Lake Vyrnwy at sunset by MathewBrowne by MathewBrowne

The best sunset I’ve ever seen. Taken from the window of our room at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel in mid Wales.

Lake Vyrnwy (Welsh: Llyn Efyrnwy, pronounced [ɛˈvərnʊɨ] or Llyn Llanwddyn) is a reservoir in Powys, Wales. Its stone-built dam, built in the 1880s, was the first of its kind in the world. It was built for the purpose of supplying Liverpool and the districts later designated as Merseyside with fresh water. It flooded the head of the Vyrnwy valley and submerged the small village of Llanwddyn.

A Memory by kahkityoong by kahkityoong

With all the conflicts recently in landscape photography (which was happy to steer clear of), this image seems a good one to post. Copying will always be rife in photography; it’s really really hard to come up with something truly original. The alternative is having a photo like this; the location no longer exists in this form. Years ago the arch collapsed and in my opinion doesn’t come close to being as photogenic as it was previously.
