Apostle Island National Lakeshore in Wisconsin features a combination of spectacular natural beauty and rich cultural history.

The Ojibwe call Madeline Island “Moningwunakauning” or “Home of the golden-breasted woodpecker.” Photo by Michael DeWitt (www.sharetheexperience.org)
