It has always been necessary for me to escape the sights and sounds of humanity and immerse myself in the wild. Even if it is for but a short time, the exposure to wild places, sights, and sounds seem to reinvigorate and renew my mind in a way that nothing else can. It helps to ground me and gets me back to experiencing life in the present and not dwell on the past or look toward the future as often becomes the case in a typical day. John Muir once wrote in his journal “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” I could not agree more.
