This is actually post sunset. My friends Jason Brownlee and Matthew Grimes and I were getting some shots of the sunset and I had put my camera away until we noticed the color coming back just as it was getting dark.
Well, I pulled my camera back out and took a couple more shots. 😀
The Alvord Desert is Oregon’s Death Valley. In the wet Winter months it turns into a huge but shallow lake but as Spring and Summer approaches it dries up and leaves a huge, flat mud playa, solid in places yet deceivingly so in places where the mud is hidden just under the surface. It’s always wise to be aware there while driving, but with that being said if you have ever wanted to open up the throttle on your Subaru, this is the place to do it. 😀 You can pretend that you’re at the Bonneville Salt Flats breaking a world land speed record. 😀 lol
The area is hot in the Summer, and shade is rare so beware and be prepared if you plan to go and visit… but please go visit. You drive through some amazing country to get there as well.
