The Forest’s Awakening – 森の覚醒 by EliaLocardi

There’s nothing better than spending a morning all alone in the Sagano Bamboo Forest near Kyoto, listening to the soft rustling sounds of tall stalks and leaves as the sway gently in the breeze. On a clear morning, the light shines brilliantly though the tangle of beautiful green, making the forest seem as though it’s illuminated from within. It’s a truly extraordinary place to be.

Himalayan Melt by pjvanschalkwyk1985

While staying in the village of Namrung along the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal, I decided to go explore along the Buddhi Gandaki river in the early morning. I only had limited time, since we had to start our trek to the next village at around 08:00 AM , but I was lucky to find this composition in a rush. The color of the water up here is so vibrant, and seeing it while the sun was hitting the mountains in the distance was an awesome sight. Reports of the recent earthquake damage is slowly pouring in from this remote area. The people along the Manaslu and Tsum valleys are dealing with unknown death tolls, landslides and face hunger with limited clean water. Please help Nepal by donating to a reputable relief organisation when you have the chance. The damage and pain these people are facing is truly incomprehensible.

Bagan by ApisakKanjanapusit

Bagan (Burmese: ပုဂံ; MLCTS: pu.gam, IPA: [bəɡàɴ]; formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom’s height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Beauty Through Order by MarselvanOosten

Wishing you all a happy 2015. May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions 😉

And if this morning is any indication for the rest of the year, I’d say: bring it on! I got an email from Nature’s Best telling me that my image ‘Red Crowned Cranes’ won a Highly Honored in the Birds (those who know me will appreciate the irony) category of the competition. It was shot last year on our White & Wild Japan photo tour. Only 110 images were selected from over 20,000 entries, so I’m honored to be part of the happy few again.
The winning images will be displayed in the annual exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. opening in Fall 2015.

The 2015 trip is already fully booked, but there are still some spaces available on the 2016 trips.
