Pure Patagonia by ACWaddington by ACWaddington

I call this image ‘Pure Patagonia’ because it’s a simple image requiring almost no processing. The fall color was absolutely perfect, there’s no fake hue / saturation. No exposure blending or focus stacking and certainly no warping or time delay between exposures. It’s a natural image, one that could easily have been shot with a film camera.

Two days prior to taking this image I’d been guiding a couple of clients, one morning was rained off so I offered to take them for an extra day. They asked me to take them to Laguna Torre, which is one of the most popular hikes in Los Glaciers National Park in Argentina. They wanted to hike despite the poor weather forecast. I was fully expecting to have zero visibility on the main peak of Cerro Torre. Imagine my surprise when we discovered that not only could we see the peak, but there was also a gorgeous cloud above. Leaving the guys happily shooting at the lakeshore I took off literally running back up the scree. I never stopped until I made it to my chosen composition. I shot numerous frames from here, some earlier ones had nicer warmth in the cloud, but I chose this version because there was more ambient light allowing an accurate balance of light on both the foreground trees and background.
