6 Things You Shouldn’t Stress Out About

We live in a society where, ideally, we would love everything to run smoothly and perfectly but when it doesn’t, we freak out. We do. We yell or cry or throw things, sometimes temper tantrums, we call everyone we know and frantically explain to them that life, as you know, it has crumbled to the ground and there’s nothing you can do about it. And that’s only because the car didn’t start today. There are many things you shouldn’t stress out about. The car not starting is only a small example.

From work to family, many things in our lives are triggers to stress. Some things we actually can control, others, not so much. So what do we do about the things we can’t control? Let them go, really. So what are some of the things we shouldn’t stress about that we probably are anyway?

ego_super_ego1. Your appearance.

Many people fret over their weight, their skin, the size of their nose, their grey hair or wrinkles. We all want to be picture perfect. You are already. You are perfect and beautiful just the way you are. Why do so many of us desperately try to make ourselves look like something we’re not to try to be better looking? Plastic surgery, Botox, fillers. You can’t fix perfection, which is what you are.

2. Do they like me?

Who cares? You should like you. If you don’t like you how do you think other people are going to like you (even though you really shouldn’t stress about that anyway). Like and love yourself first. The rest will fall into place and you will attract the right people to like and love you.

3. Will I fit it?

Why would even want to? None of us are born to fit in. We are here to stand out and make a difference. A big difference. Hard to do that if you are too busy stressing about how to fit in. We want people to like us and accept us but why do we change who we are for that to happen? They won’t be liking the true you, then. They will be liking or accepting a modified version of the real you, which is never successful in the end.

4. I failed.

No you didn’t. There is no such thing as failure. You had a vision, you brought it to life, you learned many things along the way and in the end, the vision was put to rest. The end. There is no failure here. You won’t know what you can or can’t do unless you attempt something new. Keep at it.

5. Do I have enough money?

Are you still doing the stress over money thing? the more you stress about it the more you will have less money. Let that go. Remember the universe hears everything you say and operates at the same vibrational level you do. The more you stress about not having enough money, the longer it will keep you in that zone. Do yourself a favour. Open to receive from now on.

6. Trying to please everyone.

Stop that right now. You won’t. No matter how hard you try. You will not succeed which will result in even more stress for you. Please yourself first. Never mind anyone else. When they see you are happy, then they will be happy too. Or not. Who cares? It’s not up to us to make everyone happy. It’s up to us to make us happy. Everyone else can work on making themselves happy. That’s not your job.

We should all learn to just relax, enjoy life and be who we are without trying to conform or mold ourselves into what society wants us to be to fit in. Stand out, be you, be happy and embrace your uniqueness. There is no one better at being you than you. Chill out.

This 600 square foot summer cottage is a guest cabin and owner’s retreat. Perched high on a granite ridge, the cabin has panoramic views of high latitude forest and lake Saimaa in Eastern Finland. The property has been a summer holiday destination for the client for the past 30 years. The brief was to create a new space that can house extended family and also serve a purpose when visiting with smaller groups.

The double height living room pulls the outside in with over-sized operable windows on the north and south. The living room is a voluminous indoor/outdoor space that shelters you from the elements and mosquitoes while allowing you to enjoy the breeze and warmth of the sun. This main space connects to a loft through a slotted floor. The whimsical loft feels like a tree house; it is a perfect place to hide and read a book. Generously sized bedrooms bookend the living space to the east and west, each with a picture window to the site.

High care was taken to preserve the beauty of the site. The window assemblies and logs were manufactured off site and lofted into place with a crane. The materials palette blends with the natural surroundings. The vertical screening filters light and echoes the tall nature of the forest. Wooden walkways follow the contours of the landscape, providing a path to the cabin while keeping the surrounding nature untouched.

The design combines old ways with new technologies. The main structure is made of pine logs, like many traditional structures in Finland. In contrast to cozy and dark log cabins, the new cabin is voluminous and filled with light. The exterior is treated with iron oxide, a treatment which accelerates the natural graying process of wood. The vertical screening is strategically located on the west, south, and east facades where sun exposure is the highest. The screening is like a protective coat, it is removable and replaceable. The interior of the cabin reveals the untreated pine log walls and bare roof rafters. The gable roof form and log walls are common in Finnish cabins, while the details, volume, and quality of light are unexpected.

The cabin combines traditional forms and materials with contemporary systems and details to create an instantly recognisable summer cabin that is functionally and aesthetically modern.

This residential complex consists of five 26-storey buildings arranged in a checkerboard pattern on top of a multi-storey underground car park. This configuration of volumes of identical shape and height has made it possible to create a system of semi-enclosed inner courtyards between the blocks. The main entrances to the buildings face the courtyards and take the form of stately portals.

The complex’s architectural image combines a memorable contribution to the city’s skyline with finely detailed façades made from ceramic tiles in different colours. Each building has façades of unique design involving the use of glazed ceramic surfaces of various colours and textures.

Each tower contains studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments with floor areas of between 39 and 97 sqm. The ground floors of the buildings contain all necessary infrastructure, including social facilities such as a kindergarten, a fitness club, cafes and restaurants, and household services.

The decoration of the complex’s entrance areas makes use of drawings from Sergei Tchoban’s City and Water series. Executed in different years and in different cities, the drawings study the drama of the interaction between architecture and aquatic space. The architect and client together selected a total of 15 works (three for each entrance area), which were then digitally printed on glass. According to the architects, this gives each of the staircases its own distinctive character while also exploring the significance of the complex’s name.

Researchers from Leiden University have been studying how open-monitoring meditation with focused attention can help to improve a person’s creativity after. What they found was interesting. They discovered that those who practiced open-monitoring meditation performed much better on a specific task when they were assigned to come up with any new ideas.

Meditation has been known to increase and encourage the type of thinking known as divergent thinking, which allows you to come up with the biggest number of solutions to any given problem, another component of creativity.

Decrease Anxiety Levels

Meditation has also been shown to decrease the anxiety levels in those who practice it regularly. When we are meditating we begin to loosen the connections of certain neural pathways.

A section of our brain called the medial prefrontal cortex processes the information that we relate to our experience and ourselves. Typically, the neural pathways from fear and bodily sensations to this section of the brain are strong. Therefore, when you are in a scary situation, this will trigger a very strong reaction in that portion of your brain, which in turn makes you feel anxious and unsettled.

When you do meditate, you will weaken this connection, which will allow you to react differently to the same situations. Another added benefit to weakening this connection is you will now give strength to the Assessment Center of your brain, which is known for its reasoning. Therefore, you will be better able to respond calmly to potentially nerve-wrecking situations.

Those who practice meditation are better able to filter out distractions and increase productivity. This ability to ignore background distractions helps one quickly remember and use new facts.

Improve Relationships

Meditation also boosts your mood and leaves you with a better sense of connection to other people. This helps to make you more compassionate and empathetic to others. Whether you are looking to improve your relationship with your significant other or connect more to your employees and clients, meditation may be the answer.

Aid in Health Conditions

Many studies have shown that just by meditating you may be able to decrease your blood pressure if you suffer from hypertension. Additionally, those with respiratory illnesses such as the flu have been able to recover more quickly than those who did not meditate. Women who suffer from menopause may find relief from meditation as well.

Promote Better Sleep

Meditation has proven beneficial in its ability to help promote better sleep quantity and quality. While establishing a good bedtime routine and getting the best air purifier help, adding in some mindfulness meditation may help to give you a better quality of sleep and fight the symptoms associated with insomnia such as fatigue and depression.

On top of better sleep, you may be able to increase the quality and occurrence of your intimate life. When this occurs, we release the stress hormone cortisol as well as adrenaline to help us fight the stress. What this does is increase your blood pressure and suppress our immune system and another person caught in the crossfire, our libido.

You may be a bit overwhelmed and think there is no possible way you can include meditating into your already busy life. However, the good news is, you can! Start out with only five minutes each day. You can squeeze in your mindfulness before breakfast or before you get ready for work. When you get more comfortable with your meditation, you can then begin to increase the length of your sessions over time.

If we consider the whole street as a lively symphony that mesmerizes people with its rapidly rhythm, then the house would be a rest creating that small but soulful gap, just enough for people to drown  into the life’s melody.

The house in a typical Hanoi alley was designed for a young man who have just came back to hometown after  a long time living abroad. He wanted a house with private space but also open, a place where he can have some nice relaxing time and a place he can share with friends as a peaceful hideout. This client also has a best friend living with – his dog, so this house must be a friendly space for the dog, must have a garden for both to enjoy nature.

Based on the needs of the client and the location of site plan, the architect offered a free and open design, all the boundaries of functions are disappeared. The house is quiet but open – a small house with just enough of everything.

In a crowded and busy city like Hanoi, people take advantage of every single area they have. This house and its garden stand humbly among all the blocks of raising buildings. Instead of using all the land or keeping a indoor space for ourselves, the house stands back to offer the whole alley a green space, a small but precious gap in a ‘inch of land is an ounce of gold’ urban. Front gate is built by alternated bricks which created the sparse fence separated the house from the street but at the same time shared the green space with neighbors.

The plan area is only 40 sqm. Inside, the whole space is connected even when there are no walls to fixed the functions for any space. Light and ventilations are bringed into the house in general and particulary for each space. The architect chose  natural and rustic materials for the house to bring the close and comfortable feelings, but still quality for a simple lifestyle.
