“I Have No Idea What I’m Doing” Dog Given a Heartfelt Goodbye by Her Loving Human

“This is the picture that went viral as the I have no idea what I’m doing meme and influenced me to take more pictures of her.”

You might not know Golden Bailey by name, but there’s a good chance you’ve seen one of her funny dog memes. The Golden Retriever is responsible for a number of wacky photos, one which had her “typing” on a computer and another of her wearing a camo hat and sitting with a jar of peanut butter. Known as the “I have no idea what I’m doing” and the “Redneck Retriever” memes, respectively, these costumed photos have delighted countless people around the globe.

In a heartfelt picture series on Imgur, Bailey’s human—who posted via the name goldenretrieverbailey—made an announcement that sadly, the beloved dog had passed away in early 2016. “She may have been semi-famous,” he writes, “but she was also our dog and a part of our family, which is why we took our time to let her fans know.” He then proceeded to share 100 pictures of Bailey, from the time she was a tiny puppy to when he and his roommates first discovered she liked to pose for photos.

The playful images—of Bailey “making” sausages or “operating” heavy machinery—never stopped throughout the course of her life. Now, they serve as a unique memory of the sweet pup. “We will always miss her,” her human says, “but we hope that she lives on through her pictures and continues to bring people joy and laughter.”

View all of Golden Bailey’s story on Imgur, and check out some of our favorites below, along with original captions by Bailey’s human.

“We started to notice at this point that Bailey understood what we were doing and she would pose for the pictures. She is essentially just very very good at staying, for treats of course. She had as much fun with it as we did!”

“Bailey was a great snuggler and loved to be held.”

“The poker picture was a little ambitious, but it turned out as well as we could have hoped. We set the table and posed her in all four positions taking multiple pictures at each spot. We had the camera mounted on top of a ladder to see all four positions. She is holding the cigar with the help of a rubber band. The only Photoshop is putting the four final pictures together.”

Kodak Announces ‘KODAKCoin’ as Cryptocurrency Specifically for Photographers

Kodak is stepping into the world of cryptocurrency and the market likes what it sees. The company recently announced that it’s joining forces with Wenn Digital to launch its own bespoke cryptocurrency called KODAKCoin. Using blockchain technology, KODAKCoin will not only help photographers get paid more efficiently, but aid in blocking copyright infringement.

Aimed both at individual photographers as well as agencies, KODAKOne is now a distribution platform that will “make it significantly cheaper and faster to register, move and sell digital images.” KODAKCoin will be used as the virtual currency on the platform, allowing photographers to be paid instantly for their work using the secure system. And what’s more, photographers can register old and new images, track usage of their photographs, and take advantage of post-licensing image enforcement.

KODAKOne will be constantly searching the web to seek out possible infringement and then assist photographers in recouping expenses in these instances. It’s an innovative way to take advantage of the security that blockchain technology offers—which is highly secure and difficult to alter—and marry that with the growing problem photographers have of keeping control over their work in the digital era.

“For many in the tech industry, ‘blockchain’ and ‘cryptocurrency’ are hot buzzwords, but for photographers who’ve long struggled to assert control over their work and how it’s used, these buzzwords are the keys to solving what felt like an unsolvable problem,” Kodak CEO Jeff Clarke states. “Kodak has always sought to democratize photography and make licensing fair to artists. These technologies give the photography community an innovative and easy way to do just that.”

If the stock market is any indication, the public is already reacting positively to the new currency. According to Bloomberg, shares surged 119% to $6.80  at the New York Stock Exchange the afternoon of the announcement, which are huge gains for the company, which has seen their stock fall 70% over the last year.

KODAKCoin will launch their initial coin offering on January 31, 2018.

Trump to Undocumented Teens: Give Birth or Get Out

At the core of the anti-abortion movement is the tenet that a fetus is a person whose rights need to be protected. The Trump administration is taking this argument to an absurd and cruel extreme. A fetus in the United States requires the full protection and support of American law. As for its undocumented, adolescent mother—well, if she wants her rights, she should leave the country.

The B&N Podcast: Kelly Corrigan

Every author has a story beyond the one that they put down on paper. The Barnes & Noble Podcast goes between the lines with today’s most interesting writers, exploring what inspires them, what confounds them, and what they were thinking when they wrote the books we’re talking about.

The bestselling memoirist Kelly Corrigan joins us in this episode to talk about Tell Me More, her thought-provoking new book, built around twelve brief phrases – like “I Was Wrong” or “It’s Like This” – that provide the essential lexicon for meaningful communication in our lives. It’s a meditation on life and meaning told through stories – funny, revealing, and in places raw with emotion – unfolded in a voice like that of a friend, sitting across from you at a table, telling you about her day in a way that invites you to talk about your own.

It’s a crazy idea: trying to name the phrases that make love and connection possible. But that’s just what Kelly Corrigan has set out to do here. In her New York Times bestselling memoirs, Corrigan distilled our core relationships to their essences, showcasing a warm, easy storytelling style. Now, in Tell Me More, she’s back with a deeply personal, unfailingly honest, and often hilarious examination of the essential phrases that turn the wheel of life.

In “I Don’t Know,” Corrigan wrestles to make peace with uncertainty, whether it’s over invitations that never came or a friend’s agonizing infertility. In “No,” she admires her mother’s ability to set boundaries and her liberating willingness to be unpopular. In “Tell Me More,” a facialist named Tish teaches her something important about listening. And in “I Was Wrong,” she comes clean about her disastrous role in a family fight—and explains why saying sorry may not be enough. With refreshing candor, a deep well of empathy, and her signature desire to understand “the thing behind the thing,” Corrigan swings between meditations on life with a preoccupied husband and two mercurial teenage daughters to profound observations on love and loss.

With the streetwise, ever-relatable voice that defines Corrigan’s work, Tell Me More is a moving and meaningful take on the power of the right words at the right moment to change everything.

Newlyweds Are Having Sweet Post-Wedding Photos Taken with Their Favorite Felines

Cats in Wedding Photoshoot Ideas

When it comes to weddings, there are many ways for a couple to personalize their special day. One approach is to feature their beloved four-legged friends in the pictures. While dogs are common, there are plenty of cat lovers who wish that they could have their favorite feline in their wedding photos. Photographer Marianna Zampieri is making this happen for lucky couples in Italy; she snaps portraits of newlyweds with their cats, incorporating formal attire with fur and whiskers.

“The idea of creating post-wedding photoshoots with cats came to me when, in April of last year, I got married,” Zampieri tells My Modern Met. She and her partner had a “very intimate ceremony,” sans photographer. They arranged a series of self-portraits instead. “I would not have endured the idea that in the pictures of the most important day of my life there was not Arthur, my beloved cat,” she recalls. “So I took a series of photos with him to capture that moment as self-portraits.”

Zampieri’s wedding photoshoot ideas have caught on with her friends. One couple wanted to incorporate their three cats in their big day, but they knew it would be too difficult for the creatures; Zampieri explains, “too much emotion, too much confusion and too many people present for animals so habitual.” So a week post-wedding, she traveled to her friends’ home and photographed them—dressed in their same attire—with their three kitties. A feline’s temperament can be unpredictable, but during Zampieri’s session, each cat was on its best behavior. “In particular, Perla, the beautiful white cat, had a lot of fun with the various layers of tulle of the wedding dress, so that we found it always lying on the long train!”

If you’re looking for cat-themed wedding photo ideas, look no further than photographer Marianna Zampieri.

Memories of Mississippi

I had done it. Deep in the South I had reached one of the towns central to an uprising that would sweep away legal segregation, bring the vote to black people in the thirteen states that had made up the Confederacy, and overthrow the system of racial oppression called Jim Crow that had been re-imposed in those states after the Civil War. Over my shoulder was a Nikon F reflex. “You got a camera,” James Forman—then SNCC’s executive secretary—said to me when we met at the Freedom House. “Go into the courthouse. They got a big water cooler for whites and a little bitty bowel for negroes. Go take a picture of that.”

How to Get Over A Bad Day

It starts with spilling your coffee, then you lock your keys in the car, and now you are late for work. It’s not even 9 a.m. and you have already told yourself that you are having a bad day. At this point, it would almost take a miracle for you to see this day any other way.

Sound familiar?

The negative thought pattern that gets created when a few things go wrong can blister into a long-term, self-fulfilling prophecy if you aren’t careful. It can be very difficult to break that cycle. Left unbroken, it can leave you feeling depressed and overwhelmingly unhappy for days.

So, how to get over a bad day?

Recognize the Thoughts

It’s easy to take a series of unfortunate events as signs of a bad day. And once you give in to that thought, you have effectively taken away any alternative and your day will surely be bad.

It can take some work, but try making a conscious effort to recognize the tone of your thoughts. Are you thinking in negative terms?

There are physical cues that can go along with this as well. For a minute, consider what your body is doing.

Are your shoulders tensed? Are your brows furrowed? Is your jaw clenched?

These are all physical manifestations of the tension that negativity breeds. If you recognize these signs, stop yourself and force those muscles to relax. You will feel an immediate difference.

Consider Your Feelings

consider your feelings

Negative thoughts trigger negative emotions. Anger, frustration, irritation, anxiety, and sadness can consume you when you are thinking negatively. Those feelings have a way of pushing happiness and satisfaction to the back-burner, leaving you an anxious, angry wreck.

Ask yourself what you are feeling.

Identifying your emotions gives you control over them rather than letting them have control over you. Once you have identified what you are feeling, you can start taking actions.

Identify Your Behavior

If you have already decided you are having a bad day, then you are likely to be anticipating all the other things that could go wrong.

How can this affect your behavior?

Quite possibly, you’ll be walking in an aggressive manner, responding defensively to those around you, and becoming inordinately irritated with everything you encounter. If ever you find yourself behaving in such way, stop.

Take a deep breath and recognize your thoughts. Think about your feelings and make an effort to change them. For sure, your behavior will follow.

Even just forcing a smile and saying something nice to someone can have positive effects. Purposefully changing your approach to those around you and making a direct effort to be positive can reverse your negative thinking and cycle. Additionally, acts of kindness toward others can release endorphins, which can help you regain a positive outlook.

Reset

Take a deep breath and give yourself a do-over. Get a fresh cup of coffee or tea and find the positive things in your environment. Smile even if no one is looking and move forward. If you need to, remind yourself that a couple of bad moments do not make up a day. By letting them color your entire day or week, you have given them too much power.

When All Else Fails, Talk

talk to someone

Sometimes we just need to vent. If you are having a hard time putting yourself back into a positive space, try talking to someone. A friend or a family member that you trust will likely understand how you are feeling.

Bad days happen to all of us. They are fairly normal experiences for most people. The problem is that many of us get sucked into a negative way of thinking, which can be hard to escape from. Following the suggestions above can help you avoid getting stuck in that depressive cycle.

Are You Sending The Right Message?

Our appearance says a lot about us, whether we like it or not. There’s more to it than just having a great face. How we appear to others is a reflection of our energy, goals, and intentions.

So, the question is this:

Is your appearance sending the right message?

Our Face Value

face value

Humans are expressive and emotional creatures. We communicate through words and emotions.

Our words may hide our true feelings, but it’s nearly impossible for facial expressions to do the same. Our eyes, cheeks, mouth, brow bones, and even our ears can send signals to other people about what we are really thinking and feeling.

  • Micro expressions are a key part of human interaction and communication. We pick up on others’ facial cues instinctively.
  • The tone of our voice and our body language can be key indicators of our character before we even open our mouth.
  • True respect is earned, but politeness is required.

Because of this unique and nuanced way of communication, we developed the habit of making snap judgments about other people’s character just based on their faces.

  • Remember that the people you interact with will spend much more time looking at your face than looking at your clothes.
  • Your fashion style can be just as important as your facial features, so find a style and grooming routine that will make you feel comfortable and confident.
  • Don’t forget to take care of your skin, particularly your face.

It’s not about appearing great, so make sure to focus on appearing confident and healthy.

Personal Branding

People can pick first impressions before we even know it. Whether it’s a job interview or a passing glance on the street, we can leave lasting impressions on people and not even realize it.

While it’s unreasonable to be primped and perfect at all times, good impressions can be made even on our worst days. Here’s how:

  • Don’t be afraid to speak in a clear, strong voice.
  • Present yourself as you’d like to be remembered.
  • And bonus – don’t overdo your hair.

Today, a lot of first impressions happen before two people even meet. Thanks to the internet, social media sites, and our collective lack of interest in privacy settings, it’s likely that the people you haven’t even met have a good idea of what kind of person you are.

  • A tasteful profile picture online goes a long way, especially on professional networking sites like LinkedIn.
  • Key aspects of anonymity online are melting away, so be careful what you post and where you post it.
  • Curating your social media accounts to fit your interests is a good first step to working on a personal brand.

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind for our online lives is to not post anything we wouldn’t want our boss to see.

Good Impressions Start From Within

how-to-make-a-good-impression

With all of those things, please remember that beauty is only skin deep. No matter how much we groom ourselves, no amount of skincare products can disguise low self-esteem or a bad attitude. Being personable, kind, and mindful of others can get you much further than having a smooth face and great clothes.

  • Trends come and go. To make a positive impression try to adopt a timeless style.
  • Anyone can have a beautiful smile if it’s sincere. Having good teeth isn’t required to brighten someone’s day with a grin.
  • Having compassion for ourselves and our own mistakes can help us be more compassionate to others.
