What Do Insurance Brokers Do for You?

Buying insurance is an expensive but necessary purchase. Because the rates are often high for good insurance coverage, it can be tempting to purchase it directly from the insurance company, skipping the middleman insurance broker. However, insurance brokers will tell you it’s best to make use of their services.

What do insurance brokers do? Why is it better to have one? Read on and find out.

1. Brokers will help assess insurance needs

insurance assistance

Customers purchasing insurance have different types of properties and different coverage needs. Whether the insurance is for a property, vehicle, business or other piece of personal property, there are a lot of variables in buying insurance.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

While these options are available to any potential buyers online or in hard copy, it can take a lot of time and effort to sift through all of the possibilities with little prior experience. This is where a broker can assist.

Not only are brokers knowledgeable about policies, coverage and exceptions, but they are also much faster at pointing customers in the direction that is best suited to their needs. Customers who need special services or unique changes to their policies often find that brokers are able to make these adjustments much more quickly and easily than the customers attempting to directly contact the insurance companies.

2. Brokers will obtain quotes and policy comparisons

Along with finding the right insurance plans, brokers are able to quickly and easily get quotes and make policy comparisons. Direct customers are able to make similar appraisals, but they often do not have the same software access that provides clear associations. Brokers are also sometimes able to find ways to combine different types of insurance to provide comprehensive coverage for reduced rates.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

In addition, the quotes that brokers are able to offer may be significantly lower than the direct sales cost. Brokers are typically provided with special pricing by insurance companies because the companies trust the brokers.

Professionally trained brokers will properly insure their customers, helping the insurance save money by avoiding unnecessary claims. This savings is then passed on to the customers through the brokers’ quotes.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

3. Brokers will explain terms, conditions and the fine print

Insurance policies can be difficult to understand. There are typically many pages of terms and conditions, often followed by exceptions and exclusions. A customer who purchases any plan will have access to that policy’s terms.

However, sometimes it becomes necessary to get assistance in understanding all the legal language. An insurance broker is trained to read these documents and explain them in everyday words that make the conditions clear to all customers. These clarifications can help customers prevent filing incorrect claims and avoid misunderstanding coverage.

4. Brokers can make policy changes as needed

Life situations can require unexpected changes in insurance coverage. For example, an insurance customer might buy a new house, change marital status or sell a car. A direct sales customer can make these adjustments himself or herself by contacting the insurance’s customer service department but this can often require time on telephone hold and frustration from the customer.

In contrast, a broker is able to handle the headaches that often come from making these changes on behalf of the customer.

5. Brokers can provide assistance during a claim or settlement

When it comes time to file an insurance claim or to face a settlement, brokers can be a bridge between the insurance company and the customer. Brokers act as the customer’s voice, making sure that the claims are handled quickly and fairly.

When customers have questions about how to proceed with the claim, the broker can answer them. All claims can be handled by the customer himself or herself, but the broker can be very helpful throughout the process.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

6. Brokers can provide peace of mind

peace of mind

Although many of these decisions can be handled directly by the customer, an insurance broker has the training to fully educate, answer questions and provide services in dealing with insurance companies and policies. While direct customers may stress over the details without anyone helping them through the process, brokers provide customers with the peace of mind of knowing that there is little risk with the broker’s assistance.

In addition, insurance brokers are able to provide a high level of security for personal data. They are tasked with remaining discreet and maintaining confidential files for all of their customers. Although direct sales through insurance companies are secure, working with a real-life person often feels safer than entering personal data into a computer or offering it over the telephone.

Many brokers will answer policy questions and offer quotes over the telephone, but it is typically better to speak to them face to face so that there are no forgotten details or misunderstandings. There are benefits to both methods of buying insurance. In the end, deciding whether or not to use an insurance broker is a personal and individual choice.

Use This Strategy to Never Hit The Snooze Button Again

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Hitting snooze on your morning alarm (again) is probably the worst thing you can do to start your day. Why? I’ve identified 4 main reasons:

First, by going back to sleep for another 10 minutes, you will actually feel more tired and groggy than when the initial alarm went off.

Second, you start your day with an utter and complete failure. You literally show yourself that you’ve got no self-discipline whatsoever. Not a very motivating and empowering start to the day, is it?

Third, you are already stressed out. It feels like you have to rush through your morning in the search of those lost minutes the snooze button stole from you. Feelings of calm, peace, and confidence are nowhere to be found.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Fourth, you are feeling guilty for hitting the snooze button. You are probably beating yourself up over it and building up a lot of negative energy at the start of the day.

//c.amazon-adsystem.com/aax2/getads.js

alarm clock

Indeed, hitting the snooze button sucks. So here’s the #1 strategy that will make sure you never fall prey to it ever again:

(Note: Having an alarm clock without a snooze button doesn’t count if you just manually “snooze” by setting the alarm to 10 minutes later!)

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

The simple strategy that can kill your snooze button addiction is called Implementation Intentions.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Implementation intentions are plans that take the form of if/then statements. They simply pre-determine how you will act in a future situation. The “IF” stands for the cue and the “THEN” stands for your pre-decided response to that cue.

“If [this happens], then [I will do that].”

You are essentially deciding in advance how you will act in a future situation. In our case, that situation is when the alarm clock goes off – we want to pre-decide that we get out of bed and don’t hit the snooze button.

The implementation intentions look like this:

“If the alarm clock wakes me up in the morning, then I immediately get out of bed!”
“If I’m thinking of hitting snooze, then I get out of bed right away anyway!”

We decide beforehand that we’re not going to hit the snooze button.

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Now you may be wondering, “What’s the point of this? That certainly isn’t going to change anything, is it?” Well, actually it is going to change everything. It certainly turned me from snooze-button addict to someone who hasn’t hit snooze in over a year.

alarm clock off

You see, implementation intentions are surprisingly powerful. They have been PROVEN in almost one hundred scientific studies to have a strong impact on our behaviors. In this case the behavior would be NOT hitting the snooze button.

Here’s one study that will hopefully convince you of using this strategy. Twenty drug addicts committed to writing a résumé before 5pm of the same day.  Why a resume? The staff in the hospital encouraged the drug addicts to write out their resumes in order to find work after the end of the treatment.

There were 2 groups:

Group 1: They drew up implementation intentions for achieving the goal. They pre-determined when and where they would write the résumé.
Group 2: They made no plans for achieving their goal whatsoever.

The results: At 5pm, none of the people in the 2nd group had written the résumé. Not a single one. What about the guys who created implementation intentions? Get this: 8 of them had written the résumé.

My point is, implementation intentions work. They will work for you, too. So here’s what I suggest you do: Write down the two previously mentioned implementation intentions and read them every night before going to bed. Of course, you can add your own variations as well.

8 Things To Remember About Success

Success means different things to all of us. Many of us still believe that we have to work really hard to be a success. Others make sure that their children work really hard at school in order to become a success. For some, success is a high paying, high ranking, suit and tie position. What does success mean to you? Is it money, status quo, assets? Fame and fortune? There are many things that make up success and what it stands for.

Before you put yourself in the failure category or the unsuccessful one, let’s have a look at a few things you should remember about success. This should put things in perspective for you and hopefully make you feel a tad more optimistic about your life if for any reason, you don’t feel you are successful.

the_attitude_that_guarantees_successIt’s not about money.

Success really doesn’t have to be all about what’s in your bank account. Having a 5 or 6 figure balance in your savings account doesn’t necessarily mean you are successful it just means you have lots of money saved. If you don’t have a huge savings account that doesn’t mean you aren’t successful either. Money really has very little to do with success for some.

You have nothing to prove to anyone.

If you feel like you aren’t successful and are afraid family or friends will think you are a failure, stop right now. What anyone thinks of you is none of your business and often has nothing to do with you. you aren’t here to prove anything to anyone but yourself. If there is a part of your life where you feel you have succeeded, then that’s good enough.

There are no medals at the end.

So many work so hard to try to achieve super success status only to realize there are no medals, no awards and even if there are, often the novelty wears off after a while anyway, only to discover they worked so hard and missed out on a lot of life. Don’t kill yourself trying to a success story. In the end, it’s not worth it.

State of happiness is success too.

If you are happy with your job, your family, your life and everything in general, you have reached success. You don’t have to be rich or have a famous spouse or anything to that effect. Happiness is success. Somewhere along the way, you reached a point where life is good.

If you lose it, you can have it back.

Let’s just say, by some slim chance, something happened and you lost everything that signified success to you. It’s ok. Any step back is only temporary. As long as you check yourself, see what went wrong, pick up the pieces and start back up again, you are going to be ok. Everything is temporary.

Keep your ego at bay.

So let’s say you are financially successful. Don’t be a mean successful person. There are many. Money and greed have consumed them and they no longer know compassion or what it’s like to be a caring person. Don’t let that happen to you. Stay true to who you are and who you were before you became financially successful.

Lift others up.

Being successful wasn’t handed to you and probably was a lot of hard work. There were probably a handful of people that helped you achieve your success, in whatever method you have it. Don’t forget to help others too. We all start somewhere and we all need a helping hand. Pay it forward.

Be grateful.

Don’t take your success for granted. Remember to always to be grateful for all you have and how you get there. Also don’t forget the hard work it took to get there and the people who helped you get there. No matter what, be in a state of gratitude. Always.

Success is a beautiful thing but so is gratitude and appreciation. Enjoy your success with an open heart, open arms and an open mind.

One Question To Ask Before Comparing Yourself To Others

Have you ever compared yourself to someone else? Definitely!

If your answer is “No” to this question, then it means two things: either you are lying or you are not a human. Sorry.

Millions of years ago our ancestors compared themselves to their tribe members   and   adjusted   their   actions   accordingly   in   order   to   be accepted and approved by other members of the tribe. If they had not acted like this, they would have been excluded from the tribe to face hunger and life or death situations at every step all by themselves. Hence, the natural instinct of comparing one’s actions with those of others served our ancestors to stay in tribes and survive.

compareAlthough   in   the   modern   world   we   do   not  have   to   worry   about   our survival as often as our ancestors did, we do need to acknowledge the fact that comparing oneself to others is wired into human brain and remains part of our human nature. The problem, however, arises when we get obsessed with comparing almost everything we are, we do or we have with what others are, have and do.

Furthermore, while comparing ourselves to others, we tend to forget a very significant fact:

Each person starts different.

Let’s assume that your dream is to become a renowned actress. You work your way hard, trying to hone your artistic skills to get that dream role  in  the  theater.  But  you  see  Mary who  has brilliant  artistic   skills getting that role. Then you beat yourself up for not being able to reach such   a   high   standard   in   spite   of   your   hard   work.   You   keep   on underestimating   you   own   talent,   skills,   and   the   progress   you   have made so far as an actress. You are almost ready to give up. But wait… Do you know that Mary, the amazing actress that got your dream-role comes   from   a   family,   where   both   of   her   parents   are   from   theater industry, while none of yours are?

Since   childhood Mary   has   been   engaged   in   conversations   with   the most brilliant minds of the theater world and had a chance to learn from the most prominent actors, playwrights, directors and producers you could only dream to meet in your entire life. This does not at all
imply that she did not work hard, but the fact that the environment she was raised in paved the way for her artistic excellence is undeniable.While you had to spend long hours of hard work all by yourself and make  a  number   of  sacrifices   to   make   your   way   to   the theater,   the actress that got your dream role had an amazing advantage of picking up the brains of the great minds of theater industry at tea-table at her parents’ home without any obvious sacrifices.

Bringing such  an example, I do not at all advocate for giving up on your dream if you are not lucky enough to have been raised in in the right   environment. Not at all. I simply suggest that rather than comparing yourself to every other person who is doing better than you or seems to have what you dream of having, just pause. Pause and consider that no two human beings start the same. It is like comparing two runners whose starting points are different and tell the winner based on the fact who crossed the finish-line first. Instead, you should consider the starting point for each runner or the amount of time it took each of them to reach the finish.

The idea here is that one person may take a particular thing for granted in his/her life, for another person it may take years or even decades to acquire the same thing. And how on earth can you compare these people?

You can’t and you shouldn’t.

Period. Similarly, when you witness someone achieving big success in life and you are ready to call them “lucky”, pause and reflect. Do you have any idea on what it took that person to achieve success? Do you know what that  person has gone through to be where s/he is today? Most probably, you do not.

Let’s now imagine John, a college student who had a big dream to start his own business. However, his family background was far from entrepreneurship. He had always been taught by his wonderful parents to study hard so that he could find a well-paid job. John was all alone in the  pursuit  of his dream, he  did not have  much understanding and support from his social circle and there was no one who could guide John in his entrepreneurial journey. While most of his classmates were busy taking selfies, fooling around or partying, John had to study   long   hours   to   accumulate business knowledge, work on a part time job to sustain himself and chase investors to believe in his dream. Yes, the path was challenging and full of sacrifices, but there came a moment when John was in his beautiful office, giving an interview about the successful company he had established.

For some people there is only one explanation to a person’s success: “S/he is just lucky”. Still, they   do not even have the slightest idea about how many obstacles s/he had to overcome, how hard s/he had to work and how strongly s/he   believed in their dream in order to become LUCKY!

These two examples may seem contradictory; in the first scenario Mary achieves success because of the luck of being raised in the right environment, and in the second scenario John achieves his dream because of the hard work that most people have no idea about.

The idea is that in most cases you do not know the story behind someone else’s achievements, what you know and know for sure is your own story. As the popular advice goes, “Mind your business”. I would add, “Mind your own story”. You don’t have anything to do with anybody’s life.

Comparisons constantly make us alienate from ourselves, look outside, rather than within and seek happiness in being better than someone else.  When comparing ourselves to others, we tend to ignore our own talents and underestimate all the progress we have made so far in our lives.

Instead, our only  concern should be to  acknowledge where we are now in our life journey   compared to where we started from, and never compared to where another person is. Too many of us put ourselves in the danger of forgetting our own life, wasting our precious time on what  others are doing and  living by the standards that others have made for us. The next time your natural instinct will tell you to compare yourself with someone else or be jealous for someone’s success, just ask yourself the question “Do you know the story behind?”

7 Simple Ways You Can Be A Helper Too

We all want to change the world but we wonder how. What special skills do you have that will make a difference? Often we think we are nobody special and there isn’t anything we can do to help or change the world. This is where you’re wrong. Each and every one of us has unique gifts and talents that no one else has. What you think is nothing someone else might think is fantastic.

So you don’t think you can make a difference? You think the world is too big for you to make a dent in its progress to global peace? Think again. Below are just a few things you can to do make a difference that will be greatly appreciated by many, much more than you think.
Donate old clothes and household items. Instead of selling them and trying to make a profit, why not donate them to a shelter? There are many people in need who can’t afford to shop in second hand stores. They need help too. Holding a yard sale or selling old things to make money is financially smart but when you just give them away, from the heart, exceptional abundance will find you.

generosityGive someone a smile.

The one person you just smiled at might have been on his/her way to making rash decisions based on their state. When a stranger smiles at me, I think it’s the nicest and simplest thing that anyone can do that is guaranteed to brighten up my day. They don’t know if I was already sad or happy or hurt or angry but they instantly just made me smile back. Your smile will brighten someone’s day and give them faith in humanity.

Say hello to strangers.

Saying hello to a stranger does many things. First it makes them smile. Second this person may be looking for some company or someone to talk to and you may well be this person. Thirdly, you just may be the only person who gave them any attention or showed them kindness today, simply by saying hello. Some people live alone and could go days without talking to anyone. By you saying hello, you just gave them the gift of human interaction and probably made their day.

Buy a homeless person a coffee.

Simple but still so few people do it. next time you are at a coffee shop grabbing your latte express and a muffin, grab one for the guy sitting across the street who looks like he hasn’t eaten in days. He may even like a bottle of water or a sandwich. Really they don’t care what you give them, they are just happy you noticed them and are kind enough to do something for them.

Pitch in.

Garbage is all over. Too many people don’t use the trash can and aren’t teaching their children to use it. Imagine if each and every one of us did that? The whole world would be clean. You can do your part. Use the garbage and if you come across someone who just threw their trash on the ground, speak up. It’s your right, it’s your world too. It’s up to each and every one of us to educate.

Give a hug.

Though there are still a few people who don’t like their personal space invaded, there are more than enough who crave human attention and affection. Give hugs. They are free and fun. People love hugs. If you’re not sure, ask first. If they say no, a gentle touch on the shoulder, or a small rub on the back will make them feel good too. Any of this will warm our heart and make us feel special and let’s face it, we all really want to feel special anyway.

Bring some flowers.

Do you know a lonely old senior who rarely has visitors who still lives in their own home? Or maybe they need help with things around the house or they simply want company. Go see them. bring them flowers or if it’s a man, maybe a pie or some other treats. Lonely seniors love company and treats. They love treats.

It’s so easy to make the world a happier place. it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg and it’s the little things that no one thinks of doing that make the biggest difference in someone’s life. Go be a world changer.

7 Shitty Reasons You Keep Using To Not Better Your Life

We all want a better life. Ok well maybe those of us who don’t have a good life now would like a better one and lucky are those who already have one that wouldn’t trade it in for anything. Let’s not use the word luck here though. Surely luck had nothing to do with these people having an ideal life. They worked hard at it, or they manifested it. Either way. They have a great life and you can have that life too.

So why don’t you already have a great life anyway? What’s keeping you from having the life you deserve? You may not like this but the only thing preventing you from having that life is the stories you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t have it.  the stories, the excuses, the reasons, the limiting beliefs, the lies. Call them what you want but they all mean the same thing. Here are a few that may be holding you back and I’m telling you it’s time to change your story.

better_life2It’s the way I was raised.

Ok, so we understand you weren’t raised in ideal conditions. You’re not there anymore though. You are an adult now, a grown up. Free to make your own decisions and be your own person. You’re not that child anymore growing up in that dysfunctional household. You are free to make decisions to change and improve your life any way you can. If that’s what you want of course.

I’m too scared.

Of course. Fear is a bitch. No one likes it and it has the power to keep us trapped in a really shitty life. It’s easier to stay in the life we’ve created than to change it.  Fear is like a punch in the gut. The minute you start thinking about making some major changes, pow, you get punched in the gut. Punch back. Tell fear to go away, you got this and you can do it, which leads us to the next one.

I can’t do this.

Why not? That’s a limiting belief. A story you keep telling yourself. It could very well stem from childhood or from fear. One thing you must remember, you can do anything you want whenever you want. If you don’t know how to do something, learn how to do it. it may not be easy and it may not be quick but it’s not impossible. If you want something bad enough, you will figure out a way to do it, including changing your life.

They will laugh at me/think I am stupid.

Who’s they and who cares? Still so many people make decisions based on what other people will think of them. We need to stop doing this and start remembering this our life and we are the only ones to live it. and if they laugh? Who cares. Let them. they are only laughing because their insecurities bring out that emotion in them. It’s a nervous embarrassed reaction to their own lack of ambition.

What if I fail?

Oh but darling, what if you fly? Have you ever seen that quote? Many of us won’t do or try something for fear of failure. You aren’t going to fail. In life there is no failing. We grow, we learn, we evolve and we keep moving forward. There is no option to fail. No matter what you do, it won’t be wrong. The only wrong thing would be to not try. You have got to keep growing.

I don’t know how.

Yes, you do. Everything you need is inside of you already. All the answers you need are at your fingertips. All you have to do is ask or seek. But we don’t. We tell ourselves we don’t know how. I’m scared, I don’t know how. That’s the shittiest lamest excuse ever. Figure it out. You’re a smart cookie. If you want answers bad enough, you’ll find them. How big is your why?

Fear of success.

This actually is a thing. So many people are actually afraid of success. They have never had it, they don’t know what it tastes, looks or smells like. What if they actually get it? Then what? How do successful people act? What are they supposed to do? Go and get it and then you tell me.

There is nothing easy about changing your life. Nothing. But the rewards are worth it. Go out on that limb. Take a chance on you and your new life. You are worth it.

Here’s How to Get Creativity Bursting Out of Your Eyeballs

You don’t need me to tell you how important creativity is. Suffice to say that if you want to compete in the modern workforce you can’t afford to be robotic. People who think like robots are being replaced by… robots. Fortunately, I’m a creative genius and I’m here to teach you to be more like me.

Commence the listicle!

1 – Unleash the Awesome Power of Boredom

1992, summer. 24 years before Pokemon Go put the final nail in boredom’s coffin. I’m in the back garden trying to find something fun to do with my brother. We’ve played soccer and tennis for hours. The magic is gone.

‘This is so boring…’ he laments, thrashing a daisy with a twig.

He’s not wrong. ‘Have we still got that swing tennis set?

});
//]]>

Swing tennis? That’s so last year.’

He was right again – swing tennis was as out of style as ’The Bartman’. We needed something fresh, something that fit the 1992 gestalt. I sighed and looked around.

For some reason there was a mattress behind the trashcan. ‘What if…’ I said slowly, ‘we propped that up against the wall… Use this trashcan lid as a shield… Right, you try and hit the mattress with the ball and I’ll defend it.’

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

‘The soccer ball or the tennis ball?’

‘Oh, definitely both at the same time.’

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

‘How do we know I’ve hit the mattress?’

’When this frisbee falls off.’

And that’s how we created Ultraball 3000, the best sport ever. It gave us many, many hours of fun.

There’s something magical that can happen when you stop shoving input into your brain. Recent research shows that boredom stimulates creative centers in the brain, lets people make new connections, and promotes creative output.

But how often are we truly bored any more?

There are more than 600,000 games in the Apple Store available to play any time, day or night. From anywhere in the world, you can call up the complete works of Arthur Conan Doyle, learn Spanish, or stalk your ex-boyfriend. There’s a reason Archimedes had his Eureka moment in the bath – he had nothing to do except sit and soak, and his brain was free to roam. And there’s a reason the subreddit where people share interesting ideas they’ve had is called ‘shower thoughts’ – because the shower is one of the only places kids these days don’t bring their phone.

So if you want to get more creative, you’ve got to get away from your smartphone. Hide it in a drawer and get yourself so bored it hurts.

2 – Annihilate Your Inner Critic by Joining Nanowrimo

Worry about what people think of your ideas?

Ptsch! When’s the last time THEY had a good idea? These are the people who rejected Harry Potter, said the iPhone would never take off, and passed on The Beatles.

So the only critic you should really take any notice of is YOU. You’re a perfectionist who never finishes anything because what you’ve done doesn’t match your expectations. Your hard drive is bursting with unfinished projects. Your brain shoots down ideas before you’ve even finished having them.

That’s why you should sign up to the National Novel Writing Month. You have to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Think about that for a second. 50,000 words.

You have NO time to edit. NO time to listen to your doubts. You HAVE to press ahead.

And what happens? First, you finish something. That’s important enough.

But also, you realise those doubting voices in your head are much less present. You’re much more likely to act on your ideas, whether good or bad. And you find that some of your bad ones aren’t so bad after all…

3 – Stay Silly

Have you ever noticed that kids are way more creative than adults? You’ve probably heard a child explaining some mental drawing they’ve just scrawled. ‘This is the wizard and those are cabbages and he’s got a cat which is also the moon.’ Don’t worry – that kid will have every spark of creativity snuffed out and stamped on by their parents, teachers, and the rest of society soon enough.

But you can learn from those little tykes! Risk-taking, silliness, and playfulness come second nature to children, and that’s why they have no problem being creative.

Create a throwaway Reddit account and join the joke-telling and story-writing subreddits. Think up some awful puns, post some late-night Harry Potter fan fiction. Get weird with it! It’s just an outlet for you to get in touch with your inner child, so don’t worry about what reception you’ll get.

4 – Enjoy the Process, Not the Outcome

Getting hung up on how many words you’ve written or how much people like your writing/jokes/business ideas is a sure way to stop your creative synapses firing. When I had some writing homework in school, I’d get a couple of cookies, lie on the floor kicking my legs, and write. The cookies made sure I was in a good frame of mind.

When I was a bit older and had ‘outgrown’ cookies, I sat at my desk feeling serious and wrote serious things in a serious way. And writing became agony and I learned to hate it.

Fortunately one of those ‘circle of life’ things happened and now I’m back to working while surrounded by treats (but not too much! See section 5). If this post gets 5 Facebook shares or 1.2 million LinkedIn views I’ll be equally content. Because as soon as I’ve finished typing this last sentence I’m going to sit in my massage chair and eat cheesecake.

5- Mindful Eating

Pizza, ice cream, cheesecake and tons of coffee. All wonderful stuff while you’re masticating but you know what happens after. You get drowsy, foggy, and turn right into a hibernating panda. Bad food does that to us.

In contrast, healthy food choices are guaranteed to keep you more awake and bursting with energy and ideas. Apart from the usual diet of protein, complex carbohydrates, and essential fatty acids, try superfoods like maca, ginseng, bee pollen, coconut oil, and green tea.

If you can’t get to these in their raw form, you can try adding them into your daily intake via food supplements. For when you need a short burst of focus and concentration (like before an exam or a big presentation), you could try a smart drug. There’s more info on this fast-growing industry in my bio.

Right, pep talk over. You know everything you need to know. Get to it!
