A CANAL VIEW… BRUGGE by magdaindigo by magdaindigo

Tour of Europe 04 2016

Day 12

Looking toward Jan van Eyckplein from a canal boat in Bruges.
No matter how many times I take this tour, I find it a great way to see Brugge, a different, unique perspective.
Here is the Spiegelrei on the left and the Spinolarei on the right, in Bruges, the capital and largest city of the West Flanders province in the Flemish Region of Belgium. The square is named for noted Northern Renaissance painter Jan van Eyck, of whom you see the statue here, surrounded by beautiful Renaissance buildings.

I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*)

From the architect. The old farmhouse was rebuilt and expanded for several times in the last decades.

At the beginning of the design the architects had to check which parts of the building are original and worth to preserve.

Only the oldest part of the farmhouse which its region typical simple typology was preserved.  The existing extensions were broken off or adapted.

All newer parts of the farmhouse were covered homogeneous with roughly sawn spruces so it¥s clearly visually separated from the original farmhouse.
