Dignity by johnbeckers by johnbeckers

When visiting the US I am always amazed about how american americans are. Proud of their country, values, culture, virtues. As a (typical?) European citizen I hardly know the first sentence of our national anthem, let alone that I cherish pride or patriotism. This may be caused by the many wars that european countries have fought because of a flag or belief. And yet, in front of Washington Monument, it feels good to be here and experience that warm glow within me. Is it the homo universalis that we all carry within us? Or just knowing this is a safe place, far away from politics, religion and quarrels?

FIELDS of TULIPS… by magdaindigo by magdaindigo

Tour of Europe 04 2016

Day 10 ROWS and ROWS, TULIPS
A sea of colour!!!
We eventually find a few flower-fields, after some driving around, we get to the place we spotted.
I am so exited, wanted to photograph fields of tulips, to me: fields of dreams, for so very long.
It’s my dream come true?

Thanx for your visits and comments, M, (*_*)

Aya Sofia by akphotopro by akphotopro

Hagia Sophia or Aya Sofia

Hagia Sophia (from the Greek: “Holy Wisdom”; Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia; Turkish: Ayasofya) is a former Greek Orthodox Christian patriarchal basilica (church), later an imperial mosque, and now a museum (Ayasofya Müzesi) in Istanbul, Turkey. From the date of its construction in 537 AD, and until 1453, it served as an Orthodox cathedral and seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople,[1] except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted by the Fourth Crusaders to a Roman Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire of Constantinople. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1931. It was then secularized and opened as a museum on 1 February 1935 ..
