The country where I live #3 by agoralex by agoralex

I live in a land of plains. Lifts your gaze to the horizon without obstruction. Only in the clearest days, when the sky is clear, you can see the mountains, far away. But, sometimes, in the spring days, we receive a gift, fantastic skies that light up the suggestion of the place in which I live.

Ever since first photographing these ledges in 2010 I’ve been longing to return with some special conditions. Last week there seemed little chance of any light, the forecast was for rain, grey sky, and strong wind coming in off the sea. I went anyhow, and captured pictures while putting up with all of these conditions. After the second downpour I packed up my gear and decided to leave. Before I walked away I took one last look and was gobsmacked to see the sun appear out of nowhere. The evening was completely transformed in the space of a few minutes!

Just above Panther falls, following the creek there is a gorgeous couple of small drops and rapids surrounded by thick evergreens make this small area like a closed out tunnel with the light at the end.
I’ve had big troubles trying to capture this scene without blowing the highlights as contrast of the scene was just ridiculous, and not being that PS friendly, I had to get the best single exposure ,which was like 5 stops underexposing it, luckily I had an Nikon 😛
BTW Really cool and peaceful place for an afternoon coffee 🙂

A picture of Bâlea Lake at sunset taken from Șaua Caprei high above.

Bâlea Lake (Romanian: Lacul Bâlea or Bâlea Lac, pronounced [ˈbɨle̯a]) is a glacier lake situated at 2,034 m of altitude in the Făgăraș Mountains, in central Romania, in Cârțișoara, Sibiu County. There are two chalets opened all the year round, a meteorological station and a mountain rescue (Salvamont) station. It is accessible by car on the Transfăgărășan road during the summer, and the rest of the year by a cable car from the “Bâlea Cascadă” chalet.

In 2006, the first ice hotel in Eastern Europe was built in the vicinity of the lake.
