Today, I headed out early armed with my camera bag and crossed fingers. The weather has been pretty nondescript of late, but there has been the odd nice sunset. So, as I drove through the country lanes through fog and grey skies, I preyed for a little colour as the sun came up. I was not disappointed.

Some time around 5.30am this morning, as I had just finished setting my camera up, the sun made its entrance and lit the sky up like fire. Looking along the shingle and cobble beach, towards the direction of the sun, the clouds seemed to tear apart and for a moment the sky was bleeding. It was beautiful, with the colour from the sun reflecting on the rocks and the building windows that flanked the beach.

The sky was so bright and apart from a handful of fighting seagulls, I was the only one here to view it. There is something magical about moments like this, when the world is saved for a moment from the throngs of tourists or early morning workers. Something about that moment seems like the world is yours and yours only. It doesn’t last long. Like this beautiful sunrise, the people turned up 10 minutes later and the place began to descend into chaos under grey skies. But I am glad I got to see it and even more glad that I got to take this image.
