their children to eat healthy by not introducing junk foods into their diet at all and letting children understand the benefits of healthy eating.

Also, it might be easier if you make eating healthy into a fun activity. An example would be creating pictures out of food. Check out bento boxes for inspiration.

See Also: Four Simple Ways to Teach Your Kids to Say “NO” to Junk Foods

Say no to gadgets

If you can’t keep your children from using their gadgets, at least limit the time and duration that they are used. For instance, you can ask them to spend up to twenty minutes a day watching their favorite cartoons.

On top of that, you can use this time as a reward for helping family members or for doing the homework. This way, you are hitting two birds with one stone.

Also, make sure you are a good example for them here as well. If you cannot spend even a few moments without your cell phone, your kids will surely pick up the same habits.

Quality family time

family quality time

Spending quality family time is an investment for your children. Not only are you creating many happy memories for your children, you are also teaching them how precious the family is.

So, consider planning family trips or celebrating certain holidays only in the family circle and involve your children in making preparations.

Playing sports

Taking care of your health is vital. However, not all parents can be considered as role models for their kids in this area. Some parents are too stressed at work while some run away from exercise.

Show your children that taking care of one’s health is a priority. Get involved in some kind of sport with your kids and inculcate it as a habit.

Life values

It is from parents that we learn our values first. They teach us responsibility, accountability, and selflessness.

Therefore, if you want your child to grow up to be mature and grown-up, be the kind of person you want them to be. You are the first and the most important role model for them.

Being positive

Don’t be a negative person. Try to cheer your children up even when things are not going as well as you would want them to. You can always find a bright side and encourage your whole family.

By choosing a positive path, you will improve your children’s future. In comparison, being a negative person will definitely affect their own personalities and well-being.

Realistic goals

People often get frustrated after they fail to achieve goals they set. They feel like a failure, even though they are not.

Sometimes, failing is a byproduct of setting unrealistic goals. Therefore, to keep your children happy and going, teach them to set realistic goals and then to go on from there.

Teach them to break up their ambitions into doable tasks and challenges, all the while working towards their bigger dreams.

Saying “no”

Many people regret not having this habit. We cannot say “no” even when we know that we cannot fulfill what people ask us for. We tend to try and please everyone, and we mostly pick it up after our parents who either used to be like this or set huge expectations we could not meet. Thus, teach your children to say “no”, and they will be forever grateful to you.

Being a good friend

being a good friend

This habit is a key to a successful life. We never feel like a failure when we have friends who can help us get through life’s darkest moments. Therefore, teaching your children how to make genuine friends and what it means to be a good friend themselves is truly a blessing. First, be a good friend to your kids, and then encourage them making friends with kids of their age.

Honesty

And finally, we come to honesty. Teach your children how to be true to themselves, their friends, and to you. Help them understand that lying or pretending never works as a lie is always found out in the end. To be happy and satisfied, they have to be real and true to what they believe in.

If parents teach their children these simple yet powerful habits, parents will see a real miracle of how a small helpless child grows to be a healthy young person of great value.

What to Ask Your Pharmacist

With so many miracle drugs on the market these days, it’s rare to leave your doctor’s office without at least one prescription in hand. To safely use your medications to their full benefit, there are questions every patient should ask the pharmacist. Whereas your doctor may be limited to the time he can spend with you to thoroughly explain your medications, your pharmacist is trained to counsel you about the specifics of the prescribed drug during the course of your treatment.

All medications are dispensed with written information about the drug, and most of the printed information is easily understood. Occasionally, however, the medication your doctor has prescribed can cause certain conditions or side effects. To better understand your medication, you should ask for a consultation at the pharmacy, especially if you’ve been given multiple prescriptions for your medical condition.

What is it for?

The most obvious questions are what is the medication and why was it prescribed. Along with the uses of the medication, your pharmacist will be able to tell you about the conditions for which it is prescribed and whether the course of treatment will be temporary or long-term.

See Also: 8 Natural Supplements For Reducing Depression

How to take?

Another important point to go over with the pharmacist is how to use the medication. Your doctor has written out his directions for use, but it’s the pharmacist’s job to interpret it and instruct you in how much to take and when to take it. Most medications should be taken at regular intervals, and some at specific times of the day or night.

What are interactions?

asking pharamacist

Some medications react adversely with certain foods, or can cause dangerous interactions with other medications, both over-the-counter products and other prescriptions. Some combinations can worsen your condition, others can cause serious medical emergencies.

Your first step to safely using prescribed medicines should always be to tell your doctor what others you take and if you have any allergies. It is equally important to your treatment for your doctor to know of any other conditions you have even if you do not take medications for them. Your pharmacist should also be made aware of this information on your pharmacy profile.

What are side effects?

Almost every pharmaceutical drug has side effects. Some are minor, but others can be debilitating. Not all patients will be subject to every medication side effect, but every adverse effect that occurred during testing will be noted on the printed information the pharmacist gives you with your prescription. Routine side effects usually diminish after a day or so of treatment.

The most common side effects of any new medication are drowsiness, dizziness, rash, or itching. The pharmacist can advise what to look for and whether to stop taking the medication immediately and call the doctor to report more serious side effects that persist or worsen, such as slowed breathing, bruising or bleeding, or unusual fatigue.

What is proper storage?

prescription bottles

Certain medications need special handling or storage. Most prescription pills are dispensed in dark bottles or vials because continuous exposure to light will cause them to lose effectiveness. Medicines stored in bathrooms, where it is often damp or humid, can lose their potency. Ask the pharmacist about the best method of storing your particular medication.

Prescription medications can keep disease and illness under control only if we use them properly and know how to avoid medication mistakes. The role of the pharmacist is to help us do just that.

The Essential Elements of Modern Web Design

Modern web design for the 21st century is very different from what we were working with back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Simply put, we have come a long way in the last 15 years. The modern website is now the engine of modern business rather than just an electronic calling card or digital Yellow Page listing. And in order for a website to actually fulfill its mission-critical purpose, certain essential elements have to be included during the design phase.

Designing a website is a lot like building a world-class luxury resort. Designers must first figure out what their customers want for the best experience possible. Then they build multiple layers of code, one on top of another, to construct everything from the mechanics under the hood to the user interface that will eventually define the customer experience.

Like a luxury resort, a properly designed and constructed website will have visitors returning on a regular basis. Loyal visitors will tell others as well, driving traffic and improving the site’s online reputation.

There are five essential elements that should be part of every website online:

Minimalism

minimalist design

Modern web-surfers share the impatience of a child. They want information fast and bounce right away if the purpose isn’t served.

A minimalistic layout features clean web pages that aren’t stuffed with clutter. Clean pages emphasize what the user wants.

The website revolves around user-centric design philosophy that provides users a crux of what they are looking for while keeping the focus on limited information. Effective use of white space, informative videos over text, plain typography, and animations are some of the elements that form the part of the minimal approach in web designing.

SVG Graphics

The use of SVG or scalable vector graphics is booming and the designers that have ignored their significance still struggle with pixelated images when the website is resized at a certain zoom level. Incorporating SVGs in the web design enhances the overall impact of the page as they are resolution independent, have smaller file size, and improve the load performance of a website.

SVGs scale in size perfectly without compromising quality and are very well supported by all browsers, except internet explorer 8 or its earlier versions. However, even this matter can be resolved by converting SVG code into the format supported by Raphael.js.

Hamburger Menu

Today’s impatient ‘infosnacker’ doesn’t want to scroll through your whole website. Surfers demand relevant information to finish an action as soon as they land on your page.

Companies or web designers that have understood the significance of a de-cluttered layout have effectively incorporated the Hamburger Menu (≡) or the ‘Navicon’ on the top corner of their website.

The Hamburger Menu offers clear and direct navigation and lets the users refer menu from any page of the website. Big brands like Ebay and Stella McCartney have integrated ‘Navicon’ in their web design to enhance the overall UX.

Not just that, the hamburger menu could also be seen on the top right of Google Chrome.

Big Hero Images

Big sized high-resolution images have become an integral part of the modern web design. Huge responsive images are being used as background or foreground of the websites to present the content in a crisp manner without putting too many words to it.

The websites with hero images win the focus of the visitors fast, as the arresting imagery put more impact and inspire them to explore more.

Personalized Experience

Personalizing content by utilizing information gathered through stored cookies isn’t something very new; however, the extent of personalization is increasing day by day to suit each visitor’s preferences. Web sites are focusing on creating an experience that is personalized as per the past behaviors of the customer. Using customer-specific information like location, browsing patterns, and buying history, allows the marketers to tailor the user experience of each visitor on their website and enhance conversions.

Full-Screen Videos

People are reluctant to read chunks of unneeded verbiage today as videos are more approachable to them and convey the value and vision of a brand in just a few minutes. By incorporating the videos that play automatically in the site background, you can offer the visitor a more engaging and influential interface without using any text.

It’s been a year since full-screen videos with vital text overlaid are in trend. They have enhanced the user experience and given many websites a modern look and feel.

Social Media Tie-Ins

Including social media tie-ins throughout website content reigned as one of the must-have web design trends in 2016. At the very least, a website’s homepage needs to provide the appropriate links to encourage visitors to share content on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. Additional tie-ins might also be valuable.

For example, a website offering a tremendous amount of visual information may want to tie into Pinterest and Snapchat. YouTube is a good tie-in for sites with substantial video content, while LinkedIn is vital for business connections. To ignore social media is to ignore one of the most important marketing tools of modern web development.

Lastly, today’s web users expect a modern looking design in the websites they visit. A site that looks like it has not been updated since the 1990s is one that will not be taken seriously, regardless of the value of the information it offers. Therefore, essential web development builds on the mechanics of underlying code to create a visually appealing presentation that users find pleasing to look at.

That said, the visual presentation should never hinder performance. Numerous studies that were done over the years clearly show that website visitors who perceive it takes too long for a page to load will have no problem abandoning that page and moving on to another.

Modern website development is critical to the success of business. How is your site doing?

5 Reasons Why You Should Volunteer

You have 101 things to do in a given day. You have to drop the kids off at school, prepare for an important meeting, study for an exam, redecorate your living room, or catch up with the latest Game of Thrones season. You would love to volunteer, but you just got too much on your plate right now.

But, here’s the thing: volunteering can, in fact, help you reduce stress, learn new skills, find new friends, and make a real difference in your community. If you give it a try, it might open the door to a revolutionary time in your life.

With that in mind, here are five reasons why you should volunteer.

You Can Make a Real Difference

You are extremely lucky. You have clean water, clothing, footwear, food, and access to free education. Maybe it’s time to give back a little. Use your skills to make a real difference in your community.

Do you like to read? Consider teaching. Do you love animals? Work at an animal shelter. Are you handy? Volunteer to build houses and schools for the less fortunate.

It Gives You a Sense of Purpose

Volunteering Connects You to Like-Minded People

Many people who volunteer tend to be as open-minded, lively, and friendly as you are. It’s fascinating how many like-minded people you will meet when you volunteer, even if they come from different backgrounds or have different ages. You will establish powerful connections that are only possible when you truly are out of your comfort zone. Even if your mindset is completely different from your fellow volunteers, you will bond over the love for the cause you are working for together.

Volunteering Is Good for Your Mind and Body

Helping others and being useful can bring you high satisfaction and motivation, which are the foundation for a healthy mind and body. Numerous studies have shown that there is a direct connection between volunteering and a lower rate of illness or depression. The social contact aspect of volunteering can have a powerful effect on your overall well-being. After all, nothing fights stress better than a real connection with a like-minded person.

If you are introverted, you can opt to volunteer at an animal shelter. Studies have found that working with animals can reduce stress and anxiety.

In addition to improving mood, building self-confidence and combating depression, volunteering can also help you to stay physically healthy. Studies have found that volunteers are healthier and live longer than those who don’t volunteer. Older volunteers tend to have a stronger psychological well-being and remain physically functional for longer.

Volunteering Brings Fulfillment to Your Life

Researchers at the University of Exeter spent years analyzing tons of data only to confirm what most volunteers already know: giving back makes you happier. Volunteering is a great way to explore your passions and interests. It allows you to escape from your daily routine of school, work, and other commitments and do something energizing and relaxing.

More than that, volunteering can provide motivation, vision, and creativity that you can later use in your personal and professional life. By stepping outside of your comfort zone, you can get a new perspective on your health and happiness and achieve a sense of fulfillment that you can’t get anywhere else.

Volunteering will make you feel good while doing good. It will help you appreciate the amazing, generous life you’ve been given, and it will help you grow as a person.

How to Change the Pointer Speed in Android

Nowadays, our Android phones are our constant companions (unless you’re an Apple user). We can’t even think a minute looking at our smartphones. Browsing something on the internet, connecting with friends via social networks- everything can be done via our Android phone with ease. But unfortunately, most of us don’t even know the proper functions and many interesting options of the Android phones.

Do you know why Android phones are popular amongst many of us? It’s all because of the simple functionalities and easy modules of the operating system.

A few days ago, I was personally stumped by a question – how to change the pointer speed of the Android phone. Being an avid user of Android, I tested many things on Android but I realized I didn’t know the answer to this question. That’s why I thought I should write about it once I finally found the answer.

Pointer speed: Pointer speed refers to the sensitivity of the screen when you touch the screen and do various activities using your fingers. It’s the same concept of the trackball of the mouse on your PC. Adjusting this speed is essential when you are doing something else apart from regular mobile use.

How to change the pointer speed of an Android phone

android phone

If you are using an Android phone having OS 5.1 Lollipop or higher, here’s how to adjust your pointer speed.

Step 1: The first step is very simple. The process starts with the “Menu” option on the home screen of your smartphone.

Tap on the “Menu” and a list will pop out of it. There you will see an option called “Settings”. Tap on that option.

Once you have tapped on the “settings”, a detailed list that includes a few options will appear in front of you.

Step 2: Select the option called “language and keyboard”. Another screen will appear. Keep scrolling down.

Step 3: An option labeled “pointer speed” will appear. Tap on that and change the sensitivity of the pointer speed.

Note: Pulling the sensitivity to the left decreases the speed while pulling it to the right increases the speed of the pointer.

Remember, 50%- 60% is the optimum for the users. If you are playing a first-person shooter game or FIFA, then you may need to increase the pointer speed to match the environment of the game.

That’s it. Even a novice or beginner can do this without any further help friends. Keep us informed if you hget stuck anywhere.
