Photopills indicated that the sun would set behind that rock in “Pomos” (a one and half hour drive from my home ) and I was there to shoot it. My heart sunk when I saw that the clouds , that were hanging above the area there in the afternoon , disappeared at sunset. I had no other option so I stayed there and hoped for the best. Nikon D800 with Nikon 16.0-35.0 mm f/4.0 , 10 stop ND + 3 stop soft grad ND. Exposure 30,0 sec; f/9; ISO 100 .A single NEF file imported into Light-Room for a straightforward processing. ——————–For the technically minded The Contrast was reduced in PS as following ….. (Ctrl + Alt+ Shift +E) To merge all layers , Ctrl +J to duplicate it , (Alt + Shift + Ctrl + B) To turn the top layer into Black and white , (Ctrl + I) to reverse it , blending mode to Overlay , and adjust the opacity for the effect you are after…usually 5 to 10 percent , I found that in this way you can easily and not destructively control the overall contrast of the image.
