Afternoon Delight by BrandtM by BrandtM

Wallowa Lake surrounded by the Wallowa Mountain Range.

This image was taken at what is typically the wrong time of day, mid afternoon under bright conditions with the sun high overhead. But even thought he light conditions are kind of harsh, this is the time of day, at this time of the year, where the snow in the mountain tops really light up. Earlier and later, many of the peaks get deep shadows hiding the brilliance of the snow. So, sometimes the wrong time of the day can be the right time for certain elements within a scene.

The Low flow by GreggB by GreggB

Photography isn’t only about sunset/sunrise shots… The most intense colors and best (defused) light happens at those times, but talking a midday shot can also produce an attractive image. If the sun is hidden behind the clouds the light will still be defused, and nice image can be obtained. This is what I intended to achieve when taking this shot. So, despite the fact the clouds lack of colors I think it turned out nicely.
When it comes to the river on the image…
I was a bit disappointed seeing it with so little water. Normally in April it’s at much higher level but there was just not enough rainy days (in a recent month or two) for snow to build up, then melt. So the waterfall looks kind of “bald”.

Satelight – Pacific Coast, Southern Oregon by DaveMorrow by DaveMorrow

From one of the best stretches of coastline on the Southern Oregon Coast. The half moon lights the entire coast, beaches and massive sea stacks.

We got really lucky in having some nice clouds and patches of stars prior to the whole thing clouding over.

Look closely at the bottom left of the photo and you’ll see the small stream that feeds into the Pacific Ocean. Just 30 feet behind me that stream drops off a waterfall right down onto the beach, behind that mossy forests, then highway 101, then logging, lots of logging, almost infinite. So much logging that only 2 small patches of old growth forests still exists on the entire Oregon Coast. The Rock Creek Wilderness and the Cummins Creek Wilderness.
