The Beautiful South by MarkVeePhotography by MarkVeePhotography

Curtain Call by Pcoskun by Pcoskun

Sticking around the desert for just about the last year has me thinking of some non desert landscapes. I figured it would be nice to break up the harshness of the desert with one of the many gems in the Pacific Northwest. This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and I’ve posted a few images from here before. However, going through the folder allowed me to find this shot that included the sky above the falls. I had been so fixated on leaving the sky out of the images from here, but this shows the falls in all her glory. While they may not appear massive, it was giving a thunderous applause as it crashed onto the rocks. This wasn’t even at full flow when my friend Dustin and I visited. I can’t even imagine how crazy it would have been down below at full flow. One of the best parts of all was that we had this place almost completely to ourselves. It almost baffled me that such a beautiful waterfall that I found to be as beautiful as any I had seen all week was quite empty of people. It was definitely welcomed to have that kind of solitude here. I really wanted to put the emphasis on the water and mossy rocks, so I darkened this one up a bit. The more I look at it, the more I want to return and sit by the falls.

Reflection’s at Two Jack lake by Odyssey-Photograpy by Odyssey-Photograpy

Earlier this week when the aurora was supposed to be active we set off some where “new” to try and capture it and it took us to two jack lake (located just outside Banff) the conditions when we arrived were amazing no wind at all. As it would turn out though Ryan’s tripod succomd to a leg injury. The night wasn’t a full loss he manged to rig it to stand up but the moral was crippled. I certainly hope he was able to get a good image or 2. While he was repairing in on the spot I started snapping a few pics and this was my third shot of the night hope you enjoy!

Wrecked DC-3 Plane by GriffinLamb by GriffinLamb

Sunset on the black sand beaches of Iceland. It took a quick hike to get here, but the stunning contrast of the plane with the blue sky in the background made for a compelling composition.

Eagles Tributary by cjstead by cjstead

It seems that everywhwere you go in the Columbia River Gorge there are unbelievably beautiful scenes unfolding before your eyes. Mid morning sun illuminated this cascading creek and mossy forest.

The Crack in Winter by dswindler by dswindler

Here’s a shot of the Subway Crack taken during the winter months. The red colors of the canyon are more pronounced with any green leaves in the background. Since I don’t have the luxury of a tilt-shift lens, I had to do some focus-stacking to get this one sharp from foreground to background. When I was here last week, it was knee-deep water walking across the crack!
