Questions by dss1960 by dss1960

I asked myself the question “Do I really care about others? What reputation do I want for myself? Do I want to be known as a friend, someone who respects and values others? Or do I want to be known as someone who thinks only of himself?”

I determined to go out and be that friend who cares, who respects, who shows dignity toward others. Then I hit traffic during morning rush hour. Some idiot cut in front of me on a red light, making juvenile faces as she drove past. Another car had a bumper sticker of a middle finger waving in my face. I found myself cursing other drivers and hating humanity as a whole. My lofty goal turned into a sad reality.

It seems like respect toward others and genuine kindness are relics of the past. Our American Presidential campaign has been based solely on anger, hatred and disrespect. Everyone screams for tolerance and respect, but what they mean is “Agree with me because I’m right and you’re wrong. And if you do disagree with me I’ll take to the Internet to degrade you and your beliefs. I’ll boycott, I’ll sue.”

The Internet has become a playground for those whose intention is to tear down and destroy others. This website can be no different. A critique soon becomes an insult. Two camps quickly form, lobbing verbal grenades at each other in the name of lofty ideals and philosophies related to photography. Meanwhile around the world, people are suffering and dying. Children are being sold into slavery. Planes are dropping into the Mediterranean.

So I asked myself the question, “Do I really care?” On most days, I know the answer. On other days, I’m just not sure. I want to be sure. Tomorrow will be better. Just need to stay out of traffic.

Candy Rock by DougKoepsel by DougKoepsel

As storm clouds blew past one afternoon, they aligned to seemingly radiate from the colorful peak for a moment. Candy Rock is one of my favorite features at one of my favorite locations in Arizona.

Heaven Above II by Odyssey-Photograpy by Odyssey-Photograpy

Only a few times a year am I fortunate enough to capture mother natures power and beauty like this. Lady Aurora makes many appearances but not in this power and compacity that it did this year on mothers day. And how amazing was it to watch it with my mom in her hometown of Westlock AB, Also giving me the opportunity to capture it in a different change of scenery. Focusing on the Hazel bluff church where my Granpa Martin is resting I was able to capture many shots like this. Explosions of white/green/purple above. This was one of those moments I wish i had many cameras pointed in every directions as there was rivers aiming further south but I was entranced by the explosions over head.I will remember this magical moment spent with my mom on mothers day of all days for ever. Hope every one gets to witness magic like this in there lifetime.

Blue hour in the mountains, just before the sun rises. by BertyMandagie by BertyMandagie

Prelude by Pcoskun by Pcoskun

A sunrise that gave off quite a show over this wonderful canyon view. The clouds began to get thicker and darker as virga was seen in the distance. A foreshadowing tale of what would be perhaps the best image I have produced this year. Amazing to be on one side of a canyon in the morning, and the complete opposite end the same evening, both yielding some incredible photographic conditions.
