‘Stranger Things’ Fans Crash Museum Website to Buy the Same Dinosaur Hoodie

Stranger Things Brontosaurus Hoodie Special Release Science Museum of Minnesota

Despite being released two weeks ago, the hype of Stranger Things season two is as strong as ever, and it’s even become the source of some recent fashion-mania. During episode one, Dustin (played by Gaten Matarazzo) comes to class wearing a purple Brontosaurus hoodie, with the caption “Thunder Lizard.” The show’s costume designer Kim Wilcox sourced an original online—which was sold in the mid-‘80s as part of a traveling exhibition curated by the Science Museum of Minnesota—and was inspired to make a custom version in Gaten’s size. After noticing their vintage merchandise on the show, the non-profit museum decided to put the garment back into production for a special re-release.

On launch day the museum’s online store received more than 18,000 orders—making roughly $600,000 in sales—and even caused their site to temporarily crash. The best part? All of the revenue will go towards putting on more exhibitions, helping further educate children about science and technology. “As a nonprofit, all of the proceeds will go back to our mission of science and education and inspiring other young kids like Dustin on the show and his friends to have an interest in science,” said the museum’s Public Relations Director, Kim Ramsden.

The Brontosaurus apparel is available to buy online, but be quick, as there’s a limited supply. According to the museum, more sizes will be be available on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

The non-profit Science Museum of Minnesota recently re-released their purple Brontosaurus hoodie, worn by Dustin in Stranger Things 2.

The “Thunder Lizard” merchandise comes in hoodies, crew-necks, and T-shirts.

Making approximately $600,000 in sales, the proceeds will go to supporting the museum’s educational exhibitions.

Paris Apartment Looks Exactly Like a Wes Anderson Film Inside (and It’s For Sale)

Paris Apartment is Wes Anderson in Real Life

Director Wes Anderson is known for his visually striking aesthetic in both how his characters look and the places they inhabit. There are entire subreddits and Instagram accounts dedicated to finding locales that have the same sort of off-beat colors and vintage-style opulence that make his films so alluring. With projects like Accidental Wes Anderson, however, we hardly ever see what’s beyond the facade of these quirky buildings—until now. A Paris apartment that was recently listed for sale looks like it could be Margaux Tenenbaum’s place.

The spectacular three-bedroom space is a southeast-facing unit that occupies the top floor of a building located in the Passy area of Paris. With the Eiffel tower visible from the apartment, the view alone is worth it. But inside, there’s a lot to marvel over. The entrance gallery is its most striking feature and the most Anderson-esque part of the entire place. It has bright green walls, a parquet floor, and an ornate wrought iron staircase that complements some of the finer details on the wall paneling and hanging light.

The grand entryway is just the beginning. In addition to that space, there’s a large living room, a small living room, a dining room, a master bedroom (with a marble bathroom attached), and a kitchen. Each has wood paneling on the walls and impeccable styling that’s a mix of eclectic findings and bright color pairings.

Complete with a bay window and balconies, this 400 square meter (4,305 square feet) abode will cost you—the asking price is €5,775,000. For those in the United States looking for a Parisian getaway, that will run you roughly $6.72 million.

If you’ve ever wanted to live like you were in a Wes Anderson film, now’s your chance.

5 Reasons Why You Should Consider AI Automation for Small Business

If you are aware of the developments in technology, then you have probably heard about Artificial Intelligence (AI). For a lot of people, it’s too complex or high-tech so they don’t really pay a lot of attention to it.

In fact, even small businesses don’t think much of AI. They believe that only big tech companies like Apple and Google can utilize it. However, that’s not true.

AI has numerous benefits for small businesses. It’s something you cannot ignore if you want to stay ahead of your competition.

Today, open-minded businesses have started using AI to create a business logo, respond to emails, comb the Internet for leads identification, help customers with chatbots and a lot more.

If you have not seriously considered AI automation for your business yet, then the following 5 reasons can surely convince you.

Enhanced Bookkeeping

There are plenty of AI tools designed specifically for bookkeeping that you can use. While many offer help with the basic data entry tasks, some are more advanced and can easily perform many roles. You can use it in reading and preparing invoices, set invoice reminders, release payments on schedule and more.

So, instead of expanding your accounting department, you can invest in an AI bookkeeping program which is more affordable and highly useful.

Lead Nurturing

No matter how skilled your sales reps are, they will always have limitations.

For starters, one can handle only a certain number of leads at a time. Secondly, they need a certain amount of time with every lead to learn about their personality, pain points, opportunities for connection building and many other aspects that are required for their nurturing.

However, with AI automation you can take the entire process to the next level and benefit from increased productivity.

An AI program designed for lead nurturing can read and respond to the emails of your prospects using a list of set messages and the Natural Language Processing technology. It can also go through the past conversations you have had with your leads to pinpoint important bits of information. Most importantly, it can work 24/7 since it can function without human intervention.

Online Customer Support

A number of studies have found that customers find it more comfortable to inquire about the services or products of a company through messaging, especially via online chat as opposed to voice calls. However, hiring a full-time customer executive can be expensive for a small business. Again, this is where AI automation can be a great option.

chatbots

Not only AI-powered chatbots are highly popular today, you can also find some highly affordable options easily. You can install one of these on your website so that when your customers need some information, it will be readily available. In addition to that, having AI-powered chatbots can also make your website more attractive.

Cheap but Quality Branding

Usually, it’s hard to find quality and affordability at the same place. However, AI automation seems to have changed that.

This is because it can help you with your company branding in many ways and at modest pricing. There are companies like Tailor Brands that offer an entire suite of branding tools- from logo creation to social media banner creation at a fraction of the price that you would pay to a graphics designer.

Intelligent Personal Assistants

You are probably already familiar with virtual personal assistants, such as Apple’s Siri or Microsoft Corona. Today, a new range of similar assistants is emerging and they are even more intelligent and more suitable for businesses. For instance, there is Amy from x.ai that can arrange meetings for you or Pana that can arrange your travel.

AI has matured enough today that it can be utilized in different ways in every industry. It’s now easily available at affordable costs, too. If you haven’t considered using one for your business, it’s probably the right time to reconsider your strategy.

How To Prepare A Wall For Tiling

Tiling is a job I’ve always really enjoyed. It’s satisfying seeing the wall gradually disappear beneath the flow of tiles. Once you get into a groove, this activity almost becomes therapeutic.

However, before you can get into the groove, you’ve got to make sure that your surface is prepped and ready. Otherwise, you might find your groove or your tiles falling a bit flat.

You can tile over existing tiles or paint, but this can lead to problems. It will put too much weight on your walls and create an uneven surface. How you prep your wall depends on what is already on it.

Here are some tips you can use:

Prep

safety-goggles

First things first, cover everything nearby in dust sheets to protect them from bits of paint, globs of filler and splashes of paint remover. This includes your floor and pieces of furniture.

Make sure the area is well ventilated and wear eye goggles to protect your peepers from particles. It is also essential that if you are doing anything that involves tearing into your walls, you must turn off the mains electricity at your home.

See Also: Eye Safety In The Workplace: Effective Ways To Protect Your Vision

Wallpaper

Remove the wallpaper by wetting it with a sponge first. Using a putty knife, start pushing at its edges. Once you’re able to get a solid grip on one edge, start pulling it away with your hands. You can use the putty knife to loosen it when needed. You can also use the sponge to make it wetter if you need to.

It doesn’t matter if you’re less than gentle with it. Remember, you can easily repair any gouges and scrapes on the wall with filler.

The next thing to do is to sand the whole wall with medium-grade sandpaper to make it a rough surface. Tiling grout requires an uneven surface to grip better. If your walls have been painted before being wallpapered, then look at the next step.

Paint

If this paint layer is quite old or you have reasons to believe that it might be lead paint, then get a professional in to deal with it. I cannot stress that enough. Anyway, if it’s a nice non-lead based paint, then go ahead and remove it. There are a couple of ways you can go about vanquishing paint from your walls.

scraping paint

Start with a scraper. Use the edge of the scraper to score diagonal lines in the paint. This will expose edges in the paint shell to make scraping off easier. Drag the wide area of the scraper across the paint in all directions to remove as much paint as you possibly can.

Get rid of any other paint with paint remover. Wait for it to dry, then use a filler to make it an even surface. Sand the wall with a medium-grade sandpaper to create that rough surface for the grout.

Plaster

If there is only plaster on the wall, then the prepping job becomes much easier for you. Simply skip straight to the filler stage, making sure you create an even surface. Then, sand it with a medium-grade sandpaper to make it rough for the tile grout to latch onto.

Existing tiles

It might be surprising for you to learn that you don’t actually have to remove existing tiles from your wall if you’re going to be adding new tiles. Just make sure that all of your tiles are in good condition. If not, then replace any cracked tiles with other tiles or wallboard. Wash the tiled wall with TSP to ensure a clean and non-greasy surface.

If you don’t have enough replacement tiles or if the tiling is too damaged, then you will have to remove the tiles before you put on the new ones. This is when you start the demolition. Again, make sure that mains electricity is off.

Cut into the grout between the tiles with a sharp utility knife and then get to work with a hammer and chisel. Get the chisel into one of the tile’s edges and hammer the end to force it under and the tile away from the wall.

If you want to keep the old tiles, then make sure you’re careful and make the floor padded for when they fall off. If you aren’t going to use them again, then just go ahead and hammer away to your heart’s content.

That is how to prepare a wall for tiling. Your wall is now prepped and ready for your new tiles. You have a level surface with just the right amount of roughness, perfect for tile grout to stick onto. So, that’s half the job done. Make yourself a cup of tea and have a sit-down. You’ve earned it.

How Reading Books Could Change Your Perspective on Life

How Reading Books Could Change Your Perspective on Life

A good book has the power to change our lives, unlike any other thing. But with the rapid advancement of technology, people seem to have forgotten the simple joys a good book could bring. Reading books let us travel through different worlds and opens up the portal to live the life of millions of different characters. It does not matter what you enjoy reading, as long as you enjoy reading. It could be enjoying reading Harry Potter finding all the Horcruxes or Mr. Darcy getting over his arrogance and pride.

There is no right book for anyone. That’s because a book automatically becomes the right one for you, once you start reading it. Big or small, fiction or nonfiction, biography or autobiography, reading books has the power to change your perspective on life. Let’s find out how:

#1: Reading Books Improves Imagination

Books are one of the most creative art forms. Every book that we read opens up a world of different characters, different storylines and different locations. Reading requires us to open up our mind to the world of imagination to experience our own perspective of the story. Our imagination and creativity automatically increase as we are enlightened with all the knowledge from a book.

#2: Reading Books Helps You Grow

Reading about people’s success stories and the struggles they went through to get to that position will inspire and help you grow in your own personal life. All of us need the motivation to move ahead in life. And books are the best medium for that. They give us the chance to tap into the character’s emotions and understand how they feel. These stories go on to become inspirations for us to keep moving upward on the ladder called life.

#3: Reading Books Builds Confidence

When we read books, we read about the various struggles and hardships that the characters go through. Sometimes we even relate those situations to our personal lives. Understanding how these characters overcome challenges in a positive way ultimately gives us the confidence to deal with difficult situations in our personal lives in a better way. A carefully crafted book helps you build all the strong and right opinions and gives you the confidence to stand by it.

#4:Reading Books Increases Knowledge

In the words of George RR Martin, “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads only lives once”. It’s true, we live only one life. But when we read books we gain knowledge from thousands. Age does not matter when it comes to gaining knowledge from reading books. As it enhances the power of thinking in every field and simultaneously improves our vocabulary to a great extent.

#5: Reading Books Reduces Stress

Reading books has proved to be an essential stress buster. Fiction books are the best to cope with stress. Books have the ability to let you immerse into a different world by letting you forget all your personal issues, tension and stress, and helps you relax. With a great story in hand, all the daily life problems just slip away from the mind. In addition, books bring a sense of peace and tranquillity to the mind.

#6: Reading Books Strengthens Analytical Thinking

Reading books keeps us on our toes with questions that actively enhance analytical thinking skills. Our brain is always asking questions while reading. And at times we tend to crack the mystery behind the questions way before it is mentioned in the book. We can further apply these analytical thinking skills in real life by letting our minds stimulate and think in new ways.

Conclusion:

Reading books is an excellent way to pass your time. It’s simple. It brings joy. Reading refreshes your mood and makes you feel optimistic about everything happening around you. Reading does not take a lot of effort; you can read anywhere and everywhere and let yourself forget the world around you. And, if you want to do something great for yourself today, then start reading. Give yourself a chance to live more than a single life, a chance to build the right opinions and a chance to change the perspective on life.

Vintage New York Photos Reveal Gritty City Life, Before Anyone Had a Cellphone

From 1977 to 2001, photographer Richard Sandler roamed the streets of New York City, capturing some of the most iconic street photography of this bustling city in flux. Using his Leica, he documented generations of New Yorker’s caught in the whirlwind of change that almost 30 years brought upon the city.

In his book, The Eyes of the City, Sandler showcases the best of his photography, which captures everything from the urban decay of the 1980s to the ever-widening class differences, which is a recurring theme throughout his work. Sandler’s subjects appear vacant and preoccupied, lost in their own worlds looking for love or wishing themselves anywhere but the graffiti-laden subway. It’s this energy that fills Sandler’s favorite photograph, CC Train, 1985, which also graces the cover of his book.

“I like this one because every person is looking at me or through me, but also looking at YOU, the viewer! Each person in the picture is a kind of question mark requiring your interpretation,” the acclaimed photographer tells My Modern Met via email. “The graffiti and clothing date it as the recent past, but it is their gazes at us that I find timeless and haunting. The best pictures are the ones that ask more questions than they answer.”

W 32nd Street

Today, Sandler reflects back on his time as New York’s foremost street photographer. In a time when people look back upon a pre-9/11 New York with nostalgia, his work has continued to garner a strong following. “As the recent past ripens, it fades into the distance, but until it does, its meanings live in limbo and uncertainty. In our own time, ‘the recent past’ are the two decades just before computers, cell phones, and the internet, and most of us miss that time because, though we were not connected to the worldwide grid, we were more connected to one another.”

In fact, Sandler points to the rise of the cell phone as the main reason he stopped photographing New York’s streets. “I don’t want people on cell phones in my pictures because they are essentially virtual; their bodies are on the street but their attentions are elsewhere and they walk around in bubbles,” he shares with us. “I like intensity in street photography and people on cell phones are boring.”

Richard Sandler’s images from Eyes of the City are on view at the Leica Store in New York City through November 29, 2017. He will also be hosting a talk about street photography and his work on November 10, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Acclaimed street photographer Richard Sandler spent almost 30 years roaming the streets of New York City with his Leica.

10+ Different Types of Houses Found in Countries Around the World

Different Types of Houses Around the World

Throughout history, people have fabricated shelters that fit their surroundings. With a universal set of criteria in mind—including access to tools, availability of materials, and type of climate—individuals from all over the world constantly reinterpret, reimagine, and redefine the concept of home.

To many of us, a home is a four-walled fixture on a permanent foundation. But to others, it is a snowy sanctuary, a hidden cave, or even a floating boat. Here, we explore these different types of houses in order to understand how and why such a wide range of shelters exist across the globe.

Let’s take a tour of different types of houses around the world.

Cave Homes (Matmata, Tunisia)

Different Types of Houses Around the World

Photo: Ansgar Walk (photo taken by de:Benutzer:wotan) [GFDL, Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Germany license.

In Matmata, Tunisia, cave homes—ancient abodes that have been carved out of sandstone—keep people comfortable all year long. Situated around a central pit and connected by a network of passageways, these one-of-a-kind properties provide protection from the North African sun and desert winds.

Today, many cave homes in locations around the world have been turned into unique cave hotels.

Rondavels/Round Homes (Lesotho, South Africa)

Different Types of Houses Around the World

Photo: By Photo by Rich Tracy /Jeff.t.mcdonald at en.wikipedia (Photo by Rich Tracy) [Public domain], from Wikimedia Commons

In South Africa, rondavels—rounded, single-cell huts—are favored for their ability to be built from natural, locally sourced materials. Like igloos, rondavels were traditionally used as temporary hunting lodgings.

Today, round houses are built and bought by people interested in saving both space and energy.

Stilt Houses (Cambodia, Southeast Asia)

In Southeast Asia, where heavy rain is prevalent, you can find communities of stilt houses. These homes are raised up on planks in order to protect its inhabitants and their possessions from flooding. They’re also designed to sit just high enough to keep safe from invading vermin—namely, snakes and insects. Additionally, their roofs are sloped, in order to allow rainwater to easily stream down without damaging the property.

Though they’re primarily built in Southeast Asia today, stilt houses are also present in the western hemisphere where homes are faced with hurricane damage. This type of house is thought to have first be used (in the west) by indigenous tribes of the Americas.

Yurts (Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia)

Yurts—portable tents traditionally composed of animal skins—have been used by Central Asian nomads for centuries. While, in the past, these structures were intended as temporary shelters, contemporary construction methods and access to new materials have allowed them to be used as permanent housing.

Underground Houses (Coober Pedy, Australia)

Different Types of Houses Around the World

In addition to being the “opal capital of the world,” Coober Pedy, a South Australian town, is renowned for its “dugouts,” special shelters built beneath the Earth’s surface.

According to Smithsonian Magazine, these unique underground homes act as an oasis from the outback’s heat (summer temperatures can reach a sweltering 113 degrees Fahrenheit) and occasional dust storms. For this reason, half of the town’s residents—as well as a museum, a church, and even a hotel—have opted for this underground lifestyle.

Igloos (Baffin Island, Canada)

Different Types of Houses Around the World

Though not as prevalent as they once were, igloos are used by outdoors enthusiasts as temporary shelters. Skillfully constructed out of insulating, compressed snow, the icy accommodations keep dwellers warm by blocking harsh winds and housing a small fire.

Today, igloos—which are deeply connected to Inuit history and culture—can be found in Baffin Island, Canada, and other snowy, North American locations.
