Sycamore gap (From Robin Hood) by jwandrews87 by jwandrews87

A lone Sycamore tree grows in a dramatic dip in the landscape carved out by glacial melt waters flowing under the ice during the last Ice Age. This location was also feature in the 1991 feature film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman. Hadrian’s wall winds its way along the Northumberland landscape and can be seen in the photo heading up each side of the hills. Hadrian’s wall was a defensive structure and the most Northern point in the Roman empire at the time it was built (122AD). It spans from the east coast of Cumbria to West coast Northumberland of Northern England and was granted UNESCO status in 1987
