Let There Be Light by Pcoskun by Pcoskun

It’s not often I get spoiled on a single evening, but this particular evening just gave me so much to work with in terms of light and atmosphere. This was from the same evening as “Wild Superstitions” and showcases some more incredible light I was able to witness. While I didn’t get lightning strikes in this image, the quality of light was some of the absolute best I have ever seen here. In fact, it was so intense that it you would have thought the image was dipped in pure gold. I had to tone this one down a bit and try to get some color separation. It’s amazing how quickly things change. The image I took prior to this showcased a double rainbow just to the left of the image and extended onto the mountain. I wish I could have incorporated that into this image, however, that was about thirty minutes prior to taking this scene in which I had to find shelter as it began pouring. It was like a snap of the fingers when the rain just stopped, the sun dipped just below the clouds and the golden light just exploded over the landscape. I ran quickly to find a decent composition, and while this is quite cluttered, shows quite a variety of desert vegetation. This was what I called the calm in the storm, it got quiet, a slight breeze which swayed the flowers and ocotillo and then all of a sudden, more loud crashes of thunder and lightning striking in all directions. I still can’t believe the quality of light I witnessed this evening, and every time I browse back through the gallery, I find myself grinning from ear to ear. With the monsoons soon approaching, I am hoping that I can photograph some even crazier conditions around the mountain. It’s been a while since my last visit!

Shades of Mauve by in2photos by in2photos

On the plane home today from Washington D.C., I worked on this one from my Oregon Coast road trip last month. The nice lady sitting next to me was adoring it, so I called it “done” when I detected her approval.

Did you see that seagull on the sand at the base of the leftmost rock?

Fields of Orange and Violet by ErwinBuske by ErwinBuske

This image was taken just before Sunset along Johnson Ridge last Sunday evening. The St. Helens flower fields this year are amazing, some of the best I have seen previously anywhere, including Mt. Rainier, and the Colorado Rockies.
