What is your Job going to be in the afterlife?

Some of us are believing in reincarnation, while others are putting all their hopes in the afterlife. Since we cannot tell who is right, let’s pretend for 10 minutes that the second one is the right answer. Just for the sake of the game.

If the afterlife exist, it’s easier to imagine that it will be very similar with our life. Among other things it means that we would have a job.

10 Things Confident And Smart People Say Daily

You know that lady in the office down the hall, the really confident one. She has got her shit together and isn’t afraid to show it off. Not in an egotistical cocky way but in a super sexy confident way. She’s humble, proud, smart and intriguing. That girl has got it all. And then there’s the guy who works at the bank. He’s got a smile that could light up a room, a handshake that assures you that he’s your guy. Also super confident. What is it about these people? What do they have that you don’t?

First and foremost, these people probably weren’t born this way. They either came from struggle which is where a lot of successful people come from or they came from determination and ambition. Whatever the case, they worked hard at it. One of the main things in their confidence toolbox is self talk. They know how to talk to themselves for success and confidence. Here is a small sample of some of the things you might catch them saying out loud (or you may even hear them mutter under their breath).

confident1. I can do this.

They say it and they believe it. They mean it and they say it with great conviction. They know whatever it is, they can do it. If they don’t know how, they will find a way. If the way is hard, they will figure it out and do it anyway.

2. Eff you fear.

They face fear boldly, challenge it and flick it away. They know that they are going to come up against things that they may not like, things that are going to terrify them and things that they simply don’t want to do. They also know that to get to the next level, they must face that fear. So they do it.

3. We are all here to win.

They don’t want come out ahead and laugh at the little guy. They want everyone to win and they are happy to help others succeed too. They know and understand that success is for everyone, not just them.

4. I was born for this.

Whatever it is, they know it’s theirs. It was meant for them. If it’s a challenge or a prize, they know it crossed their path because it was meant to and they don’t question it. They accept it and move on.

5. Today is a good day to be happy.

They start their day happy and continue on their happy path throughout the day. They know it’s important to start the day smiling and being grateful for the life and abundance they have, even if they don’t have great riches, they are thankful for life.

6. Something good is coming my way.

They know it, they believe it and they feel it. They don’t know what it is but it could be a person, a work opportunity or a gift. They know something good is coming and they welcome it. They know to stay on that high vibration of giving and receiving.

7. Thank you for my awesome life.

They say thank you many times throughout the day but they don’t start their day without it. They immediately are grateful for another day, another gift and they rise confidently and full of happiness and love in their heart.

8. I will figure this out.

They know they don’t have all the answers and sometimes they have to figure certain things out. They will dig through books, ask questions, no matter what they have to do, they will do it to get the answers they need. They love to sniff around and do research. A great way to learn.

9. I am enough.

They remind themselves daily that they are enough and they are ok exactly as they are, faults and all. They accept their flaws and imperfections and don’t try to change for anybody or impress anyone. They are who they are and they change and improve only for themselves, no one else.

10. I get better every day.

They know they will learn new things today and work toward improving their lives but they also know that tomorrow they will know and learn even more. Every single day they are open to learning and growing and bettering themselves. They stay open to this daily.

They not only say these things to themselves daily, they believe it all. This helps with their confidence. They convince themselves they are great, smart, successful, confident and happy. And so it is.

5 Key Rules To Create A Killer Presentation

Whether you are a teacher who wants to deliver an interesting lecture to students in the classroom, a marketer presenting in front of important customers, or the CEO of Apple trying to impress his fans at the yearly event, you all have the same challenge: how to present like a super star, in a way that your audience will never forget..

After analysis of hundreds of the most successful lecturers in the world, one can say that there are five important rules on how to create a presentation that is clear, memorable and, most of all, fun.

1. Tell us a story

story teller

It’s no secret that most people prefer to hear a story over the formal lecture of a professor or a salesperson who simply sticks to the topics in his slides. A good story is one that has a beginning, middle and end. It seems simple, right? How many lectures have you attended where you felt like you did not understand where the lesson was going?

A good presenter is a story teller. He will lead the audience step by step throughout the story. Each step is based on the previous stage. The story has clear logic. There must be a clear connection between the story parts.

At the beginning of the story, give as much information as possible so the audience will understand the problem or the subject you are planning to teach. When you get into the middle part of your story, explicitly mention that you are stepping into the next stage of the story by saying something like: “And now I’ll describe the solution” or “Once we understood the problem ….” This helps your audience to understand that they are entering the next stage of your story.

Now that you have finished the middle section and provided the solution or taught the main subject, it is the time to check if the audience understood the lecture by moving forward into the last part – the summary. You should explicitly state that you are entering the summary part by using a simple statement such as “To conclude our lecture…” or “We have learned that …”

The proper weight of the story is:

  • 15% for opening and general description
  • 75% for the middle section
  • 10% for the summary of the story

The best practice is to plan your story even before you start creating your slides. Take a blank page, draw three rectangles and write inside as shown in this example:

5Key_picture

2. People are visual

After you finish creating the structure of your story, it is time to prepare your slides. The important thing to remember is that the slides are meant for you, the teacher, not for the students. After all, the students came to see and hear you and not your slides. Otherwise, you could simply email them your slides, couldn’t you?

A common mistake of lecturers is to load a lot of text into the slides, and then facing their backs to the students to read from the slides. Unless you are a teacher in first grade, give credit to your students that they can read the text for themselves.

The right way is to use pictures. As large as possible, interesting, and ideally, funny. It’s easier to remember a picture and connect it to a story, than to remember text you wrote on the slide.

Still want to add some text? That’s OK as long as it will not exceed 3 lines with large font. Such text can help you remember the subject you wish to talk about. As we have said, the slides are meant for you.

3. Monotony: Only if you wish to make them sleep

boring presentation

How many times have you been crying with laughter at a stand-up comedy show only to find that when you tried to tell the same joke to your friends later, nobody laughed?

What is the difference? After all, it’s the same story, with all the same details and yet, it’s just not funny to anyone now.

It all depends on intonation of speech. If a slideshow were a movie, intonation would be the background music. Even the most interesting subject in the world can put the audience to sleep within a few minutes if the lecturer is monotonic. Like the story has ups and downs, the pitch should follow the same way. Change your pitch, play with the speed and volume, engage the audience by using words of enthusiasm when you get into the climax of the story. But also remember to decrease your speed and volume and relax the listeners at the low moments of the story.

“Compose the music” of your lecture at home. Speak to yourself and hear the intonation. If it is pleasant to your ear, it will be pleasant for your students.

4. Make it short and then cut it by half

Let’s do a little experiment. You find a link to a video on a subject that interests you and then press the link to play it. How many of you checked the length of the movie during the first few seconds?

Now, let’s assume the length is 60 minutes long. How many of you will immediately stop watching?
Students are far more time-sensitive than teachers are. Even if you think that the lesson deserves its 60-minute time, simply divide it into parts.

TED talks, which feature the best lecturers in the world speaking on highly engaging topics, are all between 8 and 10 minutes long.

On our website theLearnia where you can create videos in minutes, we restricted the video lesson time to 15 minutes. The timer counts down to remind the teacher to focus on the most important messages within the designated time. In our observations, we found that students often leave after an average of 4.5 minutes.

Even if you have a lot to say, consider that nobody will be there to listen after the first 5 minutes.

5. Practice, practice and more practice

Let’s take Steve Jobs as an example, who is considered one of the greatest presenters of our generation. He practices for days before the annual presentation of his next product launch. He enters the auditorium, closes the door to visitors and practices for days. He brings all the accessories, executes the demo software, and opens the envelopes again and again, just to make everything flow as smoothly as possible.

No one is born ready to lecture. It is a matter of lots of practice, learning, fixing mistakes and practicing again. If Steve Jobs could spend whole days before a lecture, you can also invest in practice prior to each lecture, especially if you are not quite up to his skill level.

The good news is that there’s a relatively short learning curve, and each practice will produce substantial improvement relative to the time before. It just becomes easier and more professional over time.

In conclusion

Perhaps you already know some or even all the rules specified here. However, I have found that despite the theoretical knowledge required for making a fascinating lecture, most instructors repeatedly return to their comfort zone. They rush to prepare the presentation, load too much text on their slides, and often create a presentation so long that even they have not enough time to present it.

Recall Diet Coke’s old slogan:” Less is More” and plan your presentation in accordance with the rules in this article. Beyond improving your personal presentation skills you’ll be surprised by the positive feedback from your students.

10 Things Single Happy People Want You To Know

Are they happy, sad, lonely, depressed, ecstatic? They say they are ok but are they really? We wonder how they can live like this, alone and single. They’ve been this way far too long. Surely they must be lonely. The married or attached person sometimes has a hard time figuring out the single person. Some might actually even be a tad envious of their life. You should be. The single person has some interesting things they want you to know about their super cool life.

Many are single on purpose while others simply haven’t found a suitable partner. Some wish they weren’t alone and long to have a partner, but not just any partner. Unfortunately, there are some who will choose anyone over loneliness. This is never a good idea. Whatever the case may be, here are a few things you should know.

happy_single1. Don’t feel sorry for us.

We’re not sorry. We’re pretty darned happy actually. Ok so maybe it can be a bit of a struggle trying to find a date to events with the rest of you guys but honestly, we’re happy to go alone if we have to. It’s ok. Really. we enjoy our own company so much, we’re not really alone anyway.

2. Please no more blind dates.

I know you mean well and you would like to see me with the guy who works in cubicle #24 but really, I’m ok for dates. If I want to go on a date or feel the need to, I’m pretty capable of finding my own. If I can’t find one, I’ll go solo and be open to whatever comes my way.

3. We don’t always want to talk about sex with you.

Especially as you are getting it and we are, well, you know, not. Yes, we would like to have sex, no we won’t go out and get it with a stranger. We don’t need or want it that bad. We don’t really want to have the sex toy conversation with you either. It’s rather private, thank you.

4. Yes, your spouse is hot, no we don’t want them.

Just because we are single doesn’t mean we are eyeballing every single specimen of the opposite sex and fantasizing about them. We can appreciate beauty just like the other guy. We don’t necessarily want to have sex with everything we see. Remember, we kinda like being single.

5. I am picky, you’re right.

Why does that bother you? I can be picky if I want. I’m not looking to get married anytime soon but if I did, the next person has to be absolutely perfect for me. I won’t settle for less. I’ve done that for far too long. I know my worth and I won’t budge.

6. I could be single forever.

And that’s ok too. not everyone in the world has to get married. Some of us can just be single and happy. We go out when we want, we date when and who we want, we live our life for ourselves and still get to enjoy the company of our friends and family at any time. Being single has many many perks.

7. And speaking of perks.

Our life is full of them. Freedom, peace, happiness, no stress, total contentment. There are tons of perks of being single so we don’t necessarily want you to set us up on a date. We really are pretty happy on our own. I know, it’s crazy to even think that.

8. Don’t insist I come out with you and your friends all the time.

I’m really not lonely. Refer back to #1. You don’t have to feel sorry for me, I don’t. I love my alone time and when you call and insist I come out with you, as much as I appreciate you thinking about me, really you need to understand, I’m ok alone.

9. You can still talk to me.

Even though I’m single you can still tell me your love life problems. I’ve been in relationships before, remember? I know what it’s like and maybe I can even give you some unbiased advice or another perspective. Don’t feel like you can’t talk to me anymore.

10. I really do love going out for dinner and to the movies alone.

Sounds bizarre but it’s very relaxing for me. To sit and not have to entertain anyone feels very peaceful and stress-less. Going out alone offers me the opportunity to make new friends and forces me to talk to other people and meet new people and that really is super fun.

The single life can be a happy one indeed.

How To Make Your Job Search More Productive

Job-seeking can be quite the undertaking, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the process. You’ll need to have a good amount of self-discipline to get through the application stages, and a good amount of resilience to power through the inevitable rejections. It’s all part of the process. But, you’ll be pleased to know that you can minimize the rough parts of your job search by following a handful of easy steps.

Ask yourself the big questions first

career trajectory

Before you delve into searching for a job, figure out what you want your career trajectory to look like. And not only that, but determine what kind of schedule, location, and general workplace culture you would like to have with your job. If you can avoid it, don’t settle for a job that isn’t aligned with your long-term goals and interests. But keep in mind that it’s okay if you aren’t sure what your goals are yet.

You can use a career aptitude test to gain some direction, or meet with professionals in different industries to get an idea of what their jobs are like.

Keep a routine

When it comes to finding a job, the process alone can equate to a full time job. Between searching for job listings, individualizing your cover letters, and rehearsing your interviews, you will spend many of your waking hours getting through it all.

In order to maximize your time, it’s best to set a routine and stick to it. Set aside a time frame in which you plan to accomplish your tasks, and allocate your time based on what parts will take longer. Searching for jobs and writing cover letters are bound to be the biggest time-consumers, so plan around that to start with.

See Also: Resume Action Words That Will Get You That Job

Set goals

Weekly goals will help you to keep your routine on track and your motivation up. Use goal setting to hold yourself accountable for reaching a certain number of applications submitted per week or making a certain number of connections per week. Avoid setting goals against elements that are out of your control (e.g. number of interviews requested).

Expand your search

job search sources

Nowadays, much of the typical job searches are done via social media. And while Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are some great resources for job searching and more, they won’t necessarily be as comprehensive as other sources. For example, job boards such as Gumtree have many listings that haven’t made their way to social media.

Keep learning

While the job search will take a considerable amount of your time, save some room in your schedule for professional development. Learn some relevant skills to give your resume a little boost. If you aren’t sure what skills would benefit you, have a look at that jobs you’re applying for to see what kinds of preferred qualifications are listed. For example, if an employer is seeking applicants with extra coding knowledge, you can head over to Codecademy to gain some new programming language skills.

See Also: Remain motivated while between jobs

Follow up

Once you apply for a job, keep track of when you submitted your application. Also note when the employer indicated that applicants would be contacted, if that information is available.

Generally, your follow up emails should fall about a week from the date you submitted your application. Just be careful not to overdo your follow-ups. One time is plenty.

And again, don’t get discouraged if the job search is slow-going. It’s pretty unlikely that all of your applications will result in job offers, but you’ll gain some valuable practice in the process.

9 Ways To Get That Person Off Your Mind

You know who that person is. The one who pissed you off in the grocery store. The one who cut you off in traffic. It also could be your ex boyfriend or girlfriend or an old high school chum who came out of nowhere and said something really mean. Whoever the person is, you know exactly who it is. You can’t stop thinking about them and the thoughts aren’t even good. So how do we get them off our mind, once and for all?

As much as we like to hang on to happy memories we also like to cling to shit memories too. The ones that really hurt us or angered us. For some reason, we hold onto them for dear life rehashing the whole incident and what they said. We play it over and over like a bad movie t hat we can’t get enough of. We know it’s not good for us but how do we stop? Here are a few tricks that might work for you.

off_your_mind1. Change the channel.

Sounds easy enough and it really can be if you apply it properly. As soon as you start thinking about them, immediately click the remote control and visualize another person but not just any person, a happier person. Someone you actually enjoy spending time with.

2. Call a friend.

Who knew. Don’t call them to talk about that person you can’t get off your mind, call them and talk about fun things, happy things, any thing but that person. Call the happiest friend you know. That’s the one who will change your mindset in seconds.

3. Write them a letter.

Not one you actually send to them but a private one. Get it all out. Tell them how you feel and tell them you are booting them out of your head once and for all. You can type it out on your computer or write it out on a pad with a pen. The method isn’t as important as getting it all out. Write it and release it. Do this as often as you have to until you no longer think about them.

4. Forgive them.

Yes, I know, this one is a tough one. It’s so necessary to aid in your healing and happiness. You can forgive them in person, or simply through prayers and journaling. Either way, forgiveness, though hard as it is, will release them from your mind a lot sooner.

5. Talk it out.

Even to them if you have to. Call them and just tell them how you feel, why you feel like that, sort it out and be done with it. Nothing ever gets resolved by silence and if it’s anger or hurt you’re feeling, you can quite possibly talk it over and be done with it. The nasty thoughts will be dealt with and not come back.

6. Get creative.

Draw, paint, write, sing or engage in any other fun and creative thing. Soon you won’t be thinking of them anymore and you’ll be smiling and laughing and singing. Creativity soothes and cures the soul and the mind.

7. Play with puppies.

Or kittens or any other cute little furry critter that needs love and attention. Go to the park and feed the chipmunks. There is something about 4 legged fluffy baby things that just makes everyone smile and feel happy again. Go find one or two or 10.

8. Read a book.

A mystery novel, a comic book, maybe even a hot and steamy romance novel. Reading will certainly replace evil thoughts of that person with thoughts of intrigue, suspense and love. A good book is a cure for many things.

9. Meditate on them.

Why are you hanging on? Is there something you need to release? Let the emotions go in and out. Don’t try to analyze it just let it flow through you. As you breathe in the power of forgiveness, blow them out. Before you knock it, try it. You’ll be amazed at how much better you will feel.

It’s not always easy to stop thinking about someone who wronged us but it’s not impossible either. Have hope. They won’t be in your head for long after these few tricks.
