The Magic Number by tpoulton001 by tpoulton001

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Mark Twain

Crawling out of our my tent, I felt the pain all through my body from the hike the day before, although the hike from the car park to the campsite is relatively easy that final push to the base of the towers is the killer. Torres del Paine comes from the Spanish word torres meaning towers and the Tehuelche Indian word paine meaning blue. The park is named after the three gigantic, spherical granite towers reaching almost 10,000 feet and the surrounding electric blue glacial lakes within the park. I’m continually mesmerised by the towers’ dramatic, captivating beauty, and enjoy admiring them at different times of the day as they turned from hues of pinks and reds to blues and black as the sun rose and set behind them.

Jeep Girl by PerriSchelat by PerriSchelat

Sorry folks my image disappeared (weird) so I’ve reposted it. Sorry! Trying not to take that personally Lol……..

I had just gotten my Jeep and its AEV conversion kit, replacing my V6 engine with a high performance V8 Hemi, 3.5″ lift and 35″ mud terrain tires, when I left for this trip to see the San Juan Mountains. I had never had my new jeep off road, but I had plenty of experience as an off road jeep girl driving a modified 2001 TJ, with a 4.5″ long arm lift, 35″ mud terrain tires, a low-range 4:1 transfer case, currie 9″ axle, ARB lockers and a Poison Spider roll cage. You could find me on weekends with my jeep friends on a trail, or a dry creek bed, climbing lots of challenging obstacles. To be honest, there really wasn’t much that I wouldn’t try to climb or attempt in my jeep. I am a firm believer that you are really only as good as your ground spotter. I was good, because I listened and didn’t try to show off. Since then I have taken my jeeps to so many places. On this trip to the San Juans, I loaded up 3 other photographers and we headed up to Corkscrew Pass taking a side trip to Gray Copper Gulch elevation 10,200 feet. It’s pretty darn fun to drive your jeep to those sorts of elevations in all types of road conditions. This location is usually socked in and gray, but on this morning it was perfectly clear. We arrived very early in the morning having left Silverton in the dark. This is a 6 frame, vertical panorama. I wish the clouds had moved through the entire screen, before they broke up and dissipated, I’m just glad I got some clouds. This wasn’t a complicated pano to make, no ground breaking story here, just a very pretty image. I printed this to hang over a clients couch, boy was it spectacular. I don’t jeep as much as I once did because I’ve been totally immersed in my photography. Whenever I can combine jeeping with photography, I’m very happy.
