This was one of the most weird and moody skies I came across this year. I knew the exact location of the setting sun but I did not expect the sky to be full of dust resulting in an almost surreal sunset. I was walking up and down the beach trying to find an interesting rock formation when my wife called me after seeing this two piles of seaweed lying there with a clean pass to the sea. I had to remove the rubber feet of the tripod so as to let the spikes “bite” into the seaweed bed and get a steady platform for the camera. A single raw file with the Nikon D800 and Nikon 14-24mm @14mm + Nisi filters (10 stop + 3 stop soft grad) + wireless remote. Exposure was 30,0 sec; f/8; ISO 200. ————A straightforward post process in Camera raw . The only Photoshop “touch” was to use a curves adjustment tool and push the highlights up with the mid tones masked taken from a luminosity mask in order to enhance the highlights without affecting mid-tones. We made pictures of this supercell for over four hours and we nearly didn’t move. We got tons of pictures of its different stages and tornados with an amazing final after dark lightning display.
This shot was made just after it dropped the first tornado of the day.
Lightnings were very frequent at this time and the cell was rotating like crazy.
Experienced strong inflow winds which reached 60mph at some time which made it very difficult to keep our cameras clean.
This was an incredible day of storm photography.
