‘The Milky Mirror’ by MikeyM by MikeyM

After several attempts at shooting the Milky Way over Lake Matheson, last week we finally managed to get the elusive shot.

My goal however, was to shoot the same picture postcard lake that everyone gets at sunset/rise, but with the core rising and reflecting in it’s pristinely tannin-ed waters. Which means not shooting too wide to lose the mountains in the landscape.

This is a frame from a timelapse, shot with a 35mm lens. I just love how the core of the Milky Way dwarfs our tallest mountains, Horokoau Mount Tasman on the left and Aoraki Mount Cook on the right.
