In southern New Mexico, Dripping Springs Natural Area not only…

In southern New Mexico, Dripping Springs Natural Area not only has stunning natural beauty, it also tells the story of the western frontier. Homesteaders settled here along stagecoach routes, later the springs supported a resort during the time of Billy the Kid and it served as a sanatorium before it was eventually abandoned. Now the area is managed by @mypubliclands and is known for hiking through desert scrub, lovely low elevation woodlands and excellent wildlife viewing. Photo by Ria Cabral (http://ift.tt/18oFfjl).

Wispy clouds and a star-filled night sky make for a dreamy…

Wispy clouds and a star-filled night sky make for a dreamy backdrop to Owachomo Bridge at Natural Bridges #NationalMonument in #Utah. Home to some of the darkest skies in the country, #NaturalBridges is a stargazer’s paradise and was designated the world’s first International Dark Sky Park. On a given night, it’s possible to see up to 15,000 stars! Photo by Ryan McGinley (http://ift.tt/18oFfjl).

Pastel pinks and turquoise paint the sky above two of the three rocks found at Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, offering 15 acres of wildness and mystery in Oregon. Designated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907, Three Arch Rocks is the first Pacific Coast refuge and the oldest refuge west of the Mississippi River. North Cascades National Park in Washington is home to animals…

North Cascades National Park in Washington is home to animals with fins, fur, feathers and scales; but the higher you go, the fewer animals you see. Up in this dramatic and beautiful environment, the mountain goat rules. Thanks to their specialized hooves and body shape, they can easily travel over the cliffs and mountains where few predators will follow. Photo by Andy Porter (http://ift.tt/18oFfjl).

Sunlight plays amazing tricks at Yosemite National Park, illuminating the park’s towering granite rock formations and making them appear on fire. This pic shows El Capitan on a stormy day, glowing in sunset’s sweet light. Photo by Christine White Loberg, National Park Service.

Here’s another new image – a telephoto view of Mount Whitney, California during a stormy sunrise. Whitney is the tallest peak in the lower 48 states, at 14,505 feet.

The Forest’s Awakening – 森の覚醒 by EliaLocardi

There’s nothing better than spending a morning all alone in the Sagano Bamboo Forest near Kyoto, listening to the soft rustling sounds of tall stalks and leaves as the sway gently in the breeze. On a clear morning, the light shines brilliantly though the tangle of beautiful green, making the forest seem as though it’s illuminated from within. It’s a truly extraordinary place to be.

Nocturne of Shadow by alexnoriega

Twilight falls on the curvaceous sand dunes of Death Valley, California.

I’ve been wanting to get back here to make images like this since my last (completely unproductive) visit three or four years ago. My month-long trip is nearing its end, and I’ve got many new images coming, but this may end up being my favorite. I’ve had mostly zero skies to speak of on the southwestern leg of my autumn travels, but that’s actually advantageous for images like this. It helps not to be distracted by an explosive sky and tempted to put on a wide-angle lens, when focusing on more intimate telephoto compositions. The light on these dunes is simply magical when the sun is low on the horizon.

If you like the look of my images, you may be interested in knowing I teach my processing workflow and techniques online via Skype! By popular demand, I’m also offering pre-recorded videos on a preliminary basis, since I’m on the road. Though they’re not finished products with proper video production (I plan on beginning to release those this winter), these videos have all the information on my most important techniques, and they come at a discount as opposed to a personalized session on Skype. I also offer private workshops, and I’ve got a bigger tour for 2015 announced already. You can find more information or contact me at my website: http://ift.tt/YdCotQ
