Night Rumble by PedroQuintela1

My today´s image is a tribute to Jules Verne. When I was shooting this self-portrait during the night, I felt like a character in his fantasy books. For many of us who had the luck to grow-up in the non internet era, books were a source of enlightenment.

This single exposure was real heartache to edit because I only have LR. It was made during a fantastic evening up in the mountain of Monsanto, within it´s characteristic bowler area. When I saw the angle I knew it had to be done. With the help of my buddie Guilherme we managed to keep me in frame and had the Milky Way as well. It was a great challenge, because i wanted to have my headlamp connected to gave me that “explorer” look.

And funny things happened as well, because when you´re up there in the middle of the night, a simple breeze on the vegetation or the camera strap hitting the backpack seems like someone or something is there. And since we where not very far from an abandoned 12 th century church with a lot of graves engraved on the floor outside well it was… creepy.

As always I send you my best wishes and thanks for all the support I receive. Happy shooting!

Marshall Point Starry Night by edwardreese

This a view of the night sky from behind the Marshall Point lighthouse in Maine.

It’s a three shot panorama from left to right, with a blending of exposures to keep the brightness of the head light from blowing out the milky way.

Have to say this is the most challenging type of photography I’ve gotten into so far. Have to be really careful of light sources and noise processing.

Still have a lot to learn.

Tree of Happiness by AaronGroen

For several days now I have been struggling to come up with a title for this image. Then an hour ago we got the news that our baby girls will be coming home next week. I am overwhelmed with happiness right now.

Taken in eastern South Dakota April 22 2015 4am, 10 shot panorama, Canon EOS 6D and Canon EF 16–35mm lens, 20 second exposures f/2.8 6400iso.

Per Aspera ad Astra by lightpix

Milky Way bow over hiker on Faltegartenkoepfl Tyrol, Austria.
I named the pic “Per Aspera ad Astra”‬ (through hardships to the stars) for I haven’t experienced a comparable cold bivouac the whole winter (and yes, we´ve had a few this winter season ). Pretty weird that the coldest one in winter season 2014/15 had been the first bivouac in spring. The whole equipment had been covered with frost within minutes. If I hadn´t used a “Lensheater” I would´t have been able to realize a single 30 sec shot without frost on the front lens. After one hour of shooting even my clothes had been covered with frost and after 3 hours I had to get in my expedition down sleeping bag for my toes had been completely numb. At least I have been able to realize two shots I had been thinking of for months. Only in spring the milky way has the perfect alignment for the “bow” over the hiker. In the light polluted valley you can see my home 1500m below. During my toes were coming back to “life” tinglingly and stingingly, my second camera had been shooting a timelapse sequence for the rest of the night.

Nocturne by jessesummers

I really like iconic lone trees, and this is no exception. Before leaving Wanaka for good I wanted to capture this tree correctly. Tree at 19mm and milky way at 16mm with the camera rotated about 30 degrees (to minimize wide angle induced warp). The colors are very hard to get right at this location, hopefully this turned out naturally enough. Available for your home here: http://ift.tt/1ylfOw3
