Eliades Ochoa is a well known Cuban guitarist and singer. His fame came from being part of Buena Vista Social Club tour and film, which hooked me on Cuban Music. Like Compay Segundo, he is from the Santiago area and brought the Cuban Guajiro country music to the world stage. He played in Toronto’s Luminato Festival with AfroCubism, which included Cuban and African musicians. It was a really great concert. Funny thing is, just arriving from Havana, I must say that the best Cuban music is actually being played in Toronto and possibly New York City.
