Sacred Feathers by ericesterle by ericesterle

“Sacred in Native American culture, the bald eagle and the golden eagle are honored with extreme care and shown the deepest of respect. They represent honesty, truth, majesty, strength, courage, wisdom, power and freedom. True masters of the sky, they fly higher and see farther than any other and are believed to have a special connection to God.” – multiple sources.

Perhaps this is why I love to photograph them so much. It’s unlike photographing anything else, and this is when I’m absolutely most at peace in this world! Some people choose to establish and leave “their mark” or “legacy” in their careers, seek money, recognition or fame. That’s not for me, I simply want to photograph and share this amazing world we live in while its species and land are still here and I’m able too.

The sun was setting on the Susquehanna River when I photographed this bald eagle. The fact that I was able to salvage this shot speaks volumes to the dynamic range of today’s cameras. I always shoot full manual and I was shooting in the opposite direction where there was more light, when out of nowhere this amazing bald eagle appeared and I reacted as best I could. Please feel free to share.
