If you want to learn how I process my images, my workflow and lighting techniques.
As you may or may not know, I am not one for working with other people when it comes to photography. I have always preferred to go out, on my own, and spend my time in nature without interruption or conversation. But occasionally, when out taking photos, you bump into someone you really click with and it transforms your time into something much lovelier than if you had spent it in silence.
So as I was standing on the ledge that looks down over the whole of Durdle Door, watching the chav’s destroy the beach with their fires and empty cans of lager, I was ‘interrupted’ by a beautiful girl who I soon learned was of Polish origin. She was one of the happiest, smiliest people I had met and we started talking about photography and other things. Her boyfriend was down at Durdle Door too, and he had disappeared over to the other side to get some images. So this girl and I just chatted, and laughed. As I said earlier, I don’t normally like spending my photography time with other photographers, but I really enjoyed this girls company. She was warm and fun and that is something you rarely find with other image takers. We watched and criticised the idiots that littered the beach, throwing empty beer cans at each other, climbing the rock face and lighting fires. I don’t know what it is about people like that, who feel the need to destroy places of such unbelievable beauty. Surely, if you want to get drunk and start fires, you could do that anywhere. Why do it at a place like Durdle Door? Still, this place has survived the last 100 billion or so years, so I am sure a bunch of yobs won’t scare it much.
By the time we checked our watches, having watched the sun make its full descent behind the distant hills, we had been talking for well over an hour. The majority of people had disappeared, including my new friends boyfriend, and we decided to make our way up the ever steepening hill towards the car park. By the time we got there, we were both out of breath and we said our goodbyes. For the first time in a while, I actually enjoyed the company of another photographer. She made me smile, made me laugh and having since checked out her portfolio, she is one hell of a good photographer.
