Assumptions never lead to anything good. Let’s say for example, you had been shooting a few shots of the stars with appropriate focus and didn’t like your composition. Then perhaps, you decided you’d try a different composition that you much preferred and on the back of the LCD, things were looking great. You assume that the focus did not change but somehow it did and when you get home, the preferred images in lightroom are all softly out of of focus. For arguments sake, you perhaps pretend that you did this intentionally for effect. Oh, this has nothing to do with this photograph of course ……
OK I lied – this did happen and I ended up having a soft foreground and using a star image from just prior to this actual shot being taken – the foreground lighting was from an electric candle and predawn light.An excuse to head back another time for a sharper version!
